basically what you need to do is setup teamspeak to use a database backend and then have a webpage verify the api fill in the database for teamspeak to use. I have never done it personally, so I do not know anymore then that, most i've done is help the guy actually doing it research it.

The theory of it is rather simple

Razor have been doing this for quite some time with out allies to allow access etc.

basically we just have a list of allowed alliances/corps who can access our jabber/ts servers. When a member registers they are required to give their api key/userid which is checked to see if any of the accounts on match up to the allow list.

If any match they will be shown to be selected which a person would want to use to make the account with, also if someone were to have both a good account and a hostile account on the same account (have to be stupid to do this btw) it would alert our administrators to that user.

thats the general jist of it.. you can go farther into it like checking the api keys daily and deleted one that don't match up and such if you wanted.

Just be carefull to not get your IP address blocked from too many failed attempts :-)

Teamspeak using SQLite DB by default.

There is 100 user limit on one of the older ventrilo server. I just can't remember how far back you need to go :S

Yes, but the encrypted password field has been a bit of a pain in my ass. However, if you get a library of a few hundred thousand pre-encrypted passwords, it would work.

Assuming you mean a simple IGB-only webpage with a "reset password" field which would choose a random password of the pre-encrypted passwords, not a modified ventrilo client accepting APIs (GL on the legal side of that, let alone the fact that it would be much less secure but I won't get into that).

Its workable, but I would say just stick to teamspeak for it.

USing phpBB and the API mod, and also using the Teamspeak regisration MOD for phpBB you can achieve this. however there is still no cronjob / scheduler to check API keys so keeping track of users is a bit of a pain.

Would be very interested in this, if it could be done with API.

it does, my previous alliance used it. Everyone was required to register on a phpbb forum and then activate the account with a api. The same login would be used for ts as well. If your account ran out it also made your forum and ts acount deactivate, so I guess they ran a cronjob everyday as well.

did the forums and the TS need to be on the same server?

With most database-driven systems, the databases used for TS/forum lookups can be on separate servers from the forum and Teamspeak server, or on one of the specific servers if that is wished for. Though you will need to create a user that has access to query the respective database from a remote host - this can be done on any larger backends (MySQL/PostreSQL/MSSQL etc.)
