Lo all,

Everybody is talking about putting crystals on their energy guns... and being a Minmitar, I'm not very experienced with energy guns.

Can anyone help me... what guns (and crystals) should I fit and what are the effects of the crystals.

Thanks all...

Like ammunition for projectile and hybrid guns, the choice of crystal affects the range, damage and capicitor usage of the gun. Like ammo they can be changed in flight and many pilots keep a selection in their holds to allow flexibility.

Multifrequency are the shortest range but most powerful.

Radio are the longest range but weakest, with the others falling in between.

Also, the crystals change the colour of the laser beam, which can lead to some nice light shows. Cool

Edit: Hard to specify guns when not knowing what you're flying and for what role, but basically beams are long range and pulse lasers shorter range. Crystals, like ammo are also in 3 sizes depending on the size of the gun you want them for.

Frequency crystals for laser turrets work just the same as other forms of ammo, except that they don't get used up when you shoot. Radio is good for long range, multifrequency for close up but good damage, uv and infrared tend to be popular in the middle.

As for which lasers, well, it rather depends on what you're flying. As a general rule, pulse lasers are very good atm, unless you're looking for absolute max range possible.

Oh, and one more point, until Tech 2 types of laser crystal are released, it's worth noting that unlike projectiles, you can't alter the types of damage they do, all lasers to a mix of EM and Thermal damage.

Any energy weapon can be fitted with a crystal to modify their range, damage and cap usage. They range from Multifrequency (grey ones) that do the most damage but have a low optimal range, up to Radio (red ones) which do the least damage (sort of) but can shoot farther. The general rule is more damage = shorter range. Oh, and they come in three sizes of course, small, medium and large, for use in the different gun sizes.

My suggestion is that you get yourself a couple of small energy weapons, a bunch of small crystals and stick it all on a frig (punisher for instance) and go zap some despoilers. Scribble the ranges and colours down on a piece of paper (or use brain) because when you're in battle you'll be wanting to change crystals on the fly to reflect the distance between you and your target.
