I currently run level 3 missions in an active tanked Myrmidon. Those go just fine but I am looking to possibly do some level 4 missions since I've finally got my battleship and large hybrid turret skills up. However I only recently started playing again after a 2 year hiatus and am kind of unsure as to how I should fit for those missions. My thinking was either Megathron or Hyperion fitted similarly to my Myrm but since those will be more gun oriented I wasn't sure if an active tank would be a good idea.

Anyone got some good suggestions for level 4 mission fittings (using Gallente boats of course, but please note I cannot afford Navy ships)? Thanks for any input!

EDIT: I should also add that suggestions for running level 4 missions in general would be helpful too. Always good to know what I am getting into.

While I've not been using Gallente ships for missions, Battleships generally does not do well with a passive tank (understatement)!

lvl4
- dont aggro all at once.
- salvage with a separate ship
- kill scramblers first, webbers second

I would prefer Megathron in your place. Run EFT on different setups, check Battleclinic for loadouts, nuffin wrong with active tank if your cap can take it.

Also check your mission on Eve-survival before you jump in. So you know which hardeners to use and which ships are the triggers. There are a couple of missions that can really go awry if you pop the wrong ships first. Very useful stuff, often the comments as well.

Are you using drones with your Myrm? If so the next boat up would be the Domi. Armour tanked with 2xLAR2, 3x EANM2, 1x1600mm 1xDCU2 should tank all lvl4 with good aggro control but not afk.

If you want to use a Hyp...

Vespa II x5
Hornet II x5

500ish tank for Serpentis for ~6 mins or so if you keep shooting, longer if you don't use AM. Amarr navy repper does nice things to Hyps.

Never liked the Mega for PvE. I'd really recommend a sentry Domi, though. Plenty of domi fits around, usually one in S&M every couple of days, something like:

H: 350mm x5, drone link
M: 3 cap recharger, 2 omni tracking links
L: LAR2, 3-4 hardeners, 1-2 magstabs, CPR
R: Aux nano pump, CCC, Sentry dmg

Drones: Garde x5, flight of mission specific sentries, flight of med, flight of light

Have to pay attention, but it works great + grows with skills fantastically well.

ishtar 4tw. it tanks better than a domi (better resistances, smaller sig radius), it's faster (so blasters become an option), and has the same drone m3/damage/hitpoint bonuses as a domi, and as long as you skill up HACs to 4-5 you can fit whatever you need in it. with a couple of medium ion blasters it's quite nice for killing npc bs.

I can easily do lvl 4 Enemies Abound 5/5 (vs. Minmatar) in one, and my domi got melted in that mission. I use an EANP II, mission specific active hardener and secondary energized (or whatever makes sense), along with 2 med repper II's, AB II, CR II's in mids. I can either run both reppers or repper/ab, or burst the AB and it's cap stable with an armor repair amount and cap recharge rigs.

The domi wasn't fast enough to kite them and with 10+ BS hurling explosive and EM at a big fat gallente droneboat, you are in trouble...

I haven't had a lvl 4 that the ishtar can't do. It's boring, pre-kali etc, but it's a workhorse.

That's the only lvl 4 I couldn't do in the Domi though.

Mega:

2x Mag stabs
3x Hardeners
1x LAR
1x Tracking enhancer

3x Cap recharger
1x AB

7x 425mm rails
1x Heavy missile launcher or drone link augmentor.

Better than the hyperion. This comes from experience.
