Hi All, this is my char in-eve linkI would like to ask for a few advice in what Ship and weapon can I use to start in pvp word? You can see what are my skills at this link. by now I have a harbinger and I'm using it to do lvl 2, sometimes I use a Retribution for some lvl2. I'm thinking in use a punisher to start solo pvp in 0.4 regions, what do you think about this? Thanks in advance. |

if your a low skilled amarrian player and you want to learn solo pvp in low sec you should train any extra skills you need to properly fit an arbitrator.
this ship has a bonus to the effectivness of tracking disruptors and also drone damage. this makes the arbitrator very effective against turret based targets.
the other reasons i suggest this is because its also a cheap ship, which is good because at first you are going to die. a LOT. this ship will not tank sentry guns, so belt hopping only.
alternatively - you could train for a malediction (interceptor) and go roaming the transport routes in 0.0 in the hunt of haulers.
whatever you do - always fit your ship to compliment the specific bonus's for that particular ship, and there are some useful tools you can use also live EvE fitting tool see this thread http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=548883
if you die a lot and you need to start using even cheaper ships - you should consider training to fly a rifter or Thrasher or minmatar Assault frigates.
read the combat section of the guides http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/mn06.asp <<< there - this will give you a better understanding of everything related to combat, like your strengths and weaknesses and how your weapons work.
dont give up after you die the first few times :-)
good luck,

I would forget solo pvping for now mate. Any solo ships you come up against in lowsec belts/planets will massacre you. Usually the pilots you will come up against tho will be working in gangs and before you know it you will be baited and ganked into oblivion.
Instead I would suggest that you join a pvp corp, either FW or nullsec to get some fights under your belt. There are loads that advertise in the forums.
Learn from your corpmates in terms of fittings and tactics. Also, use T1 Frigs and cruisers with cheap fittings as you will probably be losing some ships to start off with. Have some ready fitted replacement ships so when you get killed you can jump into a new one and get back into the fight straight away.
Finally insure your ships and make sure you have a clone, just incase you get podded.

You don't need to train up t2 ships or use cruisers to get started in solo pvp. The punisher is a fantastic ship. Fit a standard bleeder setup and set destination amamake. Lol you're guaranteed a fight there... |

I would recommend going straight into solo pvp. It's a great way to learn pvp, you just have to be prepared to lose some ships and learn from those losses. |

Edited by: Murina on 18/11/2008 20:18:32 Gang pvp is much more a matter of skilled piloting and adaptation than solo pvp simply because most solo pvpers know exactly what ships they can beat and how to beat them, and also when to bail when things go wrong.
Gang pvp on the other hand is a highly fluid encounter and apart from a massive blob is considerably more skill intensive (pilot and team work wise) than solo/1 v 1 encounters because of the massive amount of variables that can happen in gang fighting. Although since the nerf things are a little up in the air and considerably more sucking in this area.

Yup. The water is VERY cold, but the only way to learn how to swim is to jump in. Best to get used to it from the start. |

I second the punisher. You will lose a lot of ships learning, but its effective, cheap, and can kill things larger than it. |

Well, the tricky/demanding part about solo work (particularly in non-nano ships, although this is largely moot post-QR) isn't engaging the ships you know you can take on by using approach X/Y, it's fighting the ships which have a advantage of some sort (like nano vs non-nano fights pre-QR), fighting outnumbered (largely a moot point post-QR), fighting the same ship-class or trying to kill targets above the general capability of your ship-class. Gang PVP, well, to be honest, the most I've done is either playing the anti-support/mid-range role which is reasonably fun in reasonably evenly matched fights since pilot skill does make a difference, or sitting in a RR BS, which is, well... let's say it does not take that many skills once you get the hang of it. Of course, ship choices are greatly diminished for sentry work, and everyone reasonable will try to force a fight at station/gate to have the sentries on their side. Of course, this vastly overdone and largely uneccesary nerf reduces them even more. |

Absolutely not. Stealth bombers cannot solo in any reasonable fashion - they can't really fit any kind of tank, yet you'd need to be close to be able to hold your target down. The only time you might stand a reasonable chance is against something you can alpha-strike - and that only really comes down to stationary interceptors (and now you'd probably need a couple of target painters on them to even pull this off...). Asides from the fact that you don't tend to find interceptors stationary, ever, if the pilot notices you uncloak and gets moving before you can lock him and send the missiles away, he'll take limited damage and you're in real trouble. Against frigates, you don't really have the right weapons to hit them solidly, nor the fittings to tackle or tank properly. You would definitely die to a Punisher or Rifter, for example. I suppose you could take a badly-flown/-fitted frigate, but then you could do this in your Punisher just as easily. Against destroyers, you'll get completely ****d by their specialised anti-frigate weapons tearing you apart before you can get off a second volley. Against cruisers + anything bigger, you'll be doing less damage than them (or perhaps about the same for some of the less ganky cruisers), and have much much less hitpoints. Also the bomber is a bit lumbering and won't be able to manouever to avoid cruiser-class fire much, so you'd pop pretty quick. It's also got almost no defences against drones, and everything BC and up can field a full flight of lights which will tear you to pieces quickly. So basically - the stealth bomber is a very niche ship. It's only saving grace is the clock, and this requires specific circumstances, and patience, to pull off. It can be useful in e.g. empire wars for the psychological factor if you can pick off a weaker player then fade back into the shadows before the big boys get you - but for general flying around PvP it's dreadful. The Punisher is a solid ship to start off with, and at around 500k ISK to lose one (after insurance) it's a fairly cheap way to learn the ropes. (And you will lose a ton of ships to start with, we all did, but those are often the most educational trips. Ones where you just win don't teach you anything. ) Once you're ready to move up a level for a little more oomph, the Arbitrator is definitely the best Amarr cruiser, though it does require decent drone skills to get the best from it. The Maller and Omen are both a little meh for solo work - one has plenty of tank but lacklustre damage, and the other has decent damage but no chance for a solid tank. Neither can reach the same kind of tank/gank levels you could in a Thorax/Vexor/Rupture, for example. So, grab yourself a Punisher (in fact, it's best if you can buy and fit out half a dozen, so that when one gets popped you can just jump in the next one and keep going rather than have to faff about with the market) and get going! My number one piece of advice would be to remember that when you attack illegally, you get a Global Criminal Countdown for 15 minutes. During this time, sentry guns at stargates and stations will attack you, plus CONCORD will spawn if you enter highsec during this time and destroy you. So firstly, don't engage at gates or stations as you'll last about 10 seconds in front of gate gun fire. Secondly, after an engagement (at a belt, usually), wait out your timer (shown in the top left corner of the screen) without going to gates or stations. I lost my first PvP Punisher this way, jumping into highsec a couple of minutes after taking out a Caracal... |

I just say join a low-skill-happy-go-lucky-pvp-corp. Either pirate or FW, doesn't matter. You'll have tons of fun, meet tons of friend and learn a lot. |

Anyway, I'd suggest going for the punisher as long as you don't want to cross-train, then the arbitrator. Go find a good group and let them teach you. In my experience, low sec piracy is the best training grounds, altough it depends really on you (and your morality) |

Hey! Sorry to disappoint you, but hmm about 90% of the "pvp experts" that use the forums got their nanobuilds nerfed and thus are too busy insulting other people to vent their anger. You'll most likely find them harrassing folks in any and all threads that include a complaint about this last patch.
Problem is, clearly, that the "real" pvp experts are hard to come by, these we currently got in stock only work if handed an "i-win" pvp button. Please accept our apologies though!
Oh and just one word of advice: I wouldn't try solo pvp'ing for now, not for long though, but just for now, till the patch dust settles, because many things changed and if this would be your first time pvp'ing I'd strongly recommend you stick around the forums trying to fish constructive advice first, or, to tag along a couple experienced buddies. Otherwise the loss of material might lead to some unsavoury and discouraging experience :(
But hey! then again, if your finances aren't doing too bad, you could show up solo with some *really* cheap ships, just remember to, in the case the crap's about to hit the fan, to select a celestial object or station on the overview (stargate preferred) and begin spamming the "warp to" button, so when your ship explodes, you don't waste any time before warping your pod away.
Good luck! |

Last night I buy and equip an Arbitrator to see what can I do with the ship, so I went to do some missions first and then I realize that with this ship I really need to improve my drone skills, but, is a very good choice. I try one mission with a lot of guristas and I don't need to use the 2 repers at the same time, just one and my drones do the job very good.
any advice on arbitrator fit? I know there is a lot of loadouts in Battleclinic but some times the best fit appears in this type of threads.
Many thanks
