I want to do lvl 3 or 4 missions. Best ships I can fly are Raven and Dominix, unfortunately no t2 skills yet.
Is it possible to solo lvl 3 / 4 without any of that fancy t2 stuff? If so, anyone know a good fitting for that? |

You almost certainly can with the Raven, but I expect the Dominix will be hit harder by not being able to use T2 stuff (there's quite a difference between T1 and T2 drones). For ship modules you can get named items that are as good or better than T2 in a lot of cases. |

You can definitely use a Dominix in level 3's with tech1. Not level 4's though. However, you can purchase low level faction mods that are equivalent to tech2 without the skill requirements. An example would shadow serpentis hardeners. They have the same resistances as tech2, but slightly less fitting and skill requirements, and they are about the same and maybe even a little cheaper than tech2. You can get them off contracts. |

Raven would have a hard time with basic T1 gear in L4s. If you're looking at faction/complex stuff, then you'll be OK. |

Dominix is a hell of a tank even with T1 stuff: Capacitor Power Relay T2 is very very fast to skill. If you don't want them, change one LAR to MAR Try to get Hardener T2 as fast as possible too.

T2 is hardly 'fancy' ;)
To convert the above setup to complete T2 fit (except the rigs), you need repair systems 4, hull upgrades 5 and energy systems ops 4. Not a huge amount of training. Upgrade your reps, at least... |

Level 4 missions can be easily soloed with a pure t1 fit BS (and little SP). However, you must know how to properly fit the ship to do it but the same is true with a t2 fit. I can't comment on the dominix as I've never really missioned seriously with it. However the raven is a decent enough starter ship for missioning and should serve you well. It's been a while for me but I recommend 6 cruise launchers (best named you can afford), an XL shield booster, 3x rat specific shield hardeners (2 primary, 1 secondary), and at least 1 ballistic control unit. For drones you will want lights simply because you will be unable to kill frigates with your missiles in a reasonable amount of time. Beyond this you will want your ship to be cap stable but not have too much cap. Once you have it cap stable you will want to add on additional BCU's and ideally a target painter too to increase damage output. It is possible that with low skills you may find yourself resorting to a cap booster launcher to get enough cap to run the shield booster. This is a quick fix until your engineering skills are up. It isn't something you want to keep doing in pve but when I first moved up to a BS I had to use one. You might also want to give an energy vampire a try. They are of limited use in pve but they helped me out a lot early on. |

Edited by: Tchelor on 10/12/2008 14:46:02 If you're using a Dominix, T2 medium drones are effectively mandatory, as the main time-sink skill increases drone control range, which frees up high slots for dps. For level 3s medium drones are sufficient for killing anything. As for level 4s; it's possible to do them without any time-intensive T2 gear, so long as you have heavy/sentry. Not time effective though, and it might be more profitable to stick to lvl3s while waiting for skill training.
Faction gear of course can mitigate this, if you can afford it, but that helps the Raven much more than the Dominix, as Domi dps is limited by the lack of reasonable faction drones |

Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing is often a skill I notice a lot of my newer mission running corp mates never train. They don't realize that it adds control range to all drones. |

That too is very helpful; generally it's overlooked because it requires standard EW IV to learn, which is something most missioners don't train to specifically use, particularly Gallente pilots who account for most dedicated droners, since Gallente racial ew (rsd) is generally useless in pve. Still, I'd wait on that until tank fittings were mostly T2, or faction w/ near T2 skil levels |
