Has anyone else had 5 mysterious games dumped into their "My games" tab on Steam? I'm downloading Insurgency now, so it seems to be free. |

Same, I had insurgency before but its not that good. Though that was in beta so maybe bugs have been fixed. |

Steam has started supporting free mods: zombie panic, insurgency, etc. Only a matter of time before they support sourceforts! |

I've played Synergy, thats fun if you like HL2 and wanted to play it cooperatively. Doesn't always work out that well though. |

zombie panic is a fun game. But its the kind of fun game you download and then play all night until you pass out, then wake up and decide its not that great and uninstall it. |

Edited by: P''uck on 04/10/2008 16:55:37I always wondered how that works these days: back in ye olde HL1 days, you had to purchase ONE single game that uses the hl1 engine, and could then download all the free mods for that engine. These days, I want to play "the hidden" and that other game with the zombie master (probably "zombie panic" anyway? this RTS/FPS zombie mixture edit: just checked, the thing I'm looking for is actually "Zombie Master"). But yeah, I just checked it out, I have those 5 mods dumped into "my games" thingy too. The only stuff I ever bought for steam is TF2. So, what do I need to be able to play that thing with the hidden and the zombiemaster? Any help would be appreciated. Yes, I could find it out myself with a bit of research, but I'm busy-ish and confident one of you guys knows this stuff offhand anyway. |

I have a friend that only bought TF2 as well, and he's able to play any mod made for the HL2 engine. All you need to do is install the SDK in Steam Tools. (you'll be able to download it if you already have TF2) |

Any game that gives the SDK base gives both the EP1 and Orange Box versions, regardless of the version that the game you bought was using. |

I'm just wondering which of those SDKs I should use to be able to play those mods... I just chose to dl the "Steam SDK" thingy. not the base, not the orange box. /me shrugs. |

Insurgency is a lot of fun. It requires a lot from the team though. A co-ordinated assault in Insurgency is powerful (or can be), but if you run in uncoordinated you're just so much cannonfodder as pretty much every weapon is 1-shot-1-kill. |

I played insurgency ages ago and got quite good. It was great fun, especially since I love iron sights, but a lot of people rely on having cross-hairs, so they'd panic when they see a hostile and spray and pray. It's probably not such a huge deal now what with Cod 4, but it was a huge advantage at the time Teamwork is also so much epic win if you can get it to work. Also, the commander is very useful. Laying down strategic smoke grenades is almost essential in a couple of maps against good opponents. |
