Noob 10 days into EVE.

When I started this game the character creation process was completely different to all the guides I had read beforehand. I understand there has been changes to the process and most of the guides are 2+ years old. But I am confused about a number of things and wonder if I made mistakes or missed something initially.

1. I keep reading in quite recent threads talk of starting with 800,000 SP - I started with nothing like that - 100,000 at best, now after 10 days I am on 650,000 odd (and I have been in constant training concentrating on a few basics and my learning skills). So can someone explain this - is it a second character bonus or something?

2. Remapping attributes - I read talk of 15/9/5/5/5 which adds up to a total of 39 points in attributes - but I have only got a total of 35. When I first looked in the remap window, I saw each attribute's basic section had 7 points in it, 4 were coloured white and 3 were coloured green, implying that I could remap the green ones, but upon trying to I found that I could only remove a maximum of 2 of the green ones from any one attribute, meaning I could only lower any one to 5 - which seems correct so I assume that is just a display error, but where are my other 4 missing points, the best I could remap to is 15/5/5/5/5 or 11/9/5/5/5. Are these added at a later stage of the game?

Thanks in advance.

1) Characters used to start with approximately 800k sp, but due to the fact that a lot of chars ended up with skills that weren't of any use for them.

2) This I have no idea about, if you really only do have 35 points instead of 39 I'd petition it.

A while back your bloodline and ancestry was used to determine what attributes you got, now I believe everyone starts with the same attributes, which should be 7 charisma, 8 intelligence, 8 memory, 8 perception, 8 wisdom.

Also a while back you could choose a career and specialty which would start you with 800,000 sp towards skills that you would expect for that. Such as a Industry career with a Prospecting specalty would have 800,000 sp towards mining and refining.

And unfortunately now we are forced to play the "month wait for learning skills" game.

*sighs* I'd pay cash out of pocket just to start a character like the old day. Sucks now, but what can you do bout it? CCP ignores 9/10ths of posts about skills.

You can pay cash out of your pocket to buy GTC's, which you can sell for ISK. With said ISK, you can buy a character off of the character bazaar, and your problem is solved.

Yeah, you're right, having a 100% bonus to training speed to knock those learning skills out in half the time really does suck Rolling Eyes

Don't forget that you only ever started with one learning skill at 4 and one at 2, which really doesn't save you much time at all compared to the current system. Plus you get two attribute respecs, so you can go Mem/Int for the first few weeks, bash out your learnings in double-quick time, and still be able to respec to whatever stats you want without having to pick your bloodline based on what you want to do.

That was pre-Apocrypha expansion. Now everyone starts with an attribute of 8 in everything except 7 charisma, and the following skills, a well as a 100% training rate bonus until 1.6 million SP:

Electronics 3 (8,000)
Engineering 3 (8,000)
Shield Operation 2 (1,415)
Gunnery 2 (1,415)
Small <Racial> Turret 3 (8,000)
Mining 2 (1,415)
Mechanic 2 (1,415)
Navigation 3 (8,000)
Science 3 (8,000)
Spaceship Command 3 (8,000)
<Racial> Frigate 2 (2,829)

Total = 8,000 * 6 + 1,415 * 4 + 2,829 = 56,489

You should have 39 from day 1: 8 int + 8 mem + 8 per + 8 wil + 7 cha = 39

Anything less is suspicious, and I'd petition it.

It'd be nice if there were more variation in the starting skills, now everyone automatically gets Engineering 3 and Electronics 3 so that's +15% CPU and Power grid for everyone. Kinda makes the base numbers for all ships a little pointless.

Yup! Another nice change about all this is that everyone starts with Science III, which makes plugging in +3 implants an absolute breeze (well, skill-wise... money-wise is still the issue).
