How do you guys handle moving around a probing ship and a combat ship? I really want to duct tape my Buzzard to my Drake or Raven. I don't expect to be able to do both well in a single ship, the trouble is moving 2 ships around for dozens of jumps looking for stuff is really time consuming for a single pilot.

I've considered just putting the probe launcher on my combat ship (there are certainly slots for it), but obviously I won't be getting any bonuses. Might as well pack up the CovOps. Sad Crying or Very sad

One thing you could do is use an Orca. What I'm planning to do once I have the skills is to run around in an Orca with a small POS and some fuel. Set up base in a wormhole system, and use the ship bay to house a covops and a battlecruiser (or maybe a covops, HAC and hulk). I'll park another character on my same account in the system, so that if the wormhole closes when I'm outside, I can use the secondary character to probe down the new exit.

That's a bit of a gamble though. 450m plus fittings, whatever is in your hanger, etc. Could be close to 750m. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it (I might) but I would give it a try in the full expectation that I'll lose the lot (be happy when I don't, if you see what I mean).

At the beginning of the upgrade I had an Orca loaded up and ready to go. Rigged Hulk, HAC, Cov Ops, salvage destroyer, and AF. Plus extra mods, a POS, and about 10 days of fuel. I figured to find a hole that would fit my Orca, and setup shop refining ore and working sites. I have nixed this plan. For one, even with me in a HAC and my alt in a AF, I still can only work the easier systems solo. These systems do not seem to have enough of the better ore to justify the POS. Plus, you have to find a wormhole that will take the Orca. Seems to me that a POS is mostly for convenience. Given the effort and ISK to keep it fueled and working it just doesn’t seem worth it when compared to spending that time and effort just working sites in unknown systems and carrying it all out.

I work the cosmics, radar, mag, and ladar sites in unknown systems. I do my initial scanning in a Cov Ops, with the increased strength shortening how long it takes to ID sites. Then I come back in whatever I need, along with my alt. The combinations are BC/AF (and then leave and come back to salvage), or BC/salvager, or gas harvester/hauler.

I might use an Orca as a mobile explore base, carrying rigged BC, AF, and salvager, with the alt in a hauler. Keep the Orca in high sec, but explore in both high and low sec. Move the Orca to a system, explore within 4 jumps, and then move the whole party to a new base.

The other thing to do is scan with my BC, with my alt in a salvager that includes analyzer and codebreaker.
