ok, I'm going to get killed for saying this.. but... What if ECM only shut down weapons (and remote rep?) and drone control? So you could still use webs/scrams/damps/ecm?

This plus a needed boost to ECCM and a change to target painter mechanics and maybe we've got a hit?

Or am I about to get murdered for suggesting such a thing Shocked

I would suggest something abit differnet. A drone-type launched like a drone from drone bay (forcing player to sacrifice drones/dps) that will block ECM for a short while. as in a last dich getaway. It would be larger than a Heavy drone in m3 and costly. but would stop that perma-jam B.S. that is no fun just to watch.

I actually think this is a pretty good idea, have some drones orbit you and boost your sensor strength. They would be self-target only, and can just orbit you to boost your ship. This way you're sacrificing drone space for ECCM.

and your right, drones should not effected, you can already shoot them down, it wouldn't be fair to shut them down too.

If ECM only shut down weapons then it could then have it's range increased back to normal. Hell the cycles could last longer as it would no longer break lock, another 10-15 seconds should be added back on. Then it's like you have a free damp included with your ECM.

Also, maybe ecm could have scripts?
One meant to shut down weapons and the other shuts down webs,damps,ect?

Maybe even an ECM script that shuts down tanking mods? Shocked

Your idea is interesting, but I think ECM is fine as it is right now.
The problem is the pathetic weakness of ECCM and Dampeners.
Both are supposed to be excellent at dealing with ECM and they're not.

ECM is wonderful 'cos it isn't shut down weapons - under ECM you couldn't lock that guy.

Well, TD already does this, no? Albeit not on missiles.

Since both weapons and ewar mods is relying on a target lock by the sensor, I fail to see how ECM would only disable weapons.

ECM in its current form works well enough. After teh ship changes Falcons are no longer teh cause of whine, and is less common in game as well.

Its still pretty damn good, but for a paper ship with no wepons, its not hard to take down with some creative tactics.

Part of ECM is also to get out of situations where you are tackled. Removing this capability makes the entire Caldari ECM line mostly a pure support role. You can ECM all you want, but a target is tanking you and keeping you pinned down, so that he can bring on the blob. Why then would I fly a Rook and not make the jump to a Curse? :) A Curse can shut of 50% of teh weapon in game, EWAR, speed mods, and tank as well, and in addition it can TD the projectiles if it really wants.

Continuing to bash ECM will only make the whole ECM line obsolete. And for a race that has a dedicated T1 BS for EWAR, I think ECM should be strong. Its a Caldari strenght after all.

Now, some new ideas for ECM, or other cahnges could mkae ECM more interesting, but the idea in this thread I find not good at all :).

Drones should be left alone, they have their own individual targetting systems that are separate from the ship.
I do like the idea, but a huge reason for many to bring ECM or ECM drones is to kill their Scram/Web they may have.
Especially solo, being able to GTFO when the blob hits the fan is a major reason to bring ECM drones.

The disruption on the weapons this new ECM would have to bring would have be quite good to compare against Tracking Disruptor.
Two TDs on my Pilgrim can make any Turret BS a floating hunk of metal that couldn't hit the broad side of a Titan.

Why not modify the ECM slightly more towards missiles, ECM is Caldari based so it may make some sense they would be good against technology the Caldari know very well (missiles).
You could state the ECM would jam/disrupt/scramble the tiny targetting systems the missiles have.
It wouldn't disrupt all of them or maybe just partially (causing them to miss and having to circle around again if they have the fuel time for it) but it could take a missile boat out of the fight.

It would still work against other weapons, but disrupting turrets should remain the domain of Tracking Disruptors.
FoF missiles could be changed to be far more resistant to ECM jamming but remaining targetted, fixing that weapon system altogether.

Another potential use for such a new ECM system is to fight neuts, to which currently (being a Pilgrim pilot) there are very few defenses. Again, one could state the ECM disrupts the Neutralizers systems, causing it drain a lot less cap then it normally would.

Personally, I feel the chance based system of the ECM should go.
It forces the ECM to be extremely powerful for when it does get a hit, and since sensor strength is only high on BCs and BSs with ECCM, it's kind of a skewed balance.
