So here's the deal, I'm a student in an extremely difficult major and I haven't been able to really log in and play for almost a month or more now. I probably wont be able to put significant time in until December. So here's my request, I've been playing for about 4 months now and have built up a pretty nice mining setup. But I've been jiving for some PvP and higher level mission running. What skill tree, or final skill goal is a good area to aim for, seeing as I'm not new to the game, just new to the PvP mechanics of the game.

I'll also probably be doing much the same thing in the spring semester, 4 months of skill training with minimal play time so the recommendations don't have to fall into a short period of time, just a general vector that I can read up on a little more and start looking into.

Keep in mind that I'm basically an idiot when it comes to this stuff, minimal PvP, basic mission running, tons and tons of mining. But if you recommend a skill set I can definitely read up on it myself so you don't have to baby me, it's just that obvious skills might not be so obvious.

Side note: All learning skills with the exception of Presence trained to 4.

Wow! I'm in almost the exact same boat and have been wondering these things too.

T2 Cruiser guns, Cruiser V, basic Learnings V are all good skills to train when your not sure what to do.

If you truly will not be playing, and especially if you aren't sure what you want to do when you come back, train the Learning skills. All of them. Level 5. I normally wouldn't recommend this. I myself try to get one to level 5 every month or two, but if you're not going to be playing, you'll really like it when you come back.

Otherwise, any really long Level 5s. For example:

<Race of your choice> Cruiser Lvl 5
Battlecruisers lvl 5
<Race of your choice> Battleship Lvl 5
Advanced Weapons Upgrades Lvl 5
And, as mentioned, train for T2 guns/missiles.
If you prefer mining, Astrogeology Lvl 5 and Mining Barge Lvl 5

Ship of choice to level 5 is always a good idea, especially if it's a pre-requisite for something (T2 or otherwise) that you want to train later. Ship skills to level 5 are also good for some ship classes - recons for example - where skill-related fitting bonuses mean you can't get a decent setup on the ship at lower skill levels.

I'd second the idea of AWU to level 5, along with any other fitting-related skills that you haven't already got. Some ships are just plain awkward to fit, and there are some nice setups that are impossible to squeeze on unless you have all the relevant fitting skills to a high level (and/or some power grid or CPU implants).

I spent a few months abroad a few years back and could really only log on once every few weeks or so. I ended up doing two Cruiser Vs and don't really regret it.

BCV would have been a better investment. AWU V could have been a really, really good idea that didn't occur to me at the time.

Prior to going, though, I trained Research Project Management V and made sure I had six agents running (even if one was only a puny L3). Never looked back at that one with regret. It isn't the hugest money-maker in the world but it does help fund you when you do come back and start playing. And if you don't, there's at least a really viable character to sell or give away to a friend. Actively running L4s will make much more ISK but you don't even have to log on to get daily RP. Just make sure the account stays active.

Thanks to everyone who threw their two cents in, I'll definitely be reading up on a few of these things over the next week or so.

Current Learning skills:
Learning is 5, Focus is being trained to 4 currently, Presence 0, all the rest are 4.

Mining skills:
Industry 5, Mining 5, Pyrox 4, Refining 5, Scord 4, Veld 5
Trained all the way to hulk

So I'm thinking either I'll finish training some of the mining skills I'm missing, or I'll start training to fly the orca for support. My other option is really working on some of the Cruiser or battle ship skills with the advanced weapons upgrades. Thanks for the input guys, that definitely gives me some good options to look into.

Just pick whatever high rank skill that you think you might like to have at level 5 and train that.

I'd second training Learning skills to 5 so when you come back and have a better idea of what you want, it'll be faster for you to train other things.

On another note, if you happen to have an iPhone, get this awesome (and free) app called "Capsuleer". It lets you check up on your skill queue and also you can get a push notification when a skill is done training (or when it drops below 24 hours I think?). The only thing is that it'll still ring at 3am when that happens :(. Capsuleer also has other awesome features (see your skills, all possible skills, your isk balance, read CCP releases and blogs).
