I picked up 2 of these from some rats in a .5 system:

Secret Garage Coordinates.

The description says its a chip that contains the coordinates of a secret garage operated by local bandits. 2 questions:

  • What is this and how do I use it?
  • Is it for a storyline or agent mission?

Heh... maybe that's really 3 questions. Anyone?

I cannot tell you for certain, but early on I followed up some leads in dropped Gurista ship logs in hi-sec Caldari space, and every time I found a pirate base where they said it would be. Probably it's just a static pirate installation, if you feel light fighting for loot and salvage.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I suspect it contains some sort of information, but I don't know how to access it. Do you drop it into a mod?

The problem is getting info out of it. Show info just says its contains coordinates to a secret garage. Not sure what to use to access that data if anything.

Does it say what system? The ones I've found in logs, I went to the named system, and in the overview there was a static site like "Pithi deadspace beacon" or "Sansa military outpost". I just warped to it and proceeded from there.

I believe it is used for a cosmos agent.

Not sure which one though.

It sounds like a COSMOS item. Regarding the OP, check the Galactic Cluster map and change the display settings to color the Stars by DED Agent/Site locations. If you picked it up in or around the cluster of brightly glowing locations for that Empire (each of the four Empires has a COSMOS Constellation with slightly different NPCs) this should be a pretty strong indication as to whether or not it is indeed a COSMOS item.

Meanwhile, the Ship Logs dropped by Pirate NPCs are most likely those which refer to the former, static locations of DED Complexes which have since been introduced into the Exploration system. They still exist, either by design or oversight and add a little "color" to the in-game story of the EVE Cluster and the various Factions within.

Name the constellation in which it was found, and we can pretty much tell you instantly if it's a COSMOS item. If you were in Algintal, Ani, Okkelen or Araz then it is; if you weren't, then it isn't.

Or Kenobanala, or Audesder.

It must be a COSMOS item then. I found this item in Vahunomi (system), Okkelen (constellation).

So, find a COSMOS agent and run the mission (assuming I have standing)?

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Or alternatively, sell it to someone who's currently running the mission but can't find their own. Some of those things are a goddam pain to find when you actually want it.

A good general rule for the Cosmos agents (they're dotted about the constellation where you found the thing, by the way) is to find out in advance all the details about the missions you'll have to run, and collect everything possible, BEFORE you start running them. Of course if you want to RP your character, you can't do that. Your character doesn't know in advance what the agent will ask him to do, even though the guy behind the keyboard might.

I'm not sure if this is related or not but prior to empyrean age rats used to drop log fragments which would tell you to go to different systems. They were sort of like mini-escalations that you get on plexes in 0.0. It sounds similar to what you're referring to.
