And why oh why did they make the ferox completely symmetrical with the Premium graphics? It's no just boring. You see what whining gets you Wink

I wish they'd change the Domi model-- it's just plain bad looking.

Maybe make more like one of the Gallent Carriers, but vertically flipped or something.

http://eve-files.com/dl/192035 vroom :)

but, seriously, what was good 5 years ago, is not as good now. some ships need face-lifting. keep the concept, but take it higher. no need for complete symmetry, but spaceships need to be balanced.

Sorry.

It took me a while to come up with that explanation, and after that I went to sleep and missed your response. In any case, I decided to take a few moments to look at the ships in question and... well, it is possible that the Catalysts thrusters could evenly apply thrust to the ship. But what about the Moa? It has four thrusters, but they're all below the bridge assembly, which is rather chunky. Chunkier than I remembered, actually, and with nothing to counter that mass. Though, to be fair, a few symmetrical ships also have that problem, just moving down-relative instead of up (the Maller and Caracal spring to mind.) It's just a vidya game in any case, and I suppose the proper response would be "So what if the Catalyst and the Moa are extremely funky looking ships. Clearly, they just need more rhinestones and disco."

Also, I should have said mass distribution last night rather than weight. I blame tiredness.

Why are we going on about this? Mostly last nights exauhsto-rant was a response to that "lol aerodynamics" comment. ... need more coffee.

I like asymetrical ships the most, Amarr ships are the only exception to that. They may not win the beauty price but are the most interesting. The best of them all is the Tempest, most badass looking ship in the game period. Just sad how the Minmatar desing moved from garbage style to bulky armor plates. Neutral

Yeap the raven is one ugly beast, also the most of the lop-sided looking ships are.

What, you guys think Caldari ships are just designed at random?

No way!

Caldari Ship Design for Dummies

1) Fill designer's rectum with ink of multiple shades of grey.
2) Have designer stand over a large piece of white paper, in a sitting position.
3) Punch designer in the stomach.

The secret behind Caldari ship design has been revealed!

I love the Caracal. She's a lean, mean, missile-slinging machine. You say weedy, I say stripped down for action.

One of the coolest looking things in the game. If there is a battlecruiser looking ship, it's Cyclone.

This. The Cyclone is the most businesslike-looking ship in the game. It says, "I am here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of bubblegum."

If they're gonna steal inspiration from B5, they could do worse than the Warlock or Victory class cap ships. I've got a soft spot for the various Narn cruisers too.

My personal "this is one fugly ship" design is the Vigil. Awesome little frig, but ouch!

I quite like the Vigil. No reason I can really put into words, it just feels right somehow.

I don't mind asymetrical ships if they indeed look like they were supposed to be asymetrical. There are far too many ships that draw a natural line right down the middle, yet the two sides are completely off balance. Gallente are especially bad at this. Thier ships are supposed to follow a more artistic design. Less hard edges and more elegant curves, etc. Instead they come off as bulbous tumors or worse.

The other complaint I have is the apparent total inefficiency of engine design on pretty much every ship. Why do ships need to have not just 15 engines, but 15 engines each of a different size? Plus, none of them would fit on any other ship. You would expect an efficent company/military to use a few interchangeable propulsion units rather than having to keep several hundred different types on hand for replacement.

As far as design in accordance with roles I think the Burst(Classic model, not the neutered "Premium" one) fills that especially well.
It looks built from the ground up with it's job as a light, fast miner as it's main design aspect, no wasted areas just good minimal design. Yes it's an "Ugly" ship but that is part of it, I think whoever made the original model got it spot on and I would like to shake their hand.

However... I do wish they would give it it's eyes back... Please?

For those not in the know:
Here It Is: The Vesuvius

Looks a bit like an Archon IMO.

And I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Machariel. I'm not sure if I'd prefer it with or without the asymmetrical auxiliary engine though.

Thanks, you just gave me something to train forQ

Don't care if it's expensive enough to be just a hangar ornament - it'd be worth it to have a Vesuvius style.

Or a Midway-class Heavy Carrier, or a Murphy-class Destroyer. Both could be in EvE, if only EA dodn't own the copyright...

Ah well, thanks for the pointer!

Meh, look at a Rokh sometime. The design just says "I'm gonna stixck it to ya" with it's nightstick design. A suprisingly symmetrical and clean design for Caldari.

lol, well if you ask me the warlock one there looks kinda like a rokh....and the victory one looks kinda like a condor....so yeah lol.

As for back at post 54 - looks kinda like a mach if you ask me o.O

I agree with yall about most gallente ships looking like tumors removed from a person, haphazardly thrown back in and removed again 5 years later...or something to that point.

Amaar ships for the most part are symmetrical...but i just dont like the whole "gold" look...

If you ask me Daedalus from stargate Sg-1 and atlantis would make a sure awesome caldari BS or BC, i mean heck! its already gunmetal grey all you have to do is paste a few red half worn off lines and a caldari logo on it and its good to go!, seriously on the show it uses railguns and missles .... how appropriate?

/me totally wants a ... (trys to think of a bird name to try and fit in with all other caldari ship names...) Flamingo :D:D:D:D (LOL)
