Hull: Moa Class
Role: Heavy Assault Ship

Built on the shoulders of the sturdy Moa and improving on its durability and range, the Eagle is the next generation in Caldari gunboats. Able to fire accurately and do tremendous damage at ranges considered extreme by any cruiser pilot, this powerhouse will be the bane of anyone careless enough to think himself out of its range.

------------------------

so, if nothing is wrong with the ship itself ... they must be something really wrong with railguns if you ask me ... otherwise i dont understand the description of this HAC at all

Never trust ship descriptions. Ever. In cases like the Merlin they actually downright lie
"highly valued for its versatility using both missiles and turrets"
When in fact split weapon layouts are generally terrible and avoided.

Is this your way of saying:

"Eagle needs more range and damage!!!!"?

(roleplay crap)Moa and improving on its durability and range, (more roleplay crap). Able to fire accurately and do tremendous damage at ranges considered extreme by any cruiser pilot, (even more roleplay crap).

See what I did there? The only thing wrong now is the adjective "Tremendous."

In other news; Eagle makes a crap blaster boat -> Makes a crap solo ship for anything but lols -> Has a niche sniper role. Fortunately sniper HACs are flavor of the month. Ironically its not even the best sniper HAC. The Zealot is better.

Its meant to be a sniper.... it can't even fit a full rack of 250 rails without an rcu2.

Therefore it sucks.

For some reason CCP decided most caldari ships would suffer a chronic fitting shortage, needing more fitting mods than other ships of the same class to achieve the same fits.

Agreed. Most Caldari ships could be quite good ships, but due to their low PG, their utility highs remain useless.

That applys to sooooo many Caldari ships and most even need fittingmods just to fill their purpose slots.

To be able to finaly use them could make the lack of drones lose some weight.

But remember, we got to deal with CCP here, they prolly wont even understand what were saying :)

Ironically the Falcon have loads of Pg to mess around with. Still waiting for CCP to spot that.

I think as a blaster boat the Eagle:

[Eagle, Eagle]
Damage Control II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

Large Shield Extender II

Heavy Electron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M

Medium Energy Neutralizer II

Core Defence Field Extender I
Core Defence Field Extender I

Compares quite favorably with the average Denios:

[Deimos, PvP]
Damage Control II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

Yes the demios does around around 250 DPS more than the eagle once you factor in the medium drones but the eagle will tank about 120 of that DPS on it's natural shield re-charge and has ~20% more EHP, plus is cheaper to rig extenders being cheaper than trimarks.

And now we go with ECM drones and your Eagle will lose, without single chance to win.

: And to remind you, your Eagle tanks 120dps at ~30% of its shield and you wont gonna stay more then a few seconds at this sweet spot.

Built onto a giant space turkey the eagle is the next generation of caldari gunboats but the zealots still better while being pretty useless as a sniper it dose make a pretty good miner

lets face it ... the eagle + 250er railguns II + spike M is, even @ all necessary skills on 5, horrible underpowered ...

so the big question is ... what is exactly the problem ? is it the ships itself or are the turrets medicore compared to other long range turret systems ?

to ensure a possible solution for this problem, i order now a six sigma ^lean meeting for this critical issue

someone please contact the local black belt!
check your FMEA's

IF you're gonna use Blasters on an Eagle, then please use Null and put that huge range bonus to use.
It won't do spectacular damage, but the range at which it can do the damage it still does is unrivaled by anything below a Battleship (save for a HML Cerb but it has a delay due to missiles).

Eagle's an extreme range gunboat.
Sadly though, there's not a great deal of demand for doing seriously mediocre amounts of damage from extreme ranges.

And if there is, then you use a battleship, because at that kind of range anything can track.

I think the problem started when someone in charge decided that a 5% bonus to damage was equal to a 10% bonus to range. The range bonus doesn't do much for blasters and it does very little for railguns that are using a high damage ammo like antimatter. If the range bonus was changed to 20% instead of 10% you could use one of the higher damage under used ammo's (like Thorium) at sniper ranges where medium rails would track well. Has balancing the percentages used in bonuses ever been looked at? Most of the numbers sound like they should balance out but don't in practice, a 5% resist bonus to shield doesn't balance against a 5% damage bonus, and a 7.5% to shield boosting or armor repping have little to no place in pvp at all.

Eagle would be an awesome ship if it could fit a rack of neutrons, and still have a 'sensible' ship. I mean, it'd hurt for the lack of drone bay - but there's a lot to be said for 10km optimal on blasters :)

The eagles entire role is the super long range hac. Not saying it's that great but it's role is there and in a few situations it can work. it even has some tanking potential worked into it.

the muninns role is flexibility/alpha being able to fit a couple launchers a 25m drone bay and almost twice the alpha of the other sniper hacs.

and the zealots role is dps/tank being able to put out 50% more dps and tank and also having a tracking advantage thrown in for some reason.

The problem isn't as simple as a single ship it's more like the whole systems broken. Amarr are supposed to be the tank/dps yet they get the 2nd best ewar, best tracking, decent tacklers, awesome carrier.... I could go on but imo if all the zealot had was it's dps there wouldn't be a problem. or better yet if range and alpha and flexibility where actually useful then we wouldn't have a problem either.

Almost nobody can fit a full rack of maximum size guns without running into grid (and sometimes CPU) limits, CCP did that on purpose to all ships. Hell, Maelstrom has over 20k base grid, and it takes max fitting skills to just barely squeeze in 8x1400mm IIs - and then you still have to fit RCU/PDU because you don't have any grid left for tank/propulsion.

The eagle, is crap.

Sniper hacs are crap.

Just use a BS (or even a ferox).

The only "sniper" hac worth considering is the cerb due to nice damage and high alpha.
Focus on secondaries and the lag damage won't be too much of an issue.

The zealot is ok but not fitting pulse to a zealot is kinda..hmm, pointless?

Not quite crap, but below Zealot and Munin in doing what sniper hacs are supposed to do (dps at around 100 km)

That's precisely why most of the 0.0 alliances field them regularly. because we think flying in crappy ships would give EFT warriors like you a chance.

Cerb has it's uses but for most activities is inferior to gun-based HACs as only too rarely the target won't be dead/warped by the time your second volley lands.

So, we should fit pulses to a zealot in order to have a 150+mil uninsurable ship(with fit and rigs), that deals less damage as a harbinger, at about same range adn has a paperthin tank. Really good point there.

How much damage do your 100km sniper fits do at 100km? I have one that does 240 dps. Comparable Zealot = 290 dps, comparable Muninn = 220 dps.

Doesn't look too bad. Also has better tracking and the option to go to 150km.

So, you faction magstab your eagle or use frentix boosters? Or just drop any sort of tank to put RoF rig,3* tracking computer w/optimal scripts& faction thorium ammo?

243 dps, 853 alpha, 100km optimal + 14km falloff; locks out to 109 km; 20k EHP; tracks 0.029 rad/s.

Slow as hell, though, and it's bloody ridiculous that you need an RCU2 and an ACR to fit a rack of 250s+ MWD + LSE.

disclaimer: the above fit is pure EFT-fu, I have never flown an Eagle.

Eagle is good at what it do, but to me what it do is too narrow for me to bother. It suffers fromt the usual "not designed to use MWD, so it do not need grid" Caldari syndrome.

After the Zealot, the Eagle is the best sniper hac in the game. It's fine.

(No, the Muninn is worse - less DPS and tracking at 100km.)

Yes its a good sniper - and absolutely nothing else. A cruiser size PURE sniper isnt particularly desirable to most people.
