In the essentials its a very simple idea that I've cooked up. Similar to the booster injectors we can use to increase capcitor levels we should be able to control our reactor in a more personal way, adding options to our playstyle. The fuel rod idea comes from the Skill booster drugs which it mimics so it in essentials modfy some parts of the reaction occuring inside the capacitor.
Fuel Rods can be inserted into the reactor to increase the capcaitors recharge rate over a short duration or increase the amout of power it can store by modifying the molucular substance inside the reactor. There would be ups and downs in this for balance. If you inject fuel rods, you emmit a larger signature and thus become easyer to lock on to or maintaining lock on.
The turbo charger works much in the same way but with diffrent penalitys. By diverting flow from shields and prepulsion to the capacitor it recharges very rapidly but as a result you slow down and your shields no longer naturely recharge. This could be used just like a module which cycle and skill reduction etc.
Cooling modules is outfitted like a module or rig which allows you to control coolnt pumps in your ship. You can direct it to your weapons, your shields or anything else allowing you to change to your enviorment or an evolving combat situation. This would come with various penalitys as well, from damage to your ships hull, increased signature radious, module disfunction and prepulsion stoppage.
Maybe this already exisits, havent cheked into it.
