I received this EveMail

--------------------
2009.02.08 03:32

Sorry that you had to be part of operation "Free The Carebears", and we appologize for your exhumer loss.
We would much prefer to have you as a valued client instead of a target.

Our teams are constantly scouting all high sec regions around Jita including but not limited to Lonetrek, Black Rise, Citadel, Essence for exhumers mining, and when we find one, our dessie teams will go out to get them.

For a limited time we are offering you BLUE +10 standings with our corp, and all of our allies for ONE FULL MONTH period (30 days). This will cost you ONLY 100 million ISK for the month, and your exhumer will be SAFE from any of our attacks.

If you reject our offer, we will add you to a buddy list folder, and we will run locator agents on you whenever we see that you are online. You will become a primary target for us first over any other random exhumers.

Pay 100 million ISK to Villwrath now, and you get FULL MONTH without harrassment.
--------------------

I will no longer play eve until you can stop this harassment, I'm also going to tell everyone I know about what happened and whatever response you give or fail to give.

response to my last petition was

Should this sort of thing be condoned in EVE and if not should something be done about it?

No, I'm not experiencing déjà vu.

Answer: I Believe NO, it shouldn't

Reason: This wouldn't be allowed in the real world and when it does happen you take it to the police. I Believe there should be a system in place to report and stop this sort of thing (They can use EveMail logs to check the authenticity of the report).

I Play the game to have fun, as this is the point of games.
Being Bullied isn't fun.

This is the Response to my inquiry about this

The people running Eve-Online seem to think this sort of behavior should be allowed.

Yeah, last thread was about something similar, this is more about the abuse of EveMail for Extortion. And finding solutions to it.

What part of EVE Online is by design a harsh, unforgiving world was it that you FAILED to grasp?

This is the game functioning as intended.. Mind you they have threatened hundreds of people and some will pay. They may even get ignored, till the next month when they will need to pay again.. probably pay more

We once ransomed all the POS in a low sec system by evemailing the CEO of the corps with the exact location and setup. Some paid, others ignored us. They were the smart ones.

Ignore your aggressors, mine somewhere else, or use those low and mid slots for a biiiigggg buffer tank and watch concord take care of them.

Alternately, get a noob alt, shoot one of the asteroids in the belt you are working, get concordoken and then have them there guarding you when your new friends show up in their destroyers.

This is EVE. It's cold, it's harsh and you need to look after yourself. If that's not your bag then you should find something else to do with your time. If you do can I have your stuff?

Ooh, haven't been able to say this one in a while: IBTL?

There can be no solutions as there is no problem. As stated in the last thread, avoid your would be overlords and they'll soon lose interest. They're after money and a fight, give them neither and they'll move on.

Eve is a game of patience. Having sat in front of 'roids for weeks I'd have thought you knew this. Wait them out!

You better send the ISK. Or go to low sec, guys there will protect you from high sec gankers.

Since you felt the need to post the idea as a question, yes, yes I do think blackmail and extortion are part of EVE, along with theft, piracy, murder, prostitution (if you're really into EVE's avatars), drug abuse, sanctioned wars, and so on.

The irony is that a lot of 0.0 is founded on extortion - 'pay rent or we kill you'.

Another irony is that you believed the mail. I've flown around a fair bit of high-sec, and I can't say I've seen legions of destroyer wings out to kill every exhumer. One or two, maybe, but not hundreds. It's either a very personal service extended just to you, or they're working a bluff. I bet it's not a 23/7 hour service either.

Blackmailing and Extortion are not a minor part of Eve. Defending against it is part of the fun in Eve as well as doing it.

Be grateful to BYDI that they add a bit of social interaction to spice up the game for you. And if you do not like it, there are lots of single player space ship games out there. X3 is good I've heard. Wink

you lost an exhumer.. I lost a faction pos that i used for research.. dont see me crying... planning my eventual revenge, yes. but not crying Twisted Evil

its part of the game, its part of RL, admittedly easier to get away with in game, but it would be rather difficult to protect against it.. Only real way I see is to report this to an anti-pirate corp/alliance or found one yourself.

This is the sort of response I'm looking for. I'm not crying about this or fishing for a "yes lets ban this" I'm looking for peoples opinions and ideas they have about this for OR against.

Well obviously, don't pay them, and the Hulk has a pretty solid tank, though.. you probably didn't have a tank on it did ya?

I do wish people wouldn't scam/con people as it does make the game far less enjoyable, but CCP allows it so you're kinda screwed on that one.

I'd say, set them to red, add them to your address book, don't pay them and just keep an eye on local. You can pull your local chanel out from your other channels and stretch it out to the left of your screen. I pay attention to that at all times.

If you see them pop in local go dock and grab a snack. Also, you should have kill rights on these guys aye?

You could rent a decent constellation in 0.0 space for about that much a month LOL
