so no orbital bombardment, what if we could sneak a stealth bomber into a battlefield, uncloak, and launch a bomb....

back to the PC version me thinks once the console version flops due to lack of eve player support and pc players unable to get into it that they will bring out a PC fps version to boost numbers, is the way i see it goin

If a PC version does come out (fingers crossed for it), then I suspect we could see a significant influx of ex-Planetside players. Planetside obviously had a market for a significant period of time, if Dust can provide the gameplay, background and environment people are looking for, there is definate room for success on the PC. Good odds tbh.

If DUST 514 becomes more of a "HALO Online" MMO sort of thing, I will play it.

Heck I need an FPS anyway, people are making fun of me because I still play COD2.

I don't there will be a lack of EVE player support. Furthermore, I suspect you will find that a disturbingly large percentage of EVE players have a "gasp" console lurking around the house somewhere. Granted, it may have supposedly been purchased for the kids or siblings, but it will undoubtedly be put to more important use. Laughing

some news to add to the pile:

According to Noah, they are simplifying the way in which you claim space and attack people, and they are also letting alliances upgrade their space and invest in it.

Planet graphics are being revamped so each planet will be unique and truly beautiful

Waiting patiently for more news about dust and the sov mechanic changes. If alliances could be their own entity then it will produce a lot stronger alliances, at the moment they're just a collection of corps with one of them using their own wallet divisions to pay the bills.

Anyway, on with the show if Dust is any good I may have to bite the bullet and buy a tv and xbox to play it. It'll be the only way I involve myself with 0.0 politics :D

Brilliant idea, it has great potential.. But console only? I really hate fps with gamepads, it sucks. Mouse and keyboard ftw every time...

Also a downer for those that want to play both games but don't already have a console, they're expected not only to pay two subscriptions but also to purchase two game systems? What happens when the next round of consoles appear? Are CCP going to release a new version of Dust514 and have everyone go out and buy it?

I was really hoping I could play both on my PC tbh, I had visions of being in space and having an alliance CTA go out that we need to defend or attack a planet, not to bash PoS but to switch games and go play fps for a bit. That would be very cool.

Many console games are already compatible to each next console generation, so nothing to worry about

gamereactor.eu upped another dust interview as of 18.09.09:

Linkage

some keynotes:

A mixture of procudural technology and designed content will be used to create unique battlefields for each dust514-planet

Will dust514 only happen in 0.0, or will we also fight
over low sec or planets like amarr prime?
were still internally deabting how far we will push dust 514

what about the criticisms from players about Dust?
At the fanfest, when we release extended info about dust, players will feel confidable that dust will be the right thing for eve

The style of each race will be given relevance on the planets as well.

The core focus for dust is to make a good online shooter, but we might add things that you can do as a single player; for example things for training purposes and stuff like that

TBH, i hope CCP have contacted microsoft regarding "constant updates" microsoft have limitations on size of updates, and cost - UT3 for instance on the PC/PS3 have far surpassed what is available on the xbox because microsoft will not allow them to publish a patch over 250mb and UT3 Black was about a 1-2gb upgrade iirc

COD4/5 have patches that are free on pc and PS3, they are all pay to download on the xbox... wether this is by choice or activision taking advantage i dont know but meh

ill definately buy it but im thinking a ps3 may be needed to get a more open platform for this specific game... rather have it for pc tbh though....

Bild made claims of a single player campaign existing for Dust. I stated above that I believe there is a good market for a PC version of Dust, were it to be released on that platform. What are you reading that I didn't write?

Don't know if anyone has hypothesized this yet.

What if the fact that they are not releasing a DUST 514 PC port is that EVE itself is the DUST client? Think about it. EVE and DUST are going to be interacting with each other. What if you just make a DUST clone in character creation instead of a POD clone?

Nah, that's just a bit too wild. Very Happy

While obviously Encarna will be built directly into our clients, I can't see walking in stations as requiring the same level of optimization as a first person shooter. It would be interesting to find out what the similarities in the engines are though. Blog?

Could be the reason why WiS is taking so long. They may be making the engine to handle both at the same time. I know it seems far fetched, but then when i see cryptic doing pretty much the same thing with their engine for Star Trek it makes me wonder...

Just sorta public thinking out loud... :)

I think that was pretty much confirmed when they did a blog saying that they will develop core coding to have several uses. It makes sense and it means more for EVE players than they would otherwise get. In fact I doubt WIS would have been even thought of if only the EVE dev budget was available, especially with all the other expansions needed too. The problem though is that it means the timing of WIS is dependant on the code being developed for another game.

From the single trailer we've seen already, it looks like Dust 514 will be using the Unreal 3 graphics engine - sorry.
