I just wanted to thank everyone that answers all the Rifter topics when they come up. I finally got my skills to the point of equiping a 10 MN AB (please don't turn this into a 10 MN AB overpowered discussion). I finally got to test my setup.

Took it into battle against a 90k Guritas Mortifier helping a Corp mate out on a agent mission. Orbited at 7.5K. Did not take a hit until after the rat was dead. Turned off my AB and his last light missile caught up with me. Definately had my adrenalin going, wondering if my ship would survive.

Another option for that use might be rockets.. they do more DOT then light missiles but also have a shorter range (10km vs 20km)
This also leaves your with more pg to maybe get some 280mm howies in there instead of the 250mm's


Your should try hunting serpentis cruisers in 0.0-0.4 space.. I sometimes take my rifter to fight the lower end of the 0.0 spawns in syndicate and it works like a charm Very Happy

is a No-NO to mix rockets with 280`s

you have to be close to use rockets,, you have to be at range for 280`s to function properly,

if you gonna fit rockets then use 125 ac`s so you can be `in-yer-face` style combat

Dunno.. vs cruiser 280 seem to hit ok at that range.. but U may be right, if your not gonna get then u might as well use AC's

Use 200's and rockets if you are interested in using a web/10mn ab combo. Try to fit a small armor rep because for npcing you want to have some form of repairing available.

You will be quite happy using the following:
3x200 (DON'T THROW AWAY THE SHIP BONUS FFS)
1xRocket Launcher
and either:
1x10mnAB,1xWeb/CapRecharger/Scrambler
1xMAPC,1xSmArmorRep
-or-
1xMWD (for approach only), 1xSm Shield Boost
1xGyro/1xTracking or whatever you want in lows... a CPR is nice too

With either of these - get in and orbit at 1km. You'll want to turn your speed mod off when you get into orbit (for better hits).

The damage is incredible - and until you get an interceptor (if you like Frig combat - you WILL get an interceptor) - this is the next best thing! YARRRR!!

one mid slot toy that works wonders against npcs on a close range rifter is a weapon tracking disruptor. Assuming they aren't flinging bunches of missiles at you, you can orbit without your mwd and just rip them apart while they keep missing.

yes, the rifter....my first true love even before i entered beta Wink

i just built me one more (the Rabid Rabbit 3)to get some fun doing L3 missions.
i have several ships better suited to this....but i just want to fly the good ol' Rifter again.

at the moment i use:

hi:
2x200mm T2
2xlimos standard

mid:
10mn Ab
small shield booster

Low:
Micro Aux.
cap power relay

not the best setup available...i just grabbed what i had laying around.
(don't try to convince me, 150s or 125s are better than 200s. i build
them...so i HAVE to think they are better than anything else Wink )

weirda, you get better damage from 125mm gatlings vs npc's due to tracking concerns, and it lets you fit a rcu istead of a micro aux

this does bring you to insanely close range, but, 50k cruiers last for about 40 seconds against it

I think that against cruisers the dot is actually slightly better with 200 acms - because of the cruisers size the lesser tracking compared to the 125s isn't really an issue. Fighting frigs however is another matter.

I use a Rifter to kill a 110k Blood something that looks like a Maller. I did it as practice before getting an interceptor. It really took a while to do it since the rat was tanking damage. I didn't use any AB or MWD. Just warped in and tanked the damage before getting it close with my 250s. I don't suggest doing it like the way I did though, a single 1mn AB would suffice. Did it again on a Sansha Mutantlord (110K).

I also did try to kill a 110K with an Incursus, using an AB this time. The Mutantlord nearly smoked the Incursus before the Incursus got into lethal orbiting range. I got the rat though, but I felt it's easier doing it on a Rifter.
