If you spend 1 minute reading the forum other than trolling here, you'll find a myrad of ways how to defend against ninja salvagers, including how ninja salvagers operate, how not to get probed down, how to salvage faster than the ninja, how to protect your mission item, and so on so forth.
You sir, are an idiot and troll. |

Mission in low sec and then you can shoot salvagers to your heart's content. Oh wait, people like you are so averse to risk that would be unacceptable. In Eve, you rarely get to have your cake and eat it. Accept it. |

The problem I see with ninja-salvaging is this:
As it stands, level 4 missions in highsec just pay too damn much for too little isk. If you know what you're doing you'll make more money in highsec than nullsec because the virtually 0 risk involved means you can spend a lot more isk on getting a ship that mows down the rats quicker. THAT needs fixing first, before you can really complain about ninja-salvagers as they are now.
HOWEVER, this does not make ninja-salvaging any less screwy in concept. It's arguably the least risky profession in eve as it's done in a t1 frigate in highsec, and it can easily pay out as well as a level 4 if done right.
SO, IMO CCP needs to fix low/nullsec isk making (which they may well be doing come dominion), and then once lvl 4s have been placed a bit more inline with other isk making activities in terms of risk/reward ratios, THEN look at ninja-salvaging.
On a side note: The ninja-salvagers who rush in to defend their profession always make me giggle. Are they really that afraid of losing the occasional frigate? And ninja salvaging WILL eventually be nerfed, for the same reason that nanos got nerfed, and then for the same reason falcons got nerfed; regardless of CCPs stance on it now, if enough people complain, it will get changed. |

Edited by: Garr Anders on 02/11/2009 13:10:29We get these threads about once a week ;). As it has been discussed more than enough, here my proposal to "fix" it: In the Assembly Hall: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1207847 Originally by: Garr Anders [Proposal] Scan-able wrecks and containers/strengthen the salvager profession
Proposal:
- Make wrecks and containers scan-able with scan probes.
Motivation:
- This would strengthen the salvager as independent profession and would allow them to scan for the wrecks that are left behind by mission runners, rather than the need to scan for the active mission runner in his mission.
- This would ease on the relation ship between mission runners and salvagers as the salvager does not need to salvage the wrecks under the eyes of an active mission runner, especially since the mission runners still think that salvage belongs to them, which is not the case as stated by CCP several times.
- It would also relieve the database from maintaining left behind wrecks for the full two hours and could works as player driven "database cleaning" of objects.
p.s. * It is not "ninja" as you do it all out in front of the mission runner, it would be if the mission runner would not see/notice the salvager. * It is not stealing as the "salvage" is not your as stated/linked by CCP Prism X |

The difference is that it's competitive, so while the risk in terms of ship loss might be even lower than for the MRs (which in and of itself is a spectacular feat), the risk in terms of not getting anything for your time and effort is far higher. |

So, if I blow up an empty wreck in hi-sec that does not belong to me I will not be concorded? |

CCP Mitnal: “Our policy on this is extremely clear… Salvaging is a mini-profession within EVE and does not constitute stealing.”
GM Faolchu: “This is an intended game mechanic and is in no way an exploit.”
Senior GM Ytterbium: “Players are still completely free to salvage other pilot wrecks at will … and doing so is not considered as an exploit.”
Software Engineer CCP Prism X: “Before the salvage enters those containers [your cargo-hold / hangar] it is not considered your stuff by the server code. Hence it’s not stealing.”

It should be possible to steal mission-runners' ships as well as their loot.
