The new cyno animation is boring, there is no sound to it (from the cyno-deployer's perspective) and it just seems.. a hundred times less exciting than the new one.

The new one looks like pretty much every new spherical graphic that CCP is obsessing over. The ship appears with a sphere and a few lines protruding out of it.

NEAT.

Here is the video that I slapped together in 10 seconds in Windows Movie Maker (because I really can't be asked to spend time on a video of a ship CYNOING.)

Click here for 30 seconds of mind numbing action.

I need to go open a cyno to see what's changed. I kinda liked the old one. I also miss the blue circle lights on my prowler, and I want to know why my cheetah has green lights now....

Oh hi Siigari

I think a combination of the old and new one would be nice

I have to admit, I think it's kind of a fitting effect. It is very BSG. ugh

Of course it's the same effect used for jumping through stargates and probes warping, which are two things it absolutely does not fit. Sad

nah its not fitting. the old one gave the impression things get "pulled out" of subspace. The new one is just a stargate-animation, but without a STARGATE.

Seems to me they didnt have time to adapt the old one so they just copied the normal jump animation.

Its just not good enough in comparison to the old one, seems just "lazy" to me.

EDIT: just look at the "empyrian-age teaser 2" when the ships come out of subspace, now imagine that with the new effect Rolling Eyes

it really is like they found 1 new effect and applied it to way to many things, you seen the webbed animation?

Yeah. Everything seems to have been given this crappy effect and it's very icky. On wormholes it looks great. On everything else it doesn't fit/work/look impressive.

Why do you care? Is your sole purpose and gratification derived from the cyno animation?

Not move on.

Think about it. You jump a ship that is massive through a raw wormhole of space, and your reception is it simply blinking into existence. No bang, no fireworks, just a simple "blink" and the ship is next to you.

Learn to strive for more. The old cyno animations were GREAT. They needed NO CHANGING and I think CCP went berserk with "omg shader 3 let's do all these cool reflectiony sphere thingies!"

I jumped my carrier yesterday with much disdain. Still I cant believe ccp would replace the cool jump effect with the underwhelming gate animation.

The old one kinda went "ROAR OH **** THERE'S A CAPITAL HERE!"

the new one just goes "bloop."

I think the rationale is that with the now common jumping mechanic, it's justified to use a less spectacular animation. Especially when 20 ships jump in somewhere simultaneously, you can now still see something with 20 "blips" as opposed to 20 "wooosh-kabooms".

can't even see it in the video.

edit - oh, you mean the jump effect. I think it looks quite cool, it's got a ripple effect as well that flies off it, **** myself the first time it happened right in my face.

LOL, exactly the same as the jump drive effect.

Yeah it is very underwhelming compared to the old, but;

I think you can see the problem here.

We want our world to look cool and sparkly.

CCP want the games effects to have some scientific credibility.

Capital Ship - Jump Drive
Stargate - Jumps any ships in its vicinity

The problem is really I think they're supposed to be the same thing.

Explain a way around that maybe and there's more chance they might listen.

That's easy.

The STARGATE is ON THE SHIP with the jump drive. There is no gate to fire through, so the ship has to sort of "fire" itself somewhere. The resulting "boom" that the old effect had was the jump drive being spit out of the jump to a normal point in space.

tl;dr: Raw jump is not as "smooth" as gate jump.

Yeah, I think the start of that would be explaining that the main gate structure generates up a massive beam of light and catapults it into the distance. So it doesn't make much sense that just the jump effect on a capital somehow works exactly the same without a stargate, no?

ROFL!!!!!!

You are my internet champion for today sir.

"HOLY ****! What the hell is that?"

"What?"

"I spilled coffee on my shirt, now back to the action, what's that boring blob thing?"

"I don't know, let's ask the military experts."

Military Experts "zzz"

"Well since we can't seem to reach the Military Experts, we'll have to assume that ship jumped in via the aid of what must be a truely gigantic cloaked stargate."
