This is definitely a long-term request, like not this coming expansion, but the one after or even the one after that. I'd like to add Jovian as the 5th playable race. You would start out in Jovian space, which would be open to everyone. You would have Jovian missions, one or two new types of ore in jovian systems' belts. Jovian ships, jovian weapons, jovian skills, the whole shibang.

I just think the same 4 races are slowly getting a little stale, no matter how many new ships or missions you add to them. We already have the 5th race out there. Let's use them. Again, this would be a HUGE undertaking, creating all the ships, weapons, missions (and probably npc jovian pirate faction o.0). But I'd like to see it 1 or 2 expansions down the road.

Storyline could revolve around them finally wanting to reach out of their own space for some reason. Curiousity? Cataclysm in their home area? Whatever.

Anyone on board with this? Or do you prefer Jovians remain hermit npcs?

edit*** To clarify, we are talking about creating a backstory along the lines of "rogue faction of Jove with limited access to jovian advanced technology venture out into the universe and start interacting with the other races." I am not suggesting implementing the demi-god superpower they are now, but one balanced with the other races. This appeases everyone, as you get a lot of new diversity with a balanced playable Jove race, yet the old backstories about their superior technology remains intact.

Well the Jove are some 20 years (or even more) of the empire technology. They would be horribly overpowered.

it has been stated somewhere that jove will never become a playabe race. and its more like 200 years infront of the other races. jovian stuff is way to overpowered to be brought into the game at present levels maybe as tek 5 or 6 but not now

If memory serves the devs had said in the past that the Jove have tech5 as there standard tech level.

Absolutely freaking not.
There are two ways they could do this
- Implement them as they are in the lore, in which case they make every other race hilariously obsolete.
- Implement them in a toned down form, which ****es all over the backstory.

I hate both of these, so this gets a no from me. The fact you missed this basic game balance issue indicates you put absolutely no thought into it whatsoever.

How is this any different than the sleepers they are far more powerful (frig to frig cruiser to cruiser) than any race in the game yet people bring them down as teams all races have flaws no mater how advanced but i say wait till the 4 current races figure out how to have attacks always hitthe low resist like sleepers do before you make the jovians a Playable race

Jove >>>>>> Sleepers.
That's how different.
Also sleepers hit the lowest resist because they do every damage type.

His point stands
A Jove frig wtfpwnmobile wouldn't unbalance the game as long as their quantity is kept in check. They would be gank magnets, and probably very expensive

CCP could add some kind of PvE content with or vs Jove that's limited in availability and extremely difficult

So what's the hurt in adding them?
They already exist in the game

Extra dev time on a ship that'll be either OP or worthless when there are dozens of broken ships and mechanics already in-game.

Actually... all the Jove ships (along with a ton of other "rares") already have in-game models, with real stats.

Play with this page on the IGB

The problem is plain and simple, that CCP wanted to mimic other Sci Fi without copyright infringement.

Vorlons

Q Continuum

The Ancients

In short... CCP wanted to make models only they could fly. Something other players would immediately recognize as unique and alien, and go "ooh" and "ahh".

The storyline justification also leaves it open for later expansions. Sleepers, Talocan, Jovians, all these peoples who could possibly raise up at a later date and pose a threat or ally.

how about bringing in the terran race again?

News:-

A new stable wormhole was discovered in system j1209348390 (in sleeper space) that takes capsuleers to the milkyway galaxy. (links to some system in a remote part of the milkyway)
a New Eden capsuleer working for the Sisters of Eve was charting sleeper space when he accidently discovered the wormhole... so using his new Explorer class ship and its enhanced scanners and probes, he set about scanning the wormhole to see if it was stable enough to fly through, but to his amazement he discovered that it had the same properties that only one other known wormhole had.... it was the exact same properties of the original wormhole, one like the one that brought humanity to new eden, and it too was stable. He entered the wormhole and after several hours he found himself on the otherside. He quickly began to scan the stars against his database to check for any points of reference a way to find out where he was and how far the wormhole had taken him. After several minutes the ship's computer informed him it found a matching star chart. It was the milkyway. He had done it. He had found a way home. A way home to Earth!!!

Terran Storyline:- Following the collapse of the original wormhole 35000 years ago that lead to New Eden, The Terran empire found itself in an overcrowded galaxy and with constant food shortages and the lack of new resources it began to break it apart... after a long a bloody civil war lasting a thousand years, a great plague emerged, though some terrans believed it was created by their enemies, this plague mutated and devastated the terran population killing almost 90% and the few lucky enough to escape the plague lived in remote isolated planets in a system on the fringes of the galaxy by disabling their stargates to prevent the plague reaching them. Eventually after 10000 or so years a cure to the plague was finally found and over the next 20000 or so years, the decendants of those lucky survivors reactivated their stargate, they returned to an empty galaxy full of relics of a once great civilisation long since gone. They headed for Earth. The route was difficult as most of the stargate network was either destroyed or offline. Slowly they reactivated those gates that werent destroyed and began to recolonize the systems. They absorbed any humans that they discovered on worlds cut off from the gate network. After a few thousand years they had rebuilt a new terran empire.

--------------------------------------------

The reason for war & plague is to account for 35000 years so terrans would not be over powered and put them on a slightly above equal (sleeper level difficulty) par with the 4 main new eden races.

Well its just an idea but it would be cool to try conquer the sol system.

Terran ships would require crews (a new fuel requirement of those ships) as they have not met the jovians and got pod technology

So bring on the biggest OMGWTF change to the game it could ever have and make it similar to everything else by some ridiculous excuse? Have you considered a job as a hollywood writer? You seem to have a natural talent for wasting potential, so it might be a realistic career option for you.

Also no to the idea as jovian being a playable race. I can see no reason why CCP would give away their story device, that they also use to fix holes in their fiction. They would just have to create another agent, that is even more powerful and mystical then the jovians and we would return to where we began.

Cool new ships and playable races can be added to the game without ruining the jovians. Lost human tribes or human/rogue drone hybrids would do just fine. If we are getting new playable races at some point, I truly hope they don't function like the ones we already have. Choices between the current races don't matter in the slightest, so anything new should make a significant difference or adding it is just a waste of development resources.

firstly i didnt ask for the jovian race i asked for the terran race.

secondly i suggested that terran ships use crews not pods (as they could not have met the jovian for pod technology)

thirdly i suggested that their npc's be similar (in terms of AI as sleepers)

this would make them somewhat different to the normal races.

I think they should add some sort of alien race - possibly from another region/area through some sort of stable wh, maybe several or maybe that just arrived on the far fringes of the known galaxy (where ever all the best moons are Very Happy)
Could create a barren 'low sec/0.0' region behind them and have any noobs or old hands that want to sign up all start there out of npc titan type ships (these would be the stations)
Obviously the region wouldnt be barren but the new race should or could be some sort of alien race that cant communicate with humans or dont want to - of course this could be open to manipulation but as im not a dev im not gonna come up with a balance here just an initial idea :)
although...
They could be nomadic and therefore move around the outer fringes and have a couple of different factions within themselves etc etc... Confused

Actually that is not what was stated. It was however stated that since the jovian ships never received any love over the years outside of the base resists of some ships and the slots they are realisticly underpowered in comparison and the majority of them do not even receive bonus' as our ships do at this time.

It should also be noted that the Jove race was not discounted as ever being a playable race by the dev's they simply said that they have no plan's on making the jove playable until they are happy with the rest of the game or decide it makes sense to do so.

Just as originally tech levels were supposed to go to 7 =)

Not really relate but still cool....I dont think its around anymore but there also used to be a database dump somewhere with alot of cool stuff that is not ingame.

well seeing as we can't keep the number of titans in check I really don't see us stopping the jove swarm.... and when some elite pvp corp with enough backing starts forming up a fleet of jove only ships and using that to attack their enemy things start getting messy.

IMO, the best way to make jovians playable is to have it so much like the pirate faction ships, you need multiple skillsets to use them. Say, all four? Since the jovians are letting us pilot their ships, They could be limited as result of us being to young to use their full technology.

Suppose the Jovians have been kidnapping members of the 4 other races to attempt cross breeding experiments, the justification is to try to weed out their own genetic diseases by DNA mixing. This would create a cross breed race that could be brought into the game as playable characters.

While general set-up and cross training in Eve means that most characters can, in time, do most things, perhaps the cross breeds could be very, very specialised. I.e. they have outstanding abilities at certain tasks but are genetically incapable of doing certain things. It might answer some new players gripes that they can't really compete in the early stages of their Eve life, they are given the option of playing a cross breed character that will enter the game with unnaturally high abilities in certain areas but development of this character will be severely restricted. It will always be a specialist and must be a start-up character and not an alt. Perhaps it's enhanced abilities only function in wormhole space and in normal space it is at a massive disadvantage?

IMO, no do not make the Jovians a PLAYABLE race. Save the J's for something NEW.

E.g. Maybe a corporation could declare war on Jovians inside a particular system or region, and the wage fleet wars, much like in a mission, but in "regular" space. Some AI could spawn a reasonable amount of resistance when a fleet encounter occurs while at war. Maybe Jovian loot/salvage could be introduced, in small amounts, in connection with this. Anyways, something new'ish.

Making the J's playable will remove a very big mystery and player anticipation factor from EVE.

More importantly, it would just kill eve. One of the biggest things that, imo makes eve great, is that stuff added never seems to be designed so new players have something older players can never have/use. Adding jovians starting would be like in galaxies where they made jedi's a selectable starting class, resulting in that MMO's demise. Jovians are, as far as we know, the most advanced, and enlightened of the factions. When jovians are released, they should be something only those that are of truely astronomical rewards.

If jovian ships do come out, would be interesting if they were made non tradable, a reward for your character, and yours alone.... Linked to only you, much like your pod... oooh, yeah... ultimate reward, twinkers need not apply...

I dunno, this sort of reminds me of the 'Death Knight' disaster ( for those of you who don't have two WoW addict brothers, a Death Knight is a 'hero' class that becomes available to you once you reach level 50 on one of your previous characters, when created your new Death Knight also starts at level 50 and not level 1. It was an absolute catastrophy, all battlegrounds above level 50 are infested with Death Knights since they are simply so much better than the rest, hard to find any other classes ).

Since the Jovians survived the collapse of the EVE gate pretty nicely they have had about 20 thousand years of technical evolution ( the time on Terra not included ). Adding them as a playable race would mean stripping the playable Jovians of pretty much all their knowledge and mental capacity ( you think they haven't played around with their DNA? ). Their little empire is the smallest entity in New Eden, there is no reason why they would want to make it even smaller by throwing out some people.

CCP can make a nerfed version of Jove, not the ones used by devs and such.
A Jove race ballanced according with the actual game.

ppl annoy me with this line "jove is overpowereeeed jove is overpowereeed!!"

NO! its not becose this race dont even exist!

There was few modeled old versions used by devs to play in GOD MODE, as the fun they were geting at a certain point.

They can make Jove slightly powered and expensive, for exemple like t2/3 ships we already have.

Ok, how about a Jovian ship as a reward for the truly long term player. It can't be sold, bought or traded and when undocked from the station it insta-warps you to the Jovian systems. There it has no abilities other than to allow you to cruise at will around the Jovain systems drinking in their visual splendour. A sort of 'time-out' tourist trip for those that have achieved great things in the game. Essential pointless but none the less attractive to Eve nuts.

And butchering the backstory in the process because Jove ships are significantly more dangerous than even t3.
From just the limited amount of info from chronicals etc. even their smaller ships are shown as having EWAR stronger than the Caldari, lasers more advanced than the Amarrians and the equivilent of covops cloaks on their ships.
