Hi all. What should hopefully be a quick question. Various Amarr cruisers, such as the Maller, have this listed in their ship bonuses section: "10% bonus to Medium Energy Turret capacitor use per level"

Shouldn't that be listed as a Penalty?

its a bonus, at lvl 5 your lasers use 50% less capacitor

Ah. Thats all good then. When I first glanced at it I assumed that'd be it but thought I'd query it, since the way it's written rather ambiguously.

I had the same problem when i started to train Amarr.

Should be corrected to -10%

Logic will pretty much win the day in these matters.
Yes, resist bonii says "-50%" to the resist. Does a module that reduces resists as its only function make sense? No. You have your answer.

No. You're confusing "bonus" with "increse" and "penalty" with "reduction", which in and of itself isn't so odd since the stats in most games follow a "more is better" kind of logic.

A bonus is simply something that makes things better. The word itself means "a good thing". Likewise, a penalty is a bad thing. What good and bad equates in terms of pure numbers will depend on what those numbers actually mean and do. For instance, high capacitor use is a bad thing; low cap use is good. A bonus to cap use therefore means lowering it and a penalty to cap use means an increase.

Sure, it could probably be made clearer as to how actually works if they said "10% reduction" instead of "10% bonus" in that case, but on the other hand, that would mean going through all modifiers and figuring out which is better worse — more or less… Just calling the good modifiers "bonus" and the bad ones "penalties" simplifies that part a bit.

Are there any ships in-game that have actual penalties in their stats? Like extra capacitor use or something? I'm thinking if there are, it'd be in the Role Bonus section. But are there any?

Yes, destroyers. They get a role "bonus" that reduces turret rof (in compensation for having lots of turrets).

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the destroyers with their rate-of-fire penalty — it is even described using that exact word in the description.

It gets really interesting with things such as rigs, though, since they tend to offer a penalty that is reduced (but never entirely removed) by the appropriate skills… of course, they chickened out about that one and just called them "drawbacks" Razz
