A corp mate recently mentioned that even if your ship was aggroed after you logged off you would still get an aggro timer of 15 minutes. I could not believe it and tried it.

- Ship A locked ship B without activating a module
- Pilot of ship B logged off
- Ship A pointed ship B
- Ship B stayed in position even after releasing the point!!

As it was already late I just waited for 2 minutes before heading home and logging out myself, but the ship did not disappear during that time. I'll make another test run tonight to be sure.

That was not in the patch notes, was it?

Anyway, thanks CCP! Very Happy

If this is indeed true, it's another exploit hole closed. Might lead to a few people dying due to network problems, but anyone used to Factional Warfare will be used to that by now.

Last logoffski I encountered was before QR. The freighter uncloaked at the gate and while tackled still disappeared into thin air after 30 seconds.

The only ones who could prove you wrong are CCP, but they like mysteries and sweet surprises.Smile

As far as I know, logging off without PvP aggression still only leaves ship in space for 1 minute, whereas aggression extends this to 15 minutes.
I have not seen anything that contradicts this post Apo patch.

What you did was scramble the target so the e-Warp never occurred. Test it again and make sure the target does not have any aggression of any kind and time the duration before the ship disappears.

I seriously doubt that CCP would remove the only safeguard there is to bad connections.

I activated my point on him just after he had logged off (gang icon on overview disappeared). Usually he should have vanished right there.

I'll try the same tonight with logging off under gate cloak and see if it has the same effect.

I was out in a gang last week (19th March - 2 days after Apocrypha 1.01 was deployed i.e. very latest build as of today 24th March) and we agressed an Abaddon near a gate "somewhere in 0.0". He went back to the gate and jumped through (thus changing his session and resetting his agression timer). He then immediately logged off, before he uncloaked. Immediately as he decloaked we tackled him, he then he disappeared in front of our eyes when in around 2/3 armor approx. 30 seconds later. He then logged back in and insta-logged off, thus making the 1,000,000km emergency warp, taking his return point off grid from the original engagement.

Sneaky tactic and it is unfortunate that CCP need to "fix" this - when in fact it is going to end up also harming people who innocently lose connection.

Anyone with an extended probe launcher would have needed less than 30 seconds to scan him down after that..

Wrong..
No more details as this tactic doesnt need to be passed around for any pvp noob to use.

Bah, probing mission runners is faster now but everything else probe-wise takes MUCH longer.

If the loggoffski loophole has been closed this is indeed a great day for pvp!

It hasn't been closed sadly. It really should be though.

the 2 or 3 instances where there truely is a disconnect are outweighed by the instance of logging off. Seriously, how likely is it "oh noes! I'm getting attacked! I hope my internet doesn-*CARRIER LOST*

I'd say fix it. Its unfortunate if it truely is a plane crashing into your fiber network, but 99% of the time you're probably looking at at something else...

"Hey...what in the world? I just left the bank and I'm getting mugged? That's not fair! Screw this I'm logging off!"

Personaly i think its only great idea that ccp implemented logoffski nerf. This was one of the most misused features in eve ever.

There should, however, be an active-logoff mode.

I should be able to hit this button, then sit there for a minute with a modal dialogue box in the way of me being able to do anything for a full minute, after which I should disappear from the game instantly. Maybe ewarp is initiated during this time.

This is really only usable honestly, and would be nice to know that you logged out safe, for sure. If you are sitting cloaked at a camp, they will be fully capable of tackling you out of ewarp just the same, so nothing changes.

More like "Oh noes! I'm getting attacked. I hope my client doesn't crash... oops... it did it again."

If it's only going to be of use to people who use it honestly, it's not going to stop people stooping to dodgy tactics, is it? Locks keeping the honest people out, and all that.

Having said that, since the ADSL router is sitting right there on the desk, what's to stop logoffski pilots simply pulling the plug on their ADSL? How do you know that their ADSL equipment wasn't just hit by lightning?

Actually, not everyone playing EvE are on a 100MB super-pro connection.
Expecially after a gate jump, the game needs to load more stuff than normal (unless it's cached due to the guy visiting the system earlier) and the game also seem to have something buggy about this.

As you might recall by the several threads about people affected by it, I am one of those who after Apocrypha would enter a gate and the game would disconnect me (notice: only EvE disconnected, the connection itself did not drop and I could use internet as usual).
After the disconnection, 50% of the time my character would not be able to log in again as well, till past the next downtime.

So, the safeguards are here because there's still people who need it.

Sure, the server could "count" how many subsequent disconnections happened and switch to anti-lamer mode after 2-3 (possibly legit) retries. It's not like the person can go so far in 2-3 attempts, at 1M Km at a time.

GM will replace dodgy equipment hit by lightning or credit crunch
