Here's a theory:
Dust players start out in the employ of the empires, fighting on a set of lowsec planets where there is battle regardless of what Eve players do (though faction warfare would probably be linked to it somehow). Additionally, there would be the option of becoming a mercenary hired and supplied by Eve Players, fighting on planets out in 0.0 space.
And what exactly would that fighting on planets accomplish for the people out in 0.0? I mean... am I going to go hire a bunch of kids with aimbot to kick Goonswarm out of Delve? ugh

Basicly, yes. Except hopefully there won't be aimbots.

My theory is based on this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8PDbU0Fl5k

In it it's said that control of planets will be one of the factors in the eve sovereignity system, and Dust players will do the planetside fighting.

If thats the case, I pity the mod who will have to troll COAD and CNP

Someone had asked what people thought the 514 means in Dust. Well my answer is...The amount of planets that Dust players are going to be allowed fight over.

i'm betting that in EvE you have to transport the "tickets" (ala BattleField series games) to various stations. wait for the battle to end (take place in console world) and then you can move those "spawn tickets" to another station.

This makes more sense than any other guess I have seen.

Thank you. I was taking a show when it hit me. 514 cant be a release date, because there could be problems on the date projected. Only allowing 514 players in the game is just stupid and then I thought that has to be how many planets you can conquer.

514 is the number of times you can bite the dust. Or maybe your cloning batch number.

P.s. Dust will bite the dust.

Will I be able to nuke random FPS players from orbit?
How hard is it for ppl to understand that Dust will be totally separate game, not a new client to eve?

The only connection between these games will be just database sync after successfull or unsuccessfull attack in Dust...

That kinda stuff isn't realistic at all.

They're not actually morphing two games to one overlapping entity.

I can say with 98% certainty, that we won't be able to interact directly with DUST at all. Seriously, it's a totally different game, in all forms and aspects.

How do you guys envision, a ship that we fly here and now, to suddenly morph in to a 3D FPS environment and land on a planet to drop off troops?

How do you imagine you fly to a planet and start bombadring people in an FPS environment that EVE isn't built for at all? Eve is an apple, DUST is an orange no you can't have apploranges.

There will be a monetary connection, perhaps a contract related connection as well. The games will communicate through overlapping servers that forward information on changes. You give a contract to DUST players in EVE, DUST players go do their thing in DUST, servers forward contract, isk, and planetary information.

I think we can all quite safely assume EVE players will stay eve players and DUST players will be DUST players. EVE players won't be joining DUST players or the other way around.

Not only is it such a huge undertaking to change a game EVE is now, in to an FPS supporting environment, but you also have to take in to account that DUST isn't, and can't be just a supportive game, it has to be a game that draws players in it's own right.

That means that the gameplay can't rely heavily on EVE-online. The players have to be able to be able to have ease of access to fighting when ever they want, much like any other FPS game out there, they won't want to sit and wait for someone to haul them. They will hit join server and get to killing.

They neither can be dependable on gun or ammo, or air support stuff from EVE online, not only is it way too undependable in the scale that EVE is, but it's also butt ass boring for DUST players.

I say DUST will be DUST, an FPS, and EVE-online will be EVE-online, an spaceflying MMO. So lets not wet our panties here. Too much expectations is only going to let you down in the end.

I assume they are using the Trinity2 engine in Dust 514 as well.

As someone who've been experimenting with various 3D and game engines quite a bit, I can tell you... you can change from a FPS shooter to a Space Sim by the flip of a switch in such engines, no problem at all. So yeah, integrating FPS fights on ground within a Space Sim is entirely possible without any more work than you'd have with any other major upgrade/expansion in eve.
