I am just getting started in EVE and since I am in sales in RL, I thought about trying to duplicate that in the game. What I was considering doing was working on Tech II and Tech III production and sales.

I'd be curious to know what yall think would be the best path to take for this endeavor. From skills needed, to optimal ordering of the training. Should I mine minerals myself, or purchase them off of the market? Are there specific areas that I should target (i.e. is simply saying Tech II and III to broad)? Should I specialize in a certain type of component?

Thank you for the time.

Yeah a bit broad.

Pick a T2 item from the market you think you could make money off of. Then research how to invent that item. There is far too much information involved for someone to relay that to you in a simple post like this. It is out there, but start with learning how to do invention first.

Although, if you just want to get involved in sales, you can save yourself a lot of time and effort and do T1 or material selling. You can do your own producing too. People can make quite a bit from the trade system if you get into it and while the margins on some T1 items might be small, the volumes are a bit higher so you could do well with the right items.

If you're just getting started, you're looking at many months of skills training before you'll be a competitive T2/T3 Producer, and it will take a lot of capital for you to set up for it properly, so, while those are nice long term goals, you're probably going to need to start smaller to have something to do for your first year or so in the game.

If you're only going to have one account, and one main character, be very VERY sure that you want to do trade and industry instead of combat (PvP). Beyond a certain point in the game everything is negotiated at gunpoint, and if you can't fight, it can be very limiting.

If you aren't absolutely certain that you don't want to PvP (ever) my strong suggestion to you would be to forget about mining and trade early in your career, and train combat skills while you farm high-sec agent missions to build up your wallet. You can always get into industry and trade with an alt (alternative character) later on.

Thanks for the info thus far. I'll take those into consideration.

Question - I was looking through skills in EVEMon and noticed the following skills:

Sleeper Technology
Yan Tung Technology
Talocan Technology
Takmahl Technology

Are those currently used for anything?

They're used to manufacture blueprints acquired from COSMOS mission rewards.

Look at the bill of materials for invention on a t1 item and for production on a t2 BP, train those skills.

If you're new, you're still quite a while away from t3 production, so think about that later.
