Edited by: Shadowfoot on 07/11/2008 21:35:47 Ok, so I am a few months into playing Eve. I am debating on where to go from here. I can run mission in a T2 tanked raven (its slow, but it works) and I am tired of Caldari mainly do to the fact that I don't like missiles for pvp. That being said, I am debating on wether going for Amarr battleships (Geddon/Abbadon) or going toward Gallente (Mega/Thorax/maybe Domi). Time is NOT a factor, I just want a line that would get me very high damage in small gang warfare (about 10-15) and that would be able to survive. Also, is going drones with the Domi any good for small gang pvp? Thanks for the replies :)
Also here is my inEVE skills list :)

Oh trust me I know , but I am already going to get drones up. I am talking mainly about if I should go Amarr BS/Cruiser or Gallente BS/Crusiers? |

Hop on the bandwagon and go amarr. Even if they get nerfed in the future you will still enjoy them. |

Man I can't believe how many people are in the same boat as me. Caldari PvE who want to PvP. I'd be interested in this as well. Basically turret/laser/etc. is craptastic, drone skill is non-existent, etc.
All I have going for me is maxxed learning skills and decent support skills (ie. engineering/electronics). |

I'd stay Caldari. You've got decent Gunnery skills already, just flip over to the railboats. Boost Drones and your support skills and you should be ok. Other than that, I can't say. I recently switched from an Amarr character to this one, so I'm a bit biased, but Amarr ships are very nice. They look good and fight well. |

I always say this to people that ask me the same question: Go for the race you think you'll enjoy most. There is no one but you who can judge that. I trained Amarr when I first started depsite the fact that people told me not to, now those people are training Amarr... If you haven't decided yet, you still have a lot of support skills to fix anyways. Just take your time, maybe download a few pvp videos featuring different races, and see which race you'd enjoy most. As for my personal opinion, of course, I am partial to Amarr. I can tell you what I like about Amarr from my experience: 1- Awesome-looking ships. 2- Lasers are easy to control. No half-way ammo re-load, decent range, it's not affected by lag a lot. Scorch is awesome. 3- Strong-tank. 4- All battleships are good. and, BS V with Amarr is a great skill to have due to great Amarr capital ships. What I don't like: 1- Em-Thermal dmg only 2- Not enuf mid-slots on most of the ships which makes it difficult to fit sometimes. (Retribution has 1 mid-slot, Geddon has 3, etc.) 3- I don't like rockets much..... 4- Only really starts shining with good skills. 5- It will probably be nerfed with all this Amarr-hype on forums |

This. If you train FOTM because you suspect it will be slightly more effective, then you're going to be ****ing and moaning when it gets nerfed, and you'll be constantly trying to learn a new playstyle based on the FOTM. instead, why not just find something you like, go with it and get good with it? You'll have your time in the sun, and a poor player flying FOTM < a good player flying anything else. |

Honestly, this is going to sound funny, but I like training amarr too, because the ships are nice looking. I think the Executioner and Punisher are the best looking frigs in the game. Like I said, I think that. |

This holds true only if it's the race you enjoy, the appearance, type and tactics. If you are asked a question which race is the best to train for survivability and high damage in small gang pvp, answering the the question by saying you should fly what you enjoy is the same as saying you should fly a ship with high damage. Helps? not really. As for the real question, gallente and amarr are both very viable choices over caldari with high damage capabilities and survivability. You'll have to consider the tactics, gallente style is to go close and personal, and slap the enemy face to face. Amarrians prefer to shower judgment from great ranges. Two very opposite play styles. Both are capable of high damage, and survivability. Gallente survivability in close quarters combat is based on their ability to engage, maneuver and stay in close combat with speed boosts (which is now being nerfed as you propably know) While people are now training amarr and claiming the whole race is useless now, it is, like always, exaggeration and drama play. Gallente will survive like always before, so don't think that's no longer a viable option. Amarr on the other hand has been the gimp race as far as I can remember, and people have always been saying that you could do much better with the other races. Truth is that while they've been challenging to fly, it's far from a bad choice. Amarrs use a tactic different from the other races, and those who whine are mostly those who don't understand or can't use said tactics. To conclude this, both are good, choose your style of play and go for it. |

I honestly think you need to go with what you fancy. Ive still not found my 'niche' so to speak and often feel the poor relation in PvP because my gunnery skills are pretty poor compared to most (4m). Decided a long time ago to take missiles as far as I could and am well aware of the fact that its not exactly FOTM in PvP but I intend to be here a while and figure I can get onto gunnery skills soon enough. You can guarantee whatever you choose it will be either nerfed or boosted over time so regardless of what you do there will be ups and downs. It seems not that long ago that Amarr were the worst to be in yet now I see many more posts saying how good they are becoming....What goes around comes around. At the end of the day...just enjoy yourself! Esab |
