Depending on the mission you can solo a level 5 in a Nighthawk, bear in mind that you will have to contend with a lot Neuts. But your basic fit will consist of a full rack of shield power relays, 3 passive amplifiers, the remaining slots will have LSE and/or heavy launchers, and don't forget your purgers.

To be more in depth, expect the need to tank an excess of 2k dps in most level 5s, high compensation skills with Pithum A-Type amps will make the difference in solo vs duo level 5s. More importantly study your mission reports and know your triggers and primary threats. With compensation 5s and Pithum A-Type it makes soloing 5s much easier and your Nighthawk tank can exceed 3k dps vs serpentis/gurista mission so you can afford to use ballistic controls to speed up your mission time.

The most difficult of 5s that i've done are angel missions, mostly because of the wide spread of damage types mixxed with neuts, target painters in there do a noticeable rise of damage intake when active. These you may/will need several warp outs before you stabilize. Good luck with your 5s.

Preferred this to a Nighthawk for soloing Level 5s -

Salvager I
Small Tractor Beam I

Medium Core Defence Field Purger I
Medium Core Defence Field Purger I

Ogre II x5
Hobgoblin II x 5
Hammerhead II x 5
etc...

Using Gistum A-types because of less CPU reqs. Uses no cap at all unless you want to use the salvager, so is immune to neuts. The ACs and Hobgobs can take out the little frigs quickly enough, and once they are out of the way then it is simply a case of releasing the hounds (i.e. Ogre IIs)...

With this setup I can tank 2300+ DPs and it does around 550 with Ogre IIs.

If you really want to use a Nighthawk -

Hobgoblin II x5

Tanks 2700+, but does the pitiful amount of 200dps or so... Has a larger sig than the Ishtar too 367 compared to 214. Does use the Pithum A-type amps though... Again is immune to neuts... You may not be able to break the tank of some of the tougher BSs with it though (or it may just take a long time)...

Personally I prefer the Ishtar, as is more agile, much better DPS, lower sig, and the difference in tank is minimal if you follow the various mission guides. And once you get to a point of manageable full agro you can effectively AFK a level 5.

I use a similar setup to solo L5, with the only exception being a drone link augmentor in stead of the tractor beam so my drones can nibble a some of the ships that tend to orbit a bit further away. I'm salvaging with another ship afterwards.
Also some L5 don't have that high incoming dps, but have more EWAR. Experience has learned me that it's possible to switch a SPR for a BCU in those missions, to speed it up. But you will have to find out for yourself in which missions you can get away with this.

Agree about the Drone link on a nighthawk, haven't flown it for a while as using Ishtar now for Level 5s. Fit was based on last one I did in it, 'Honor' I think, the Guristas one... The Guristas ones are a pain for EWAR... Another reason for me switching to an Ishtar :)

The Missions without Neuts can be done in a Cerb/Vaga as you can speed tank much of the incoming DPS, this is actually good fun as long as you kill the webbers ASAP.

I'm also learning through lvl5s in NH. Ran Deadly Serious against Gallente last night. Took probably 2.5 hours start to finish, with several warpouts to adjust the tank (and that's with second ship salvaging)

I've started with 5xSPR, 3xAmp, 2xLSE. But that did not work out too well (22 BSes showed up way too quick), so I had to bump up the tank to
3xSPR, 2xPDS, 4xHards, 1xLSE. That produced a stable enough tank to allow to thin the field so I can come back with 2xBCUs to finish things faster.

Kill all the webbers first (even triggers), kill the cruisers and BCs, then try close orbiting the BSs at <5k. Even doing about 175m/s you should reduce some of the incoming DPS as their guns will find it hard to track you.

Alternatively, another way to tank alot of damage is by kiting and opening the range, e.g. you move directly away from them. You can then kill anything that comes into range. When doing this it is important that you kill webbers ASAP AND keep moving all the time.

I can do the missions without Neut towers in a cerb by killing the webbers first and then close orbiting the BSs. BSs hit for ~3 damage especially the torp users... you can tank this forever with AB on and a Small Pithi B-type booster permarunning.

I have done several using a Nighthawk to tank, but I strongly recommend a second or third account for more DPS to speed things up.
