Well its been a long time since any mention of T3 that i can rememebr but i was thinking the other day about how the ships could be designed.
I was lookign at ship fittings and the amount of rig slots available (upto 8)
My idea is that players create there own customized ships via rigging, You start off with a skill like Advanced Frigate/Cruiser/Battleship Construction,
what happens is u go through a process, along the lines of invention which opens up a ship unit with increased Rig slots and Calibration points OR each ship has a secondary set of attrributes for the customization.
What u do is u can apply different rigs and maybe even extra hi/med/low/turert/launcher points to a ship to increase its attributes, so a nice custom fit could be
Raven - Customization points 3000
Additional Launcher bay - 1400 Bay loading accelerator - 150 Shield EM Resists - 50 Shield Therm Resists - 50 Shield Kin Resists - 50
so as u see the additional turets cost way more than a standard rigging other wise we get over powered ships. This can eithe rbe done after the 'invention' type process where u put the ship and rigs in with the job and out comes a ship with no rig slots or calib points but it has all the boosts applied to it in a nice shiny custom ship.

And it's "than", not "then". That was my exit signal. It's also amusing that na.zi is filtered. |

Anyways, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen an idea like this, but it’s a great idea.
Fully open, customizable ships would be great and it would add an element of unpredictability to the game. After all, since Tech lvl3 are the ships of the master pilots, they should be fully customizable.

The thing with fully customizable ships is that they will kick the balance way too much in favour of the people with lots and lots of money. Though customizable ships would be a fun idea the people with lots and lots of money can have a super ship that will kick your ass before you can even hurt it.
Since the current gameplay design states that every ship has it upside and downside customizable ships could end up with ships which have no downsides, this could lead to the point where building ship fits is no longer challenging.
For t3 i personally feel we should stick to t2. |

Customizable ships doesn't mean 'build my ship with a ll the good parts, adn skip all the bad ones'. There is no reason a system couldn't be implemented that would still include the right amount of balance. The biggest hurdle I see to this is the mechanics of it. If it is made as a few ship 'shells' that are tweaked with rig type permanent modifications, that's fine, but right now there are some serious drawbacks to the rigging mechanism (mostly, selling and moving the modified ships). These issues would have to be handled first. |
