Eve has changed over the years I have been playing and I've been trying to work out at what point Eve changed from the game I loved to play to what it si now. I've come to the conclusion that it was jumpbridges both Pos and Titan that marked that change.

Since they were introduced the following has occurred.
- Goods can be moved risk free.
- Forces can be deployed all over eve in rapid time leading to the creation of super coalitions.
- The pipes to empire carry a fracion of the traffic they once did. Meaning fewer targets for roaming gangs and no need for resident alliances to defend them making the only target an alliance has to defend the PoS, whereby attackers can be hotdropped by forces from the other side of the map thanks to the Jumpbridges.

I would love to see a return to the Eve of old and I think this is how it could be achieved, CCP would never do this of course but please discuss.

Absolutely brilliant. None of the thousands of people playing a game have though about this before and I must say this is a perfect solution to the most pressing problem in EVE. No, not even combining the flaws of Titans, Motherships, Projectile weapons, Tech 2 shortrange ammo, Tech 3 cost and the bore of anything related to POSes come within an inch of these horrile things we call jumpbridges.

I say this man becomes the lead game designer since his vision of EVE is spot on and fair.

I wonder how many of you who are insulting me were actually palying Eve back in 2005. Its an opinion I wished to express, a valid one too. Are the insults really necessary?

If you think they are not a problem, if you liek the game mechanic they way it is then why not try some rational debate.

Anyone whos says anything that is not agreed upon by the majority is imemediately flamed and ridiculed - give me a good reason why I am wrong and I'll consider it.

You want to remove jump bridges so you can gank easy targets like haulers and ratters. Nothing wrong with ganking, but be a man and find them like everyone else does. Also escorting a freighter for 20 jumps with the awesome amount of lag back then so cool I really miss it. With their insane warp speeds it was the best 2 hours of my life.

^^ because jump freighters get ganked at cyno beacons and jump bridges all the time and going back to the old freighter ops isnt what 0.0 dwellers want. Freighter ops are boring, time consuming and have a very high chance of ending in fail for one of the freighters.

Even with jump bridging its not rocket science to work out what low sec system the route ends at and camp that.Wink

I'm not 100% sure, but it sounds like you don't totally mean everything you're saying. Maybe, even, meaning the opposite of what you're saying.

Here's a less drastic alternative:
Don't remove JBs - but make the fuel cost progressive. Same for jump-capable ships of course.

The farther the jump the progressively more fuel it needs.
That way JBs would still serve a useful purpose as alliance infrastructure and keep regular intra-region trips from getting too tedious. But it would take many more jumps to cross the whole map.

That would achieve the stated goal of making alliance warfare again more local and super-coalitions less necessary as an answer to fast capital logistics. If your opponents can't assemble a super-fleet at the drop of a hat - then neither do you need to ally with everybody who's not already in the other camp.

Beyond that I have to say that while EVE *did* change a lot - most of the changes were improvements.

We all would be bored to death and highly annoyed with EVE 2004.
Most of your favourite ship types would not exist.
Corp management would suck way more than it still does.
Many early design mistakes would still be around.
Much less options all aroud.

Look on the bright side. JBs have given you even more structures to shoot at! I'm new and have never seen life without jump bridges. I do know however that travel in this game can be a major pain.

The number of gates you have to camp have been reduced, but all you need is one!

Wouldn't it make sense to hold off on ideas like this until we know what CCP has planned for sovereignty as a whole?

Bridges should if anything be buffed to simulate real infrastructure, with bridges in central systems having longer range than fringe systems.
Makes outgoing traffic fast as is but slows down defensive contractions of the blobs by requiring better bridge planning allowing roams to do some damage.

If Eve is to grow geographically bridges are a necessity. Imagine living in a place like the Drone Regions .. 30+ jumps to empire .. the furthest regions would be completely barren without bridges.

Gotta disagree with you here.

Why would it be a good thing to have all of EVE at same travel-time to empire. Outlying low pop areas aren't a bad thing. Neither are outer empires - who have to build local infrastructure - or do trade with "middle" empires. That's way more interesting that having a uniform we're only a couple of good jumps from empire everywhere.

You posted this topic in GD, obviously you have not played since 2005 since you haven't figured out that posting anything in GD will immediatly start a flame and insult fest, especially if its a complaint or a suggestion to change the game.

ps, post with your main.

Ideally, this is exactly how EVE should be. Where the further out you get, the more the sense of isolation gets. Afterall you are getting further and further from civilization.

Practically though, you are entirely right. CCP made their decision on this matter way back with the introduction of warp-to-zero. People don't like to spend hours simply watching warp tunnels.

As for the thread. Many of us wish EVE could go back to the old days. Hell I'd like warp-to-15 back, jump freighters and jumpbridges gone. Make distance actually mean something. Many of us also know that discussing these things in General Discussion is simply whining and doing the whole "damn kids have it too easy today" routine that is accepted in most areas as proof of elegibility for a senior discount. Laughing

If you actually want to try and effect game changes, try a forum where that is actually possible. Wink

Get urself a bunch of bombers.
Sit at each end of the jumpbridge with bombers cloaked.

Wait until freighter/hauler comes. PEW PEW and warp?

Good? Last point u were worried about things being too easy and not enough destruction.
Now you complain about too much destruction?

Good? Only scum live there anyway.

Then again... when are we even talking? Back when carriers could move anything themselves? I really doubt there was ever a situation where logistics were a problem for people. To where newbs needed to move through low sec scum pipes.

Wormholes started with promise but ccp resorted to the time tested high sec to high sec sometimes via a wormhole system. We started off with regular 00 to high sec links but then to many big alliances had ratters in their industrial heartland. And ccp nerfed it

Low sec well eveyrone went into sleeper space made profits now low sec is empty, wormhole space is busy but profits are less.

The game as far as pvp all good points, higher costs of jump bridges perhaps, timer limits 50 ships per hour perhaps

Duno if you're joking here. I remember the days - long before carriers even existed where you could get really really isolated out in the deep deep 0.0. No conquerable npc stations, no outposts - just you, some stars and planets and nothing else. And the sure knowledge that your valuable deep space haul was eagerly awaited by gate campers at a choekpoint on your return trip.

Well - WH restored some of that feeling.

Don't really miss WT15 - everybody and his so had a zillion BM to have effective WT0. All those must-have BMs got very annoying.

no they wouldn't. in fact they likely would be regionalized. instead of getting all your equipment from jita, you'd rely more on local produced equipment/ressources. deepspace operations would rely more on miners/producers doing their stuff, instead of some guys jumping their freighters/carriers/jumpfreighters/whatever by cynologistics to empire and back.
