My corp does not use voice comms, as most of them are doing lvl 1's and, lets face it, mining ops dont have the same urgency of command as PvP ops.

So confirming Fuzzy Ducks quack only in the chat room

6-7 years back almost nobody used voice comms. and people actually TYPED, or they finally learned2play so that they dont need it anymore. if you have a bunch of newbs that need babysitting via teamspeak i dont think its going to make a big difference. i dont like to be forced to do anything in my life and especially in a GAME. what do u do if a few friends(doubtful that you have any) want to visit you at home and see what is this EVE game you've been playing for ages?
"sorry guys, ill be the Fleet Commander so I will not be able to chat with you when you come. I will be giving orders to my Fleet of spaceship pilots!". f this... if i cant play my own way, i wont play at all YARRRR!!

Camping the 4-4 undock requires quick communication and precise strategic maneuvers. Only the superior minded pilots in the Privateer Alliance are able to pull this off with out voice comms. They are so bad ass sometimes the FC is not even in game and gives orders via their forums. Luckily I have friends in low places and was able to secure an example post from the Privateer's forums.

I am deaf myself. After some asking around it's usually no problem to find corps who are willing to go a little out of their way and provide someone who types out orders. It was great in FDN and RE-Al (o/ guys!).
PvP w/o voice is not easy mode, especially when things heat up. But it's doable with some adjustments and common sense. I still had a blast and blew up more than I lost. So all is well. Razz

(And thinking I could not not PvP when I started EVE and go carebear instead. Ugh.)

Sons Of 0din dont use voice comms software, it is corp policy that when you join up, you have to move into our dedicated Eve House, it has a huge table that 30 people can sit around and just shout at each other. We are like a big commune and live together in harmony, growing tomato plants and eating lentil soup between our 23 hour eve shifts.

Eve isnt just a game to us, its a way of life.

True story.

SUAS once spent part of an op yelling at a guy who wasnt responding to his demands in teamspeak. The dude was actually deaf.

I lost most of my hearing in an IED blast two years ago in Iraq. While you *******s were at home gaining weight and making up stupid new acronyms I was being mortared in a 110+ desert. no, go **** yourself. i had the same thing happen to me. indirect mortar fire etc, yeah it sucks donkey balls for me on a daily basis. you don't see me waving it around like it makes my epeen bigger. i still use TS every day.

on a more friendly note, check with the VA and poke around newegg and other sites. there are a couple of speech-to-text programs and peripherals for PC's (not perfect, especially with accents, but get the job done) and plenty of assisted hearing devices. hearing aid+good set of headphones can do the trick, depending on the hearing loss levels and type of damage done to the eardrum.

EDIT: Eve-mail or PM me ingame and I'll hook you up with some linkies and recommendations.

If you would have been on voicecomms you would have heard the order to warp out... just sayin...

Honestly dude.. you being the rare exception to the norm there is no need to get upset.

We like to post our orders via written mail.
Find it's the most reliable way to make sure everyone gets their orders.

So you still have some hearing capabilities left? I suggest investing in some heavy PA speakers and some power capable amplifiers. That would fix your problem!

I'm pretty sure the PL alliance doesn't use voice, as evidenced by them DD'ing their own fleet instead of ours.

http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1191902

If they did use voice coms I am pretty sure someone would have said "No, we attack RED not PURPLE Mr Titan pilot... NOT PURPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I do not believe they perceived you as much as a threat as themselves, and thus they were never going for your fleet in the first place. Stop thinking you are so important mmkay?

1) As a fellow military vet I feel for ya. Sorry to hear you got wounded.
2) As a fellow military vet I don't have any sympathy for you vis-a-vis this thread. You provided no information as to why you wanted this info. Deal with the repercussions.
3) As a military vet, and knowing that people on these stupid forums will say anything to get attention, I hope like hell you are telling the truth cuz it'd be really ****ing lame to lie about something like that.

As to 'voice comms' anyone who does PVP will be using voice comms in EVE unless it's a VERY small group and it's very casual PVP. I know of a few that don't consider voice comms 'mandatory' (Actually GK comes to mind, chat them up in their public channel: gkpowa)

As to your hearing problem:
Someone else who is also hearing impaired already offered you a bunch of advice on voice-to-text apps, hearing aide and good headset etc. I suggest getting in touch with him.

But going emo on the forums because your question got you some entertaining replies is just silly.
