hi - jtl here.
i know i havent made a post in a while but i was on vacation so hurrah! im back!
anyway, im here to talk to you about another one of my ideas. i think that because amarr is really fotm and overpowered with there lasers, we should implement space mirrors. Huh?!? you might be asking. Well space mirrors are a new form of defence for your ship against amarrian lasers. these space mirrors are to help with your armor tank but they go in the midslots like a shield tank.
now you might be wondering "what do these space mirorrs do?" well space mirrors reflect a portion of amarrian lasers back at the ship shooting them. so if amarrian laser hits you for 3000 dps, only 2500 hits you, and 500 hits the attacker back if you have 3 tech 2 space mirrors fitted.
here are the skills required for space mirrors: navigation 4 all armor compensation skills to 3 hull upgrades 4
there are tech 2, tech 1, and named space mirrors. the max amount of space mirrors you can fit is 6 and if you fit six, 50% of amarrian laser damage gets reflected back and dont hit you.
i think space mirrors are important because amarr is realy good just look at scorch atm and its pretty overpowered imo. so these space mirrors will help balance out amarrian opedness.
thx

Why not just fit a tracking disruptor? |

Then what do we use for torpedoes (and missiles in general)? Little space monkeys crawling all over the ship that catches them and throws them back? |

Edited by: Serge Bastana on 28/09/2009 05:01:42But he wants the lazors to be reflected back at the aggressors, simply using game mechanics as they are just won't do, don't you understand this Can I coat my ship in rubber so all those nasty artillery shells bounce right off too? |

Space mirrors...?
This idea is silly. |

Why are you so negative Mr Happypants? Did you forget your pants today? I think his idea is horrible as well. |

I think it's always a slow day in his office. That was a euphemism, wasn't it? |

To be honest, reactive armour that shoots out a layer of nanite chaff would probably be much more effective at countering lasers. |

No, but what about rubber plating so we can bounce back artillery and autocannon shells... |

So I assume that anyone who shoots missiles or projectiles at you would break the mirrors in a couple of salvos but in return receive 7 years of bad luck, right? |

It's been done before. Unfortunately the heat from the lasers heats up the mirrors almost instantly which reduces their reflective properties and renders them useless. The "damage reflection" didn't work so well either due to oddly curved shaped hulls and general diffraction (the return laser was scattered so much that the reflected beam was less powerful than a flashlight per cm^2.)
Plan B is mount a few small black holes off of the hull. Since even light cannot escape a black hole, lasers would be ineffective. This method also has the benefit of working well against all other weapons too. But we're still working on the ability to keep a black hole close enough to a ship to be useful while a) preventing the ship from being sucked in, and b) from becoming perma-afk to everyone else due to time dilation...
