So I've been composing an in-game list of ALL ships at http://gogela.com/eve/info.html and I'm having trouble with the database dump (found here). Is anyone here a database guru? I installed the free microsoft SQL 2008 but I can't get the database to import. Is there any way to convert it into a spreadsheet or something? Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

We'd be able to help you more if you told us what error you were getting -- there's any number of things that can go wrong with the import, all of which have a different fix.

I guess I just don't know what I'm doing at all. I just want to sift through it and see all the ships that have an item number. Could you maybe direct me to a site where I can see how to view the data in this database? Sorry to trouble you with this, I cursed with this vision sans the skills to achieve it :D

I think this query would give you what you wanted (once you got the data imported):
select T.typeID, T.typeName, G.groupName, T.published
from invTypes T
join invGroups G on T.groupID=G.groupID
join invCategories C on G.categoryID=C.categoryID
where C.categoryName='Ship'

Here's the results from that against the 1.5 data dump -- first column is the ship's ID, then it's name, category (ie. class), and a 1 if it's actually active in game (0 if it's not).

Kane... you are too cool for school my friend. That was everything I needed, and sure enough there is some stuff here I didn't have. Thank you so much for the help! I finally got the SQL database to import but needed a querry to view, and wouldn't have been able to write that myself. Thanks again!
