I am just starting EVE and am totally lost. I wanted to read the new player guide mentioned in the forum, but the link doesn't work. Can anyone point me at somewhere else to get it or a similar guide? What I am looking for is character creation and basic controls and settings. I played with EVE a bit earlier and was basically overwhelmed. It looks like fun, but for a newbie is a bit daunting. Any help appreciated.Question

This is a true thing that you say - I couldn't find one when I started either. I reckon I'll have a bash at a simple guide tomorrow.

In the mean time, there is a fair bit of useful stuff over at - or you can trawl the forums here.

Regarding character creation - the most important thing to know is that your stats decide only one thing: how fast you learn skills. So skills based on Memory will train faster if you have high memory.

On Eve-i you'll find a list of the skills in the Object Explorer. Each one has two stats relevant to it, but the primary stat is the one you're most interested in. You should be able to get a sense of which stats you'll want by looking at what the different classes of skills need.

At the moment, Charisma is pretty useless, and I think Intelligence and Memory are the favourites. Having said that, I have a mass Charisma. :/

After you've created your character, talk to your agent (in the station, over to the right of the screen). They run you through some tutorial missions which are fairly good to get you started. Most of your flying around can be done by right-clicking on empty space, and selecting a destination.

I'll post some extra stuff in about 18 hours, and I'm sure other folk will be happy to help if you ask.

I changed my mind about writing a manual, 'cause pretty much everything I wanted to say is here.

It takes a while to read through, but it's tres buff!
