GREAT Post!

I'm excited about it. That's all there is to it. I'll definitely buy a console for this.

Whats also noteable from the latest interview, is that fighting can occur only on those planets which have proper conditions.

Gas-Planets e.g. cant be subjects to battlegrounds.

There it might be the possibility, that certain solar systems can only be taken by fleets, where there are no suitable ground combat planets, and in other systems there would be more focused on ground battles.

sounds interesting.,

ok i had to add this to the original post:

Most Planets (gas giants, lava planets, barren planets) are not suited for human presence, those WONT be battlegrounds, says Petursson.

So maybe we will see systems where SOV is ONLY decided by fleets (lack of dust planets), where other systems are a mixture between fleets + dust.

It could be possible for some systems that you can have the souvereignity of a planet solely by fleet superiority, and still interact with that planet in a beneficial way.

Not disputing what was said, just the reasoning behind it. Some of our ships are a mile long, and can turn on a dime and travel faster than light on some magical "energy" in our capacitors, and they've not figured out how to make floating cities for gas giants with artificial gravity?

Lol, ok

Besides, a POS/station/enclosed envronments are good for FPS, as they don't have artificial barriers. But ... whatever :)

well ok but this howeever, leads to the only possible conclusion: its that EVERY planet in 0.0 can be claimed for souvereignity. BUT, not every planet can be claimed by Troop soldiers.

This now sounds alot more interesting than dust sounded at the day when they announced it.

I hope you DO realize and grasp the TRUE potential that lies within dust now:

Souvereignity-Battles will be multi-staged, and every single of them will be completely different than the other.

First off: There will be planets with less sectors than others.

Secondly: There will be planets where ground troups cannot be deployed.

Thirdly: Some systems have more planets than the others.

Fourth: The fightings over ONE single planet within a system can already be epic; not to speak about the whole system.

AND THEN, maybe THEN one alliance can even THINK of conquering a whole constellation, not talking about regions even........ ShockedShockedShockedShockedShockedShockedShockedShocked

I foresee HUUUGEEE conflicts that last for MONTHS, with a huge lot of separate Fleet fightings

This is simply a work of art of a thread! Excellent work! All the anti-CONSOLE DUST cry babies need to focus on the concept of just how important the EVE Corp. structure will be to DUST engagements. Think about being in conference, probably via WIS, with DUST Commanders in coordinating strategic assaults/defense planet side (of the DIRECT significance you will have in that regard).

When you whiners finally get past your emo/shock, you may finally see the wonderful potential being dropped at your feet (you control the purse strings and it is you who hire the MERCs/PMCs)! PC events are, thus, still placed above console ones-lolLaughing So, rejoice, and chill.Wink

Then try to imagine dedicated EVE-groups of player owning PC+console fighting against random groups of Joe Shooter who just wants to have 10min of fun.
Now guess the outcome.....
And once Joe Shooter realizes that he has to fight this organized groups in DUST, and he looses 9 out of 10 times, how often do you think he will come back?
Yes...shooter kids and grown ups like to win.

Whats left then, after a few months, is just dedicated groups of EVE players who own both PC+console who loggin to capture the planet once they need it.
And then you have your 2 class player community, the once enjoying the full game and the once who don't.

And if you think this wont happen, maybe you dont know as much about EVE as you think (metagaming is king here, so if there is an advantage to gain, it will be done).

New thought. With this game we can no longer refer to EVE as just a Space Game or a Space MMO, this is now a Universe unto itself full of Lore and a multitude of experiences.
…which has been a vision CCP has presented for quite some while now: EVE is not just Internet Spaceships™ — it's a SciFi sim.

Yes, and I always liked that, the vision that one day we, the EVE players, could walk in stations, have planetary interaction, and all that awesome stuff ...

Guess not.

How good of a 'simulation' would it be if the guys who fly the spaceships from goo filled pods, were ALSO the hardened ground troops? It makes sense to me, from an overall 'sci-fi sim' perspective, that they should be completely different characters, and in most instances, would cater to a completely different gaming audience.

I don't see how that would immersively depict how engagements tend to play themselves out. Why would pilots be asked/forced to abandon ships worth millions/several billions of ISK to fight planet side? It's like forcing/requesting USAF pilots to land and, then, engage the Iraqi military in ground engagements. In stations, maybe, since pilots dock there, but, really, how could you justify being able to have the required number of infantry forces coming from the ranks of EVE Pod Gods? Who'd be, simultaneously, fighting the Fleet battles?

Sorry, but that would be utter chaos, unorganized, tactically unsound and not very immersive, IMO.

EDIT: After rereading your reply, it appears that we may be agreeing? If so, my apologies.

You are assuming that these EVE players are mostly skilled FPS; you also assume that it will be CHILD FPS lovers who'll be the ones most representative of those interested in DUST, that DUST will not attract a console equivalent to EVEs popularity, that adult console players (I am 46, do not like being pwned by my 10 year old children/nephew, love FPS and EVE, among other things) will not be the ones most interested, and that the game will fade into oblivion several months later. SOCOM (though TPS), Killzone 2, COD4 and Halo are all still popular, and none of these offers the added perk of MMO, persistent world content complete w/ interaction into a complete universe of gaming.

What will be left, at the least, will be DUSTIES (like me) logging in.

What I do know about is the console gaming community, the one at which CCP is aiming.

I doubt very seriously if the average, spoiled by CCP and very ungrateful EVE whiner would play DUST for as long as some people believe. It is not as easy to play FPS, if you lack the experience, as your reply seems to imply. The pwnage will be to Pod Jockies thinking otherwise. You can't simply align/warp out when the going gets rough up close an' personal. You think you've seen emo; you haven't seen the emo that would arrise as a result of the disastrous engagements awaiting those foolish enough to enter ground PVP like just another FLEET WAR DEC.

It may be simply that it is easier to do WIS and DUST separately before ultimately integrating them. Either is a massive project in alone. We don't want to kill the Devs.-they are people too-lol
