CCP could limit sex change from female to male only for those who are registered as male on their account, and vice versa. So if your male in real life, and a have a male character, you will not be able to change him for a female. I am sure account and eve talk to each other. |

Well, instead of asking CCP to make an important change to their game (which will require them to destine dev hours to make it) just sell your actual character and buy a new one, a male, with similar characteristics. You have a whole forum full of characters. After all, it was your bad choice and not a problem done by CCP, so I don't know why it's them who should solve it. |

Edited by: Cubus on 24/11/2008 11:08:00 Well, it's possible to switch your portrait with another character for a mere 10 Euro (or 5000 dollar I presume). Maybe they'll do the same for entire bodies.
I could use a new (male) one. I've grown tired of this one after 5 years :P |

Edited by: Karanth on 24/11/2008 11:14:20 First, they came for the missiles, but I said nothing, since I was not a mission-runner.
Then they came for the portraits and gave us avatars, but I said nothing, since I hate Achura with a passion that can't be described.
Then I came to this thread to show off my recent portrait swap, as I like it and don't care if ambulation is tomorrow or a year from now.
EDIT: I don't think it's fully taken yet on the forums, but Soon™ I hope.

Edited by: Saladin on 24/11/2008 11:18:05 Anyone who has been to an FF knows how awkward it is to refer to mates in person with female avatar names, so I do think a Sex change would be useful to a lot of people. Blizzard offer this service for WoW (you pay RL money for it), and I know a co-worker who plans to use it after he started socializing more with his guild-mates (whatever you call them) offline.
However, in WoW, changing your name and sex only impacts those around you. Your avatar is just another person waiting in line at the amusement park. EvE on the other hand, is completely different. Your avatar may be a scammer or corp theif, someone who posts on the forums too much for his/her own good, may be a titan pilot commanding hundreds....etc. On the whole, an avatar carries much more weight in EvE. If CCP allowed a sex change, we would soon get requests for a name change (unless you named your char "Revan") and that would be totally unacceptable.
I don't know what will be more creepy. The Jade-types using the voice change feature so that a man can sound like the female char he represents, or the other female chars that won't use it. |

Male voice and female character might be an issue for some players, considering eve voice is (supposedly) going to be a big part of ambulation.
Other than that, I see no real problems. |

They are adding something they are calling "voice fonts" to characters, which supposedly can change your voice sufficiently to get that problem out of the way. Not sure how it'll turn out though, we'll have to wait and see. I for one will enjoy playing around with the WiS character editor to recreate my current character. And make her look more or less normal while I'm at it. |

Edited by: Saladin on 24/11/2008 15:04:03 I am not certain if Voice fonts are the way to go. Something about them makes them seem quite sinister to me. If it were done so you could tell if someone is using a voice font, that could make me less skeptical.
The fact is we cannot be overly careful about breaking immersion, because someone will always find a way to break it. There are guys creating female avatars, chars with names like "Ben Dover", and even alliances taking on names like "You What". All of these things break immersion, so voice fonts are not critical. |

1. They could very easily make a permanent semi-rp bio add on, something like "USED TO BE HIGHLY AFFILIATED WITH A POD PILOT X" or whenever you search a specific char name it directs you to the new char/bio. And in the end, name change isn't as important as the actual model. 2. It stops many players from taking roleplaying seriously. 3. The avatar was fairly irrelevant, now it has became faar more important. 4. CCP can make money by making it 10 euro |
