Greetings all

I'm Crayton the horrible from Age of Conan, there people fleed in terror when they saw any of my pvp 5 lvl chars equipped with a red skull. After kicking it at Aoc for 8 months and after 5 x 80 level chars i tought this is it, i'm probably best pvper on my server and the game got boreing after owning anything that walked my way and sure enough even small groups with my BS (btw, great game). Now, i forgot to unzip my epeen when i entered world of EVE online, and decided to attack first moveing thing i could find, this resulted me getting killed by local police...

No worries, i told my self this is just a little noob rush, i'm after all Crayton the Horrible. So i decided i need some funding and sold an GTC and bought some implants, that i have now lost ofc, again to a local officer, just could not control my trigger finger. Now i know i should go below 0.5 system, but i'm getting owned there too.

Joking and loud mouthing aside, i'm bit stuck here.

So i would need some friendly noob advice, and yes i have zipped my epeen back where it belongs.

1. Should i use rockets or light missiles as kestrel pilot?

2. What are the must have skills, i should get.

and yes, i'm sure some bright day local pilots flee in terror when they see me in local, or so i wish.

Thank YouYARRRR!!

Ok...

There are a LOT of skills you need to do well at PvP. TBH, your absolute BEST bet at not being a complete noob (and wasting a whole bunch of cash) is to find a small PvP corp that is willing to train you and run with them for a few months. No I don't know if any that wont charge you for it. EveU is also a good starting place if you really dont know anything.

Edit: Fixed a few typos, added a few more.

Way to make it no fun...

Seriously though, that wasn't a troll. You ARE going to loose a lot of ships and there is so much to learn that its going to very hard to even give you the basics on the forums.

(Well, unless fit guns and a point is the basics)

Well, i love eve since it has alot of depth to it, or so it seems. I'm going to have to be patience with this pvp thing, don't really like the skill training system here, it's the only minus i have seen so far, but can live with it.

I decided to keep trying with my kestrel, cause it costs 300k to buy and fit, so if i do the math i can die 2000 times before i need a new gtc... i have prolly learned something by then.

Single must have skill...whichever one you need to run a warp scrambler, your weapons of choice, your tank of choice and navigation skills so you can go faster and turn faster.

That is all.

This is an alt.. But I'll try shooting damn near anything that gets in range. Clones are free if you've got less than 900k skill points, so if you've got the iskies... pick a ship, pick some weapons, pick a busy lowsec near a starter hub and go to town.

You'll quickly figure out what you can kill, and what you should really avoid. As a base line tho:

a) Avoid a drone ship like the plague. They typically fit nasty light drones with damage bonuses and will chew you to pieces. (Exceptions for really young players who really don't know what they are doing)
b) If a ship's main armaments are turrets and not missles, go for it. Even if its a battleship. Unless its another frigate get in good and tight and fast and they'll have issues hitting you. (And some of the absolute lol-a-riffic fits out there, you might just kill'em dead)
c) If a ships main armaments are missles, orbit a bit wider and keep your speed up as fast as possible, you'd be surprised at just how much speed reduces the damage.
d) Once you've engaged something, don't back off. Your piloting skills may be poor, but ferocity can make up for a lot of that.
e) Shoot first, shoot more, don't stop shooting. Often the guy you've just engaged is busy filling his boot with **** and will need a few seconds to recover before doing anything. Every second you're shooting at him and he's not shooting back is free damage.
f) Watch local. If you engage someone and suddenly the numbers spike, discretion is the better part of valor, and cowardice is the better part of discretion. So you should probably valiantly GTFO before the cavalry arrives. No sense in needlessly losing your ship. (In general, you *will* lose lots of ships, but no sense in treating them like tissue paper)
g) The directional scanner is your friend. Allows you to figure out where your targets are, and when something's about to show up and bbq you. Plenty of tutorials on ye olde forums on its use.
h) Start an alt character. Train it in *boring* a race's industrial ship. Because on the path you are headed upon, you're going to need resupply somehow and highsec will quickly become an un-hospitable place for you.
i) Make some friends. Hopefully the local denizens will like you and won't blow you up summarily. Heck, join'em if you get the urge. EvE's a sucky game if you play it in single player modes. (That, and you can stop using that hauler alt because friends usually have much better hauler alts)
j) Learn your chosen systems. Know what's reachable by directional scanner from most places. Setup safe spots you can sit at a moment to scan from. (Don't sit there, as a compromised safe-spot is just a death-trap waiting to happen)

Eh..that's probably more than enough.

First off, being good at PvP in a fantasy MMO such as AoC where you rely alot on circle strafing and on-the-fly positioning et.c. means nothing whatsoever in EVE.

You're new, you have <1 mill SP, you can't even use a T2 small booster/repper. The only thing you can even try to fight for the next month is can flipping carebears in highsec and hope for a fight, optionally try to scan down some L1 or L2 missions and loot their stuff to make them angry.

Also, I fail to understand how you lost your implants to the "police" (it's called Concord here btw). They don't kill your pod, so clone and implants should be safe, unless you're silly enough to shoot at people while still having expensive equipment in cargo. This hole in your story makes me get the "troll" vibe.

Anyways, to answer you more directly.

Rockets are entirely useless in the game. Forget them, even if your ship has bonus to rockets they still suck. You fit missiles, and you use kinetic missiles since thats what your Kestrel has bonus with. Check out the Ships & Modules section for different ways to fit your ship.

Here's a quick sandwich list of things you need to do as a griefer in EVE:

- Learn the rules of engagement. When you can engage, consequences when you do, standing losses, Concord and gate turret aggro et.c.

- Learn the mechanics of the game. What is transversal speed? What is nano? What is explosion velocity? How does Ewar work? What is the difference between turrets and missiles? What's signature radius and alignment time?

- Buy a 2nd account and keep it with good standing, then train it up for either a) grinding missions for isk, b) mining for isk, c) doing trading for isk. Most people have an alt as their cash-cow to fund their ship losses et.c. Of course, you can keep buying and selling GTC's if that floats your boat.

- Hook up with a player corporation that offers the playstyle you prefer. There's plenty of pirate corps, merc corps, nullsec corps et.c. et.c. Do some research about the corp and their reputation.

- Most importantly the basic rules of EVE:

1) Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
2) Trust noone - everyone is out to either scam you for isk, or get you on their killmail, or preferrably both at once.

lol, "Crayton the Horrible" isn''t too far off, eh? Wink

My community service for the week:

You're doing the right thing by diving into PvP and not doing the typical carebear approach of, "oh I'll PvP when I get X skill trained.". Read, read, and read some more. Learn all you can about game mechanics.

Losing teaches you more about about PvP than winning. So when you get popped, try and understand what it is that you did wrong and what your opponent did right. You'll be better prepared the next fight.

Be humble. There are people who have been doing nothing but PvP in this game for years. There is no meteoric rise to infamy here. After eight months of Eve, you're still pretty much a noob. Wink

Eve can be very harsh in several regards. However, surmounting those difficulties makes your accomplishments actually mean something to you.

after a year of playing i still probobly couldnt beat sol in any ship of his. oh a different note, browse the character sales on the forums. you seem to be the type with deep pockets IRL and dont mind spending some for ingame stuff. just look for a low sp combat char thats got all the basics trained already and can fly much more than a kestrel.

I love this so much. I would be willing to donate to a harassment fund against this guy if anyone wants to partake in teaching him that even the god of the godliest PVP mmo next to EvE doesn't hold a candle to the shenanigans that happen in this game.

EvE will take your overinflated epeen and run a scalpel right down the vein and let every single bit of it's air out.
