I was thinking about how the gallente and caldari used to be the same nation but split, and then it hit me! They're based on U.S. political philosophy! The Caldari represent Conservativism because they take capitalism to its logical extreme. Likewise the Gallente represent Liberalism since they take that to its logical extreme.

So the game is really about

Black People + Liberals VS Conservatives + Catholics

It all makes so much sense!

lol

Caldari and Gallente don't even come close to taking any political or social philosophy to any extreme. And what is the "logical extreme" of liberalism, anyway?

Gallente are most like the medieval French, using, heavily armed and armored, but slow knights. Caldari are more like the English during the 100 Years War, using, high range longbows. See the history books for the outcome. :P

The Caldari don't really match up to any modern political systems today (closest would probobly be russia).

I far as I can tell the nearest it comes to is the popular idea of Japanese Mega-corps taking over the would - an idea featured in several books & films in the 80's /90's.

There are some capitalist elements to it but the deep involvment of Tradition/Honour/ & cult like loyalty along with fanatical militarisum seperates it.

Gallente: the worst of American "freedom and democracy... even if we have to kill you to give it to you" hypocrisy.

Caldari: hardcore libertarian ultra-capitalist nutcases. Thankfully they don't have a real-world country yet.

Amarr: delusional religious fanatics, all the morality and sanity of a middle-eastern theocracy, but with 200% more Jesus!

Minmatar: terrorists... err... freedom fighters. Every little country who's ended up the pawn of someone else.

I wouldn't say libertarian. Caldari is a bunch of megacorporations that are intertwined with the government and comes with a fierce sense of nationalism.

I'd call Caldari Corporatist before anything else.

Honestly I have to disagree with pretty much every comparison that's been made in this thread about these things. I doubt there are any direct parallels between the warped American definitions of liberal and conservative and the Eve factions. I think the following is about as well as the Eve factions can be summarized:

Gallente: Permissive society that embraces many cultures and ideas. Supports the people who can't support themselves.

Caldari: Rigid society based heavily on honor and discipline, similar perhaps to pre-WWII Japan.

Amarr: A society in self-denial of expression and passion. The emphasis on loyalty to God and monarch does not seem all that much different from medieval European views on hereditary inheritance of authority as ordained by the divine.

Minmatar: While there are comparisons to sub-national political systems that could be made, Minmatar society is more of an amalgamation of general ideas regarding things like freedom and the resistance to iron-fisted authority. There is no actual political system or nation that could serve as a realistic parallel to this, although that really wasn't the point anyway. CCP states in the Art of Eve book that the Minmatar are modeled more off of punk culture and other such subcultures.

gallente federation is a multi-ethnic representative democracy. caldari are a corporate-socialist state. I don't think many real-world comparisons could be made to caldari state because there has never been a corporate-socialist state in real life.

minmatar are a democratic republic, amarr empire is a theocratic monarchy and the jovian protectorate are a matriarchal (women hold leadership positions in society) technocracy.

Actually in one of the Chronicles or news items it said that the Caldari State doesn't really extend welfare to people, and that's why Caldari citizens were migrating to Gallente stations. So corporate-socialist doesn't really apply.
