Edited by: Momm on 31/01/2009 04:44:39 Hello Dearies,
This post is basically for a moderator to see and hopefully get it passed onto the developers.
I am absolutely enjoying certificates even though they do not "do" anything.
They are helping me get back into the game after my 2 year break.
And like other games its an achievement system which is fun to collect.
I also believe it will help other pilots old and new develop their skills for corporations (i.e. corporation requires X certifcates to be part of A Squad PVP team) -
I feel it assists in removing the "I have 50 million skillpoints spread around every skill in the game and I'm not good at anything" feeling to the "I'm certified for any type of mining operations and research projects" feeling.
I saw in the dev blog that higher end certificates werent really made because a player most likely has an idea of whats going on but I hope they do get put in eventually and are continued to be supported.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

I have to agree...I'm also back after 2 years and I've got a lot of rust. The certs give some nice direction. |

It would be even better if all certificates would make perfect sense, but there's still a lot of work needed on some of them. The nastiest offenders right now are the ones in refining, and some of the defence certs don't make perfect sense either.

I don't get the certificates thing. Just train what your brain tells you it's necessary to do (same goes for EveMon or other brain replacers).

I didn't appreciate them until I started trying to learn how to explore. Suddenly Cartographer became super useful in identifying useful skills. |

I would settle for making just plain sense... |

The certs can be useful as a general roadmap. They do need a LOT of work, though. However, they're most useful for brand new players who aren't well plugged in to friends in-game. A buddy of mine just started playing and he's found them to be very helpful. I do agree that a lot of the certificates really don't make a load of sense. |

I think they are fine, the new players I've meet seem to really enjoy them too. And they reminded me that I had neglected my cap skills after a year long break. |

They are a waste of time. You should only train what you absolutely should be training instead of some random skill that isn't likely to be used but I guess if your epeen needs a boost, certificates might be the answer for that problem. |

Got to admit I like these too. Gives me a round about idea of what stage i'm up to in the game and also how badly I was doing in terms of scattered skills.. :P |

I think they need a lot of work,I just looked to see what I would need to get the elite gallente soldier starter profession, and I lol'd at the description Quote: This certificate is the final step of the Federal Navy Academy graduate program for Soldier specialists. It certifies that the holder of the certificate has qualified for Gallente Cruiser-class vessels such as the Thorax, and is capable of using the relevant offensive and defensive systems. Cruiser-sized vessels are well-suited to tackling more profitable Level 2 missions in the hands of competent pilots.

I took a pretty long leave from eve and they helped me remember the skills I should be focusing on when I got back, and a heads up on the new ones I should be buying. I don’t know why people get so bent out of shape about them though, if you don’t have them fine. I don't have a lot of them above the basic ones just because I don't feel like pushing up a skill to five for an in-game listing that I'm not going to set to public anyway. |

What I like, is that with each ship (for example) comes a list of recommended certs - that really helps me decide which skills to train first! |

I thought at first "what a waste of time!" But then I went through them and they made me realise that several skills I'd neglected by only taking to 3 or so could be a benefit to go a bit higher for the sake of a few days training. Helps to round some skill areas out. Handy too for being able to see what new corp recruits have going for them when they apply to your corp. I agree though that some are very wrong. Yes the drones certs seem to leap from basic to elite by going to lvl5 all the way with nothing inbetween. You know something isnt quite right when you have 5 mill+ in drones and you are listed as 'Basic' all the way through. |

They helped me find some skills I didn't even know existed. Can easily happen if you take a break from the game a while and miss some expansions. |

They are great. I personally am aiming to have all the gallente racial profession Elite Certs by the end of the year, so as I can enjoy goofing around in the whole game. Allready have Soldier and Executive commander knocked out, so now its time to work on The Improved competency certs, and then its on to Special forces. Level IV's here I come! |

As a new player, I love them. They help show into what parts of the game they plug into, as well as providing a general plan for developing different aspects of your character.
For example, I've been focusing on gunnery and missile skils (Boo on Rockets!! Who uses those things anyways?) Even though I've only gotten some of the basic certs, I've noticed a difference between having the skills that make them up and not having them. I might never realized the value of some of those skills except for the certs planner.
So yes, certs as a general planning tool are excellent. |

The concept of the certs is great. There are two related shortcomings that I can identify.
1) The ability to make customized certs. Corps should have the ability to create certs with the skills they want from their pilots. Having an XYZ Corp Recruit certificate that you are required to have for membership. Then various certs that are attained for different positions within the corp. The certs would be exportable/importable so that if someone applies to a corp, they can attain the cert. Or even, the ability to simply make your own certificates...basically being able to move your skill plans from EVEmon into the game so you're not juggling applications.
This leads to the second problem:
B) Because of the shortcomings (both perceived and real) of the current cert system, 3d party app developers are refusing to add any sort of cert management to their apps. I don't understand this...since the info is in the API, why refuse to add it to your apps? Because you don't like it and think it's inaccurate?
I think if CCP added the ability to allow player created/customized the certs, then the system would be embraced by the 3d party app devs and the system would be embraced.

All that is missing now is the ability to use the Certificate system as a skill que. i.e. you select a specific Certificate and skill que takes care of it. Would be a nice feature i think. |

Overall I like the Certs but h ave heard comment from veterans that some contain unnecessary skills.
They help me to plan out what skills I should be training up (I want to be able to active shield tank as well as passive for example) - some tweakage may be needed but that's down to the Dev team talking to the vets. |

I'd almost like to see equipment get certificate requirements
not all at once but slowly implemented as to not anger pilots
Would give another reason for people to actually start looking at them as well as to get the certs that have little meaning fixed
But I STILL LOVE EM!!!
THANK YOU!! |
