Ok, let's hear what you all you think the future has in holds for us. Say in like 40-50 years or so. And please don't say CCP will release Kali patch. Wink

Personally I imagine we will have working medicine against diabetes and weight problems. I also believe we will be able to cure most virus diseases and also most forms of cancer.

Our cars will run on electricity and we will have autopilot on most highways. They will also not be able to go faster than the current speed limit.

I have a really hard time to imagine what computers might be like then. I expect some drastic changes in their architecture though. Maybe even a CTX standard. Very Happy

It would be cool if we by then had the ability to control our computers using only our brain. So that keyboards and mice are obsolete. Maybe even some expansion memory for our brain?

With a little bit of luck we'll also see Duke Nukem forever in that timeframe.

So, please post your predictions here and let's hope this forum is still here in 40 years so we can see who were right. Very Happy

Great - Does this mean I can start smoking again? Very Happy

Although, even if they do manage to cure cancer - none of us will be able to afford the treatment anyway, so we're still shafted. Sad

P.S. Read 'Earth' by David Brin, that's set 'fifty years after tomorrow'....

Gridlock worldwide, most of us will be dead through starvation, there will be lots of small scale wars using biological and chemical weapons, mutated religious lunatics will be killing people left, right and centre, all domestic animals will have turned on us and be on the rampage, there will be no trees left so we will all be reading newspapers on slate, lack of oil will mean no more plastics so our tv's and laptops will be made of clay etc.....

OR

We will live in global union and everyone will be happy, no more wars, people of every religion standing side by side and plenty of nice food to eat.

OR

Who cares as I will almost certainly be dead by then.

In fifty years time, things could be pretty scary, what with global warming, peak oil, and total information awareness.

BT have this great whitepaper where they predict future technologies and when they will be available. It's really a blast to read the more innovative suggestions such as "VR escapism is a major social problem" that apparantly will occur sometime around 2015 (I guess they haven't spent much time on the MMORPG scene. Very Happy), or the "Orgasmatron" which will be available in a shop near you in about eight years.

50 years from now the polar icecaps will have melted causing a massive shrinkage of available land and global climate change. The only good news will be that the rising of the oceans leaves the middle east under several miles of seawater, leaving nothing left to war over.

Given the rise of the oceans and the loss of dry land, mankind will begin developing full scale cities under the ocean. Mars colonization will have already begun, though at a slow pace.

Duke Nuke 'em Forever will finally be completed and released. But by then, any fan base that was left waiting for the game will have already died of old age.Laughing

And I will have finally podded my first victim.

ugh

Some guesses/predictions/whatever :

* Mining on the moon will start. To make it still look good, they will only mine on the part of the moon that we can't see (this is also because the parts of the moon that you can buy are all on the side that you can see, leaving only the parts you can't see for mining). This will adjust the weight towards earth, and after some heavy mining the moon will fall down on earth due to the change in weightpoint. This will make ppl kinda upset. I'm not sure about exactly when. The mining could start within 50 years, but it'll prolly take like 1000 years before the moon falls down.

* USA will fall apart within 25 years from now.

* A primitive version of an engine that powers itself will be built, and some physics laws have to be rewritten.

* A very big meteorite almost hits earth, but misses and heads for the sun. This will cause some very interesting phenomenons, causing a lot of problems for computer owners and electricity companies.

* A japanese president will be found eating gummi bears at a very inappropriate time.

* Construction of a spaceship that can travel almost as fast as light starts at NASA, but the project is cancelled when USA falls apart.

* Television is greatly improved somehow, unclear how.

Note that I don't really know how the government and leadership and stuff in japan is constructed, so I chose the word "president" as I lacked any better word. Just substitute this with whatever the "highest leader" in Japan is called.

Also note that there is a slight chance that I'm confusing Japan with China here, so it might be whoever is the highest leader in China.

Just wanted to point that out - we don't want to make bad predictions, do we? Razz

Within the next 40 years, the oil supply in the Middle Eastern nations will start to dry up. The countries will begin fighting amongst themselves for the last remaining oil fields, but will be futile in the end as it all drys up. This will lead to an economic wasteland of once great nations. With no more oil, foreign countries will pull out their assets from the region, leaving the countries to fend for themselves. Muslim terrorists, having "won" by removing Western influence in their homeland, will cease their attacks. However, they will soon realize how dependent their were on Western nations all along and start begging for aid, only to fall on deaf ears. The Middle East turns into a cluster of Third World nations. The rest of the world will suffer from another great depression. Many cheaper and safer alternative fuels and energies have been available for years, but due to the overdependence of oil, they have been underdeveloped and were not ready for the sudden loss. Within 10 years, the alternatives are abundant enough and pull the world out of depression, but has some costs.

In 50 years from now, just after the energy crisis, the People's Republic of China will experience a civil war between the hardliners and the reformists resulting in many casualties. The United Nations will cry for a peaceful resolve and debate possible action, but due to their undecisiveness, they will accomplish nothing and become another League of Nations, slowly disbanding as nations start abandoning it. The United States will retain an official neutral stance towards the conflict, while secretly supplying arms and special forces to the reformists. The world is shocked to hear of an intercepted shipment of weapons of mass destruction from the United States to the reformist faction. The people in the United States have mixed reactions over the corruption of the President, who has chosen to ignore the people for his own personal gain. In 2064, the US military lays siege to Washington D.C., killing the president in the process and establishes a military rule over the nation, establishes martial law, and becomes isolationist. Meanwhile, the reformists and the communists eventually agree to a cease fire, coming to a compromise of having a Socialist country with more personal liberties than before. China replaces the United States as the world's superpower.

1. We still won't have flying cars. It's 2000, where the hell are my flying cars, you freaking scientists?

2. We still won't have colonized anything in space.

3. With the above in mind, we'll still have doomsday nutcases screaming about how an asteroid is going to kill us all. Yes, at some point, it might happen. Will it happen tomorrow? No. Check again next week.

4. We still won't have a clue about global warming, other than the reports of psuedo-science.

5. Microsoft's Windows 2050 will require a minimum of five hundred and twelve terabytes of RAM.

6. Linux zealots will still insist Linux is the solution for everything, even though everyone's already familiar with and satisified with Microsoft products for the majority of their tasks. Linux zealots will also still be crusading for gaming houses to release their games on the penguin.

7. Goths will still be amusing. Not tragically amusing, oh no, just amusing.

8. Shiva will be released in early September of 2043. Players will complain about what Caldari ships look like on the forums. The developers will use new neural-link technology to wipe the minds of the complainers and reprogram them into carebears.

9. The 2048 Olympic Games will expand such "sports" as ping pong and synchronized diving to include stair climbing, synchronized lounging and the three hundred meter brisk walk. Exercise of the great guns will still remain outside the realm of the Olympic games, even though everyone knows that shooting a long nine would take a hell of a lot more effort than synchronized diving. Synchronized diving, what the hell is that?

10. Hollywood will continue to make mockeries out of classic movies by 'improving' them with horribly untalented directors and actors.

Might aswell add my predictions for the future.

Well, In 40 years we will have flying cars and we will eat pills for dinner, we will have alien like pets, and everyone will be very happy... ok maybe not.

Though I'm fairly certain that I will rule the world at some point.

And I will get my first eve pvp kill in June 2047.
