Wow, good job spreading their spam into the forums. That was useful.

Also, CCP should send a cease and desist for flat out copying CCP's content for their site.

Petition under the Isk Seller category and they'll be blocked from posting shortly after (sometimes minutes). I have no idea if they are banned, but at last the channel is freed from their spam for a few seconds.

Hit escape in-game to bring up the control menu. Select "your petitions". Select "rules and policies" group, and then select ISK spam or whatever in the menu below that. Fill in the name of the spammer and send to CCP.

It's a tedious system to use for this purpose but it's the only one that puts an ISK spam complaint into any sort of official queue. Way too many spammers to be starting threads about each one.

I'm not positive as to whether or not they'be banned. Presumably they are. They are at least kicked off of spamming in channels though, which is better than nothing, I guess.

i can see that as a persistent problem for the petition executors, wonder what can be done to the website offering the isk, maybe someone from CCP could actually buy some isk and find out who is passing it out in game and remove the accounts comepletly, or isnt there potential for sueing the owners of these websites for exploitation?

I've said it a million times, but the spamming aspect is simple to resolve. Filter it. Rather than ban 2,500 accounts that each spam for blahblaheveiskblah.com ONE AT A TIME, have a blacklist and just prevent any message being posted from anyone to any channel that contains that URL. You've just reduced the amount of work/spam involved by 2,500 times.

Then there's the whole simple flood-protection or eve Bayesian filtering, but you get the point.

Apparently CCP would rather approach it as if it's an IRC channel in 1994, instead. I can't wait for all those new players in March who log in and see what a piece of neglected **** it appears to be. After all, what community could possibly be vibrant and thriving and alive and valued with constant spam in channels, rendering them almost useless? Surely that only happens in a game where only a few stragglers remain playing the game and the company behind it has largely abandoned it, right?

At least, that's the impression it will give new people.

I have OFTEN seen in help channel when i used to be there that the isk spam was like: buy from www * randomsite * com, and many variations on it, using the same methods people use to prevent spambots from finding their email address (cookie[at]chocolate[dot]com for example). It doesnt help anything if you just block everyone who mentions that site, since they will work arround it.

yes another good point. i guess even blocking IP addresses wouldn't even work since those can be changed also, so isnt there still room for legal action or is it worth it?Confused

suing someone over international/foreign law is a very complex and expensive process.

yeah, that sounds like the the pontential case there, so is there no way to stop spam in local from these isk pirates.YARRRR!! maybe buying the isk and cancelling the accounts that are passing it out is a viable option, although we as players may have to pay more for our accounts, is that worth it?

we could have a Vice-CCP squad going undercover and buying "illegal" isk, eh. if these accounts are gone no isk to sell, so what do the isk pirates do then? they buy more accounts and make more isk the old fashoioned way right? seems like that would slow their sales down.

seems to me from reading the other topic that there are money traders who get the isk from money holders who get the isk from macro miners and macro missioners and the like so it seems the CCP would have to actually access the traders accounts and find out who they get their isk from, and again access the holders accounts to find out who the holders get their isk from and cancel all those accounts to remove the problem, not to mention canceling the accounts of those found buying the isk.

Actually it is more effective to keep all those farming/selling accounts active once identified and just keep punishing/banning all those ISK buyers that are connected to the group. Simply because the structure will be rebuild once removed and CCP would have to do thw whole investigating again. With keeping them around, known and monitored, CCP can attack the cause of their existence: The ISK Buyer.

Of course the sellers realize that they got compromised and to maintain a trustworthy reputation(hah!) they need to abandon the structure and recreate a new one. That's when CCP is flushing them all to hinder the recreation by eliminating existing assets.

Granted, I am just guessing here as CCP never divulges their methods to the public, but behaving like this makes much more sense than outright banning identified ISK sellers immediately and it fits to the perceived inaction from the player's perspective.Wink

(responding to Abrazzar)

personally, that sounds like the most effective idea ive heard so far! but, CCP would have to be very active to accomplish it, a heavy squash or two on their major assets would likely put at least some isk sellers out of business or at least lose them some major cash.

Locked.

Thank you for editing out the website, please do not give them additional free publicity.

If you spot an isk spammer either via EVE Mail or in local, please file a new petition under the category Rules & Policies, Isk Spammers.

I assure you our Customer Support particularly looks forward to receiving those petitions.
