I'm playing EVE for about three weeks, and I'm having this issue in the past 48 hours or so.
I opened a petition on Tech Support, and was not replied. It didn't seem right - I was told CCP always replies quickly to petitions, but then I found this thread...

As with most of you, I am having no other internet application disconnecting.
EVE disconnections are so frequent that I can barely set my training queue. Connection lasts from few minutes to few seconds.

I am extremely disappointed.

CCP finally answered on the other thread... We must show them we are enough to have this issue...

Install SISI if you haven't already... and follow their request, so we can finally end this shłtty bug.

Just thought I'd add to this.

The first time I ever got these crashes/socket closed issues was after my return to EVE roughly a month ago.
Since then it happened every once in a while, sometimes one or two times a day.

But today it happened three times in fifteen minutes, so I'm really beginning to wonder what is going on there, and any solution or at least identification of the problem would be very welcome.

If it is in fact my ISP or faulty routers somewhere along the road, I'd like to at least have this confirmed so I can try to do something about it.

Meh, socket errors are still consistent..

Just now it took me 3 logins to get into the station.. then it drops in a minute of inactivity.

Sigh..

I have mine resolved. It was my ISP.

As I said before, I only started having this issue about a week ago. There is thankfully a fellow EVE player on staff at my ISP who noticed the issue, started talking in-house, and found that their Net Enforcer server (that prioritises traffic) had been hit with the nerf bat. Steam and torrents were also affected. Putting the Net Enforcer back to a previous config has apparently remedied the issue.

I haven't tested it personally yet as I'm travelling and on a different ISP. There is no "socket closed" or lag issue with this different ISP, by the by, so that firmly shows my issues at least are/were ISP-based. (Also, PingPlotter betrayed no hint of any ISP-based issues - there was no apparent packet loss at the ISP hops.)

This is NOT to say that everyone's issues have the same cause. I am no position at all to speak about that, and there has been at least one post here by someone who tried a different ISP with no joy. However, this is info for those of you who might like to query your ISP on their Net Enforcer protocols. (Please don't ask me for further details about the Net Server stuff as I'm not a techie and I have no further info about the before/after configs - I'm just passing on info.)

Best of luck with this, y'all.

I installed Network Probe 3.0 so I could watch the traffic loads. And of course, after I installed it, I haven't had any socket closed crashes. I don't know if it's just coincidence or what. I'm tempted to uninstall it just to see if eve crashes.

Same issue has been happening to me today. It's been happening on/off for a while now but today is just shocking with it happening about 8 times so far.

I want to play this game, not have to log into the test client and hope it happens again while I know it's happening on the production server.

From reading this thread most folks have the problem sporadically. For two days I've had the problem consistently. I just can not log in. I get the socket closed message. This is the first time I've ever had a problem logging in to EVE in nearly 2 years.

Appreciate any suggestions from folks. Here's the description from my bug report so that folks don't suggest things I've already tried:

I can not log in to EVE at all. The problem started two nights ago. I always get the message "socket closed" error. I hooked up my old computer and got the same problem.

I can access the web, get my email, listen to my friends on vent, see the server, server status and number of folks logged into the game all without a hitch.

Nothing has changed but the ability to log on to EVE for 2 days straight. When I try to log in, the authenticating bar just crawls slowly to the end and I get the "socket" message.

Things I've tried:
1) Ensured that EVE was on my virus protection "allowed" list. Even disabled the firewall. I use BitDefender.
2) Turned off and unplugged my router from power several times.
3) Deleted my cache and settings folder on my comp.
4) Reset my winsock per instructions in one of the help threads.
5) Uninstalled EVE and did a fresh install.

and finally I did the hardest thing...

6) I tried repenting for all the pods I've popped.

Nothing seems to change the fact that I can't play this lovely game any more.

My skill finished tonight. Care to switch it to Thermodynamics V for me? :)

Actually, allow me to amend my previous statement. Things are worse now then they were before. I think I get maybe 3 minutes of usable game time after station environment loads before my client looses sync.

Notice how the staff dissapears from the thread as soon as useful information starts appearing? Rolling Eyes Excellent quality control CCP. I too have been getting significant amounts of disconnects, but never have the problem with other games. I have tried different computers, different routers, but nothing helps. I did notice that alt-tabbing and web browsing seems to increase the problem, but it does still happen even if I'm not tabbing out and have no browser running.

try to download some stuff while 'trying-to-play-this-unplayable-game'
like with 1/2 of your bandwidth or more... you'll see what 'socket closed' issue is gonna do to you.
