I have a lifetime subscription to HG:L

I bought it reasoning that 'one day the game will be good and i can just come back and start playing with out worrying about subscriptions'

I still think it was a good investment.

The main difference between a lifetime sub and paying monthly - Once you've paid that lifetime sub, they have your money. They don't need you anymore. They could shutdown a week later leaving your "Lifetime" very, very short.

Pay monthly and you don't have this problem. Razz

Why would CCP charge that, when they can continue to make more by monthly payments, or yearly at most.

Because they could take everyone's lifetime subs, and close the game. It's their game, they can do what they want, right?

they'd have a class-action lawsuit up in their face from 250,000 subscribers faster than you can say kazooie

I would bank on Eve living out til 9-10 years, at that point it will spiral down.

So CCP and Devs you have some work to do to keep Eve up and running.

Eve would be the only MMO I would consider such an offer for. Mainly because I can see Eve lasting long enough for it to be worth it.

They could do that but they'd take a loss if it was priced anywhere under around 4 years worth of subscription.

But now i can be an internet elitist. I was a FOUNDER of HG:L man, a FOUNDER! I even had TWO preorder dyes, because i was sneeky and tricky and awesome.

My guardian was cute too ;_;

Why cant ships look like hot women? I like looking at them while i play my video games. Lets change eve so every ship is a gigantic space robot girl in a metal bikini.

I would definitely pay for a lifetime membership, but I doubt it's going to happen since it would be extremely unprofitable for CCP - it basically banks on people creating a new alt every so often in order to keep the game running, because otherwise a couple years down the line they're going to find themselves with their excess money spent and half their current revenue gone.

That said, if it makes sense for a game going against the curve, it's WoW - they'd have people signing up for lifetime memberships over time, rather than all at once pretty much with EVE, since EVE has a much slower growth curve than WoW.

This really.

EVE online have the longest turnover rate when it comes to players. You have those highly dedicated players, like the people who have been playing for 5-6 years now. Even I have passed 3 years of gametime in EVE! So I would not hesitate signing up on a lifetime membership!

The problem is CCP would loose on it. And in the end the players would loose on it! Because there where not enough monty to keep 400 people in work if everyone paied 300 dollar and was "done with it". A few years, yes, but after that CCP might have some probs. Cant say for sure since I am not an professor in economics, but if I was in Hellmars shoes, and knowing the growing popularity of EVE I would say "Hell no" to introducing a lifetime membership for lousy 300 dollar! 1000 dollar! THEN maybe! maybe...

Well it can't be more than the value of a 3 years worth a subbing. Since as we all know the world is ending in 2012 Rolling Eyes

Premium in Hellgate was a crock, I'm glad I was refrained from impulse buying it as a fan of the Blizzard North team.

EDIT: There's one game I'd have considered buying lifetime for... Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates by Three Rings. That game was the ****, but when they added stuff like item deterioration and hell I don't know what else it sort of ruined the game for me. And now, it's just not worth the money anymore, I believe their temporary lifetime sub when the completed version was released was around $70.

I don't believe CCP's long term financial interests would be served by selling lifetime subscriptions. They have no way to predict what their development, maintenance and delivery costs will be years from now. Consider the fact that by Dad bought my brother a lifetime subscription to National Geographic in 1965 for $300. Every month, my brother gets his NG, for all these years. This has been a losing proposition for NG for a long time now. CCP should not risk that kind of exposure.

Instead, I wish they'd offer 3 and 5 year subscriptions. I'd sure buy a 3-year, possibly a 5-year and it's got to be better for their bottom line to do that over time vs. lifetime subscriptions.

i'd buy one for my main, and one for my cap ship alt.

at this point if it's less than 4 years it would have saved me money.

Given I have been playing EVE for 5 years already, I'd pay for a lifetime account.
Depends a bit on price though compared to my sub.

I'd totally do it.

As far as if it's good for CCP... Who the hell am *I* to judge what's good for them and what isn't. Can I see their balance sheet? No. Do I know what their 3-5 year plan is? No. That's up to CCP to determine if it's good for their business or not.

All I can do is say that Yes, if it were possible I'd buy it. Especially if there was some little added perk like my name is different in the forums, or some such garbage as that.

I think the closest they'd come to this is auctioning out a few lifetime subs, or using them as prizes in a huge tournament or competition.
It would be interesting to see how much the most dedicated (or simply most rich) EvE player would pay for a lifetime sub.
