I have been playing this game in and out for some time now.. just passed 3m sp which i find ok

Im just trying to find a good reason why i should continue playing.
I as a person find the mission system cluttered, missguiding and buggy after having tried to mission countless times i always end up at a quest thats bugged.. Me needing to warp to a deadspace that isnt there or stuff like that.

So im kinda funned of ratting which i´ve found impossible aswell. Due to the heavy amount of pirates flying around there.. I for some time just farmed 0.5 areas but the isk gain there is just rediciouless(maybe there is something i dont know) doing anomalies and pirates and stuff really didnt earn me anything.

So it always ends with me going to an 0.3 area since 0.4 is like totally suicide..
So im usually lucky when i find a quiet system and start doing it for like a couple of hours .. interesting stuff drops and i start having a bit of fun.. first time where everything wasent downright boring and grind. And then boom someone ganks me(which is part of the game and thats fine) Thats not a problem, the problem is hey it doesnt happen once and then ahh you continue no you go buy a new ship fit it on the way to the old system.. Gank.. Buy a new one just get outside the system you bought it in gank. 4th time you get to the system gank again.
and your broke.

Do i miss something here ? Cause if i start fitting my BC with Electronic warfare i have a huuuuge difficulty taking down these BS spawns. So in my (in)experience its one way or the other..

I have a huge issue with the pvp system here..And in my experience you cant do anything except sucking on Veldspar asteroids in 0.5 and that is boring..

What am i missing here ? I am not even remotely good at the pvp system because IMO it doesnt exist its slaughter. Whoever is most prepared kill the guy who has the wrong fits or isnt ready. I realise its been like this for some time ? but i have found some nice friends here but i aint gonna pay per month to talk to people man.

What does this game has to offer of FUN!? fun not being afking while sucking asteroids.. Fun not like staring at evemon checking your new queued skills if they are done ? i mean good fun something that makes me feel entertained ? What part of this game am i missing ? Fleet war ?! kinda the same as 1 v 1 ? just on a bigger scale those with better fits and more ships win.. Well here i realise skill has a bigger factor.. But hey i need to actually be able to earn some ISK to get to this stage of the game.. ANd im not farming 0.5 areas till then ?!

What im looking for is some oldies´s opinion.. Someone who has played this game for a loong time.. Who isnt the people who are sitting there at the gates ganking.. Cause in my opinion in the end thats kinda the only thing you can do.. At some point you have huge amount of isk and CBA to take missions and asteroids pfft if you choose fighter path then thats knda isnt a choise.. So ganking is the only way to go.

Im looking for the people who arent ganking who finds this game fun? what are you doing?

Hey Timmaeh

As an "oldie" (been playing for close to 3 years now), I can say that most things in EVE are fun, if you know how to do them properly. It seems you've been somewhat unlucky in your choice of corps, and my tip to you (Seeing as you like ratting and things like that) is to find a 0.0 corp in a relatively quiet area and rat your brains out!

Ratting in lowsec is quite inefficient, unfortunately, especially compared to a good negative security system with 10+ asteroid belts all by yourself.

My tip would be to post on the corp recruitment forum asking for a PVE/industry oriented 0.0 corp, there are lots of those :)

And oh, don't give up yet :)

Can always msg me ingame any time you want, if you need any tip etc.

ok. only time il post this as i dont often bother.

1. isk. fun comes with having enough isk to be able to chuck it away sometimes.
2. making isk. people vary. some scam etc. you know all this i assume. you mentioned ratting. but your doing it wrong.

pull up the map. find yourself some 0.0 serpentis space . fit yourself a cruiser, yes a cruiser. rupture.thorax.caracal. do people use amarr cruisers ? Razz

fit it to tank thermal and kinetic only. fill it full to the brim with kin dmg dealing ammo. and fit a cloak in a highslot.

now open your map. plan your route. locate the quietest entry point into 0.0 you can. you will be supprised how often you can ge entry without even seeing other pilots.

make sure u have a clear route planned.

make your journey. god speed with you and best of luck. sometimes you wont make it but keeping an eye on the map at all times often helps when you dont have a scout available to you.

plus losing your ship shouldnt hurt the wallet as your in a t1 cruiser..

so. prosuming you can make it to 0.0 again check the map within serpentis space and look for a quiet little area ( theres bloody loads of it) 0.0 is safer than low sec imo.. the rules are simpler. if someone else enters local. warp to a ss and cloak.. wait till they leave then resume your ratting. how simple does it get. as per the ratting. hit a belt. get as closer as possible to the battleships asap. ( orbit at 500m if possible. the bs cant hit you providing you keep moving . kill the frigs to make sure they dont web you and slow u down. then the cruisers. then the bs. PROFIT. next belt. rinse and repeat. on top of this you will come across Shadow serpentis spawns. which can yield some rather ncie loot at times. again. profit.

when your done warp to a ss and log off. this whole experience is much more tollerable if done with a friend tbh.

after some ratting you will have isk. to burn....

either safe it and do what everu consider to be fun or do as others and find yourself some PVP friends or better a pvp corp. the best way to learn is to fly with people that know. knowledge is power my friend. once u are up and running with the mechanics of pvp. your first sucsessfull pvp engagement SHOULD give you the buzz the rest of us thrive on. and thus provide you with a buzz which i can not match in any other game i have played hence why i have been playinf for 3 years and cant walk away.....

best of luck to you. long post but i hope it helps.

edit. took me so long to type i missed baal's post. hiS suggestion about a 0.0 corp is a good one .

Good replies so far, gotten some good idea´s BUT it still havent expanded the possibilities in eve. And what you guys are saying is i should L2p and if i cant do that on my own i should fine people who can teach me :S

So i should be content paying ccp wages till i have 10m+ skillpoints then ? since there really isnt that much to do? since honestly i dont think i can do anything in a 0.0 area.. my damage (flying a drake) is just crap currently i cant fit a cloak(yet) and i´ve spent most my time so far training learning skills and farming isk to buy the expensive learned skills to then train some more learning skills.

yes, in a way we're saying you should learn to play.. But in no way are we saying you can't do ****!

I was out ratting in 0.0 (Drone area) when I had maybe 2M skilpoints.. just enough to crapfit a raven. Also, skip the cloaks etc.

The Drake is also a good ratter, you just need to get a good build (See the fitting forums for that!).

But go set up a post in the recruitment forums.. It really is more fun to play with others. Also, you don't have to Rat out in 0.0 alone. If you're not comfortable with your own damage output simply ask a corp mate to join you! :)

Becuase the possibilities are endless - it's really depends on what YOU want to do.

No, I was able to rat in a Drake in 0.0 with less than 3mil SP and even before then I had fun mission running in a Caracal (I guess you fly Caldari) and then helping my corp mine with an Osprey or haul in a Badger.

Quote:

So train the skills to improve it :)

Aim to improve your DPS - it's not a quick skilltrain to get Heavy Launcher IIs, but the loading time is good and you will pump out more damage, plus you can train other skills the improve your missile damage.

What about drones, do you have them?

If not then they will help - get Drones V and then train Drone Interfacing - that give you 20% extra damage PER LEVEL.

As for tank, there are lots of shield skills that can train your passive tank up.

I wish people would stop recommending this.

Get EveMon and EFT, pick a good fitting and train the learning skills that are recommended to you, as and when you will benefit.

It's MUCH more fun that way :)

Don't think you need 10mil SP just to enjoy yourself and don't give up - train up for your Drake sure, but find a good corp where you can try other things - I found mining and hauling to be a good laugh with my corp whilst I was waiting for decent Drake skills to train.

Present. Never ganked anyone in my life.

Quote:
who finds this game fun ... What does this game has to offer of FUN!?

I have played this game on and off since launch. I go to other MMOs but always kept coming back here.

I am more or less a carebear, but ironically the hardcore PvP is what makes this game appealing to me. There is a sense of danger to the game that is completely absent from other MMOs...there are no safe zones. If someone targets me in highsec, it is likely they are just messing with me or that its an accident...but you never really know, since they technically could attack me. Even in highsec, the "safe" space.

I like the hands-off mentality the developers display with non-combat aspects of the game as well. The economy is truely player driven. It is the most player driven economy of any MMO I have seen so far. I like the openness...I can engage in PvP, or missioning, resource gathering, manufacturing, hauling ect...and I can swap careers on the fly. I can roleplay with my actions alone.

And last but not least, I like how BIG the world is. And not just the real estate (though that too dwarfs all other MMOs I have seen) but the fact that there are no sharded servers...everyone plays in the same world.

"Fun" depends entirely on what it is you like to do...you will need to figure that out first. From your post it sounds like you think there is some standard path or something you have to follow to get to the "fun" part.

Quote:

That has not been my experience. I find the mission system pretty tight actually.

Quote:
i always end up at a quest thats bugged.. Me needing to warp to a deadspace that isn't there or stuff like that.

I am currently doing level 4 missions, and have been doing missions for years. I have never come across a problem like that. Not once.

If your goal is money, Missioning is the best way to do it solo. Though it is not the only way.

If it is boring or buggy, I would suggest joining a player corp to mitigate that.

Quote:

Yes, lowsec is dangerous right now. It didn't used to be that way, and hopefully they will fix it in the future. Lowsec should be less dangerous than nullsec, but more dangerous than highsec, and thats not the way it is right now.

Quote:
Do i miss something here ?

You are trying to have fun in a part of the game that is high risk. But thats not the only part of the game.

Have you tried going into nullsec space? It is usually Lowsec (especially the border systems) that are heavily camped and patrolled. And nullsec has higher rewards as far as ratting is concerned.

Quote:
I have a huge issue with the pvp system here..

Then you should leave.

No, I am not being flip...just stating a fact. EVE is hardcore PvP. If this isn't appealing to you, you will not like this game, and are wasting your time.

Quote:

What you have engaged in isn't what most people consider PvP. The core of Eve (IMO) is out in nullsec...in the sovereignty wars between player corps. Highsec and Lowsec are just training for that.

But you dont have to engage in it unless you want to...highsec is relatively safe. And you can mission...which is basically the same as many non-PvP MMOs.

Haven't read any other replies.

The thing is that all kinds of stuff happens for which you blame everyone but yourself, That may sound harsh but it's true. There aren't any 'bugs' in missions much or "a deadspace not being there while it should". Those are not bugs, those are things you failed to understand or figure out. You just don't seem to put any thought into what you're doing, if you go into low sec you don't get "all of a sudden" ganked. That person entered local, he warped into your scan range, he entered your belt, needed time to target you, get in range and scramble. ANY part of that chain could have been broken by you, but you didn't.

Ofcourse I understand that new players need to learn things and have a valid excuse to make mistakes but at the same time you're still responsible for the effort/thought you put into stuff and there's a big difference between people who point fingers at others and those who try to overcome problems/lack of knowledge with learning and thinking before acting. EVE is not about SP or time invested. There's lots of newer, smart, active players who do quite well and at the same time there's tons and tons of [email protected] idiots who have NO real clue on the game, but have played for 5 years.

This is not some MMO where non-effort gets rewarded to accomodate for the idiot players, so they can achieve stuff too. Most other MMO's do and it takes time to adjust from that mindset, EVE caters for the smart and the prepared, and will severely punish the non-effort folks. With that in mind you should accept that most stuff that goes wrong will probably be your own fault and that the only way to get better is to put in effort like reading guides, asking others and be in a corp with actual players instead of zombie roidsuckers. And that you should think stuff over before actually doing it.

As long as you keep playing EVE the passive, "can't be bothered as long as I'm grinding for cash" way the game won't be fun and you will keep running into the same mistakes over and over again, your mistakes. EVE starts to shine the second you realise that this game is about player interaction, and interaction can be in numerous ways; be in a good corp with active folks, get stuff done together. Have a go at playing your part in the game, making a name for yourself. Start pvping (shooting someone is a form of interaction). All those things and much much more.

Stop playing in WOW grinding/zombie mode and and start becoming a person by interacting with others and realising that you can influence others in this game, both postive as negative, as you see fit.

The possibilities arent in highsec but in nullsec. And you dont need 30 million skillpoints...lots of Nullsec corps will take newbies.

It is possible to solo in nullsec, but it is hard. A player corp will give you the support and resources you need to survive out there. And IMO, the real fun of Eve is the player drama. Not the scripted highsec stuff.

Quote:

Pretty much, yeah.

Eve rewards cooperation...so the game is geared in favor of player corps. You can solo (I have soloed 95% of the time, and am soloing now) but the progress will be harder and slower and you will have to do your research.

If you want to fasttrack, you need to find a player corp in nullsec.

Quote:
So i should be content paying ccp wages till i have 10m+ skillpoints then ?

You dont need 10 million skillpoint to be useful to a player corp. But you will need more than that to survive reliably solo in lowsec or nullsec.

...because you are trying to do it solo. Thats the hard way. You can do it the hard way if you want (sandbox remember?) but that is a consequence. The rewards will be smaller and less frequent.

If you are looking for an easy time solo, you are going to be disappointed. Solo in this game is hard.

EvE is what you make of it. It's a sandbox, not a "directed experience", after all. You're given a ruleset, a set of tools, and turned loose to make your own way. As such, EvE wants a more "self-directed" player, that takes joy in setting their own goals and achieving them.

For ratting, join a 0.0 PvE corp and have at it, with your corpies to keep you safe. It works.

For missions - dunno, havent' EVER had the experience you describe. Missions are one ISK source, to enable you to do more. There's others, like trade, manufacturing, ratting, etc.

Personally, I mission for my ISK, mostly in hisec.

It's not that there isn't much to do if you have low skills, because there's LOTS of stuff to do in hisec. If you want to fly around losec or nullsec, you'll need to find a corp to join. Many corps require a minimum amount of SP to join them, but there are plenty who take noobs and train them to become killers.

So really as others have said, it comes down to what you consider to be fun. If you insist on going into losec and nullsec solo, then part of the fun could be evading pirates while you do some ratting or whatever. If you just want to look around, then a Drake may not be your best bet. That takes some off-line research so you at least have an idea on what to do and how to fit your ship to help you avoid getting ganked every time. Of course that gets discouraging, and makes you bitter at the game experience. Whatever it is that's fun to you, focus your skills and your attention on it and do it.
