Wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave after wave of battleships, each battleship taking about 10 mins to destroy. What's the point of making people spend 4 hours on mind numbing, boring, boring meaningless tasks?

Sure, but then they'll cut down on the rewards as well so in the end, you'll have to spend the same amount of mind-numbing, boring, repetetive mission grinding to make the same amount of cash… |

This, really. How on earth is it taking 10 minutes? EDIT: That magical skill improvement is called "training". It takes what we in the trade call "time", and it's what you need a lot of in EVE. |

You're doing it wrong. I'm not sure your skills even can be so bad it takes 10mins to kill a mission battleship. Unless you fly a frigate or something with horribly low DPS. |

stop using a drake, get a battleship.

team up with someone who can do more than 200dps while you tank. |

Your skills suck then. My alt in a nighthawk takes less than a minute to down most battleships. This is from Sansha, to Angels, to Gurista, to Serpentis. |

Well, the reason its taking you so long is really that you're not putting out enough damage. I reiterate: use ballistic control systems to up your damage significantly, or just use a BS, that will tank well enough while easily putting out twice the DPS you are now.
Your problem is that you aren't beating NPC tanks by enough to wear them down.
Say you're doing 140 damage to an NPC bs with a 100dps tank. now take someone doing 180DPS to the same enemy: he'll down it twice as fast; 220 dps? 3x as fast as you're going at the moment,
A decent marauder at 800 DPS will take maybe 30 seconds to down the toughest NPC BS, at that point you're just wishing there were situations that presented you with them at a faster rate than lvl4 missions to grind your way through the isk being thrown at you. Can't think of any mission that takes more than 45 mins at that point except due to long travel times (I'm looking at you WC).
P.S.: I guessed you were flying a drake because it was the only ship I could think of which would let a pilot of low skill and inventiveness survive a LVL4 at all, while fitting the rest of the criteria you presented i.e. low damage output. |

CCP aren't 'making you spend' 4 hours running L4s with insufficient skill points. You're choosing to do that yourself. Fly missions that best suit your current skill points.
Being able to access L4s doesn't automatically make them worthwhile. You'll make far more isk blitzing good quality L3s than you will taking 10 mins per battleship. In the mean time, train the skills you need to make a L4 work for you, just like everyone other mission runner does. |

Oh... I'm sorry, did I say 500 DPS ? I was wrong. It's 573 DPS (click me) at 70 km.So... yeah. Your skills/fit suck. P.S. That 840 defence rating is against typical Guristas incoming damage, switch hardeners as necessary. |

No, eh does not need a damn raven, Drake does just fine (and it takes out cruisers/frigates faster and cheaper). Get proper skills or don't cry.

This is nothing to do with being competitive. Everyone starts from ground floor. And after so long, everyone will have similar SP in certain areas. Skills onl;y go up to 5, and beyond that the "High SP Chars" have to spec into either something else completely or just spend time training things they might try at some point down the line. EDIT: Also, you are not trying to compete with anyone, you are trying to bite off more than you can chew. |
