For those of you who knew him, his in game personas were Jake Colvit and John Colvit, a pilot in The Drift. alliance.

As I understand, he was killed by an I.E.D. in Afghanistan early Thursday morning. Just 3 days before, he was piloting his Thanatos in Derelik, engaging reds and neuts with pride.

I didn't know him long, certainly not as long as others have, but I can tell you he was a caring pilot. He would be on day and night, ready to defend a POS under attack, or to help a fellow member with fitting or tactics. He was especially known for throwing his own ISK and assets on the line when friendlies were under fire.

A brief quote from the head diplo/director of The Drift., Doxana:
Quote:
My deepest condolences go out the the family and loved ones who have suffered this great loss. It is always a hard situation to lose ones family member so early in his life..

My condolences to his family, especially his brother, who also plays the game as I understand.

You will be missed Jake.

Thank you for the kind words and salutes.. and also thank you for ignoring the trolls.

CCP: Appreciate the move and the swift moderation of flamers.

Whilst everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Jake was a valiant soldier and a great pilot to fly with. It's unfortunate that he, and by the same logic, anyone, loses their life at such a young age.

He will be missed in the real world, and in our world, ever so dearly.

His commanding officer described him as "the toughest of men and the gentlest of friends".

Lt Col Nick Kitson, commanding officer of 3 Rifles Battle Group, added: "Naturally charming and disarmingly polite, he was considerate and compassionate to his core.

"Uncompromisingly assiduous at work, he was an inspiration to all and a mentor to those he led in training and on the field of battle."

I salute thee, o great defender of peace; may you rest in peace
