This may be a stupid question as I'm not entirely sure how the system works, but
Are some corporations better to work for than others? It is my understanding that each agent works for a particular corporation, and doing missions for that agent raises your standing with that corporation.
Are some corporations more beneficial than others for you to raise your standing for? Do some give better rewards for high standing? Do some corporations have more agents available everywhere and other corporations are difficult to find mission givers for?
Are agents' corporations all CCP run or are there also agents working for player-run corporations?
Should I pick one corp and focus on doing missions for them, or should I spread around and do missions for dozens of corps? |

1) if you want ot mission, I'd focus on one corp
2) Corps have slightly differing LP store items. The faction navies are popular corps to mission for, but as a result of so many people missioning for them the LP store items aren't worth as much as some others.
3) All agents are in NPC corporations

I do want to mission, I think. So I should focus on a corp. How would I go about deciding which corp? What criteria should I use? Is LP rewards the only criterion or are there others too that are useful to consider when deciding on a corp?
I think I would like to work for a fairly pacifistic scientist type corp. Are there any good ones like that? |

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 29/08/2008 04:21:121) This is just my raving, but remember that missioning in EVE isn't really well developed, it's mostly just an income source; make sure you remember not to get so caught up in missioning that you ignore the best parts of EVE. 2) That said, there are lots of criteria. Go here and you can find a list of all the LP store items. The other thing you want to take into account is agents. That is, where they are and what types they are. Different types of agents give different mission types (Find out each type here) so, for example, if you want to do kill missions you'll want corps with a good variety of Command, Internal Security, etc...agents. Also, take into account security status. Hisec missions are riskless, really..Agents in lowsec give greatly increased LP rewards, but you might get attacked by player pirates. The LP rewards wont increase your income by THAT much compared to hisec missions...but then again, if you learn how to survive in lowsec you wont be losing ships often, either, and it's a LOT more exciting. Also, hisec areas with good quality kill agents tend to be very overpopulated -> LAG. LAG sucks, you wont have to deal with this in lowsec...but again, you have to brave the danger. |

"make sure you remember not to get so caught up in missioning that you ignore the best parts of EVE."
Taking into account that I have zero interest in PvP, what would the best parts be other than that? |

PvP is not always equal to running around blasting ****. The best parts of EVE are basically anything done either with friends/corpmates or against other players. |

Which can include missions. Trust me, they're more fun in a group. |

Samy, the main thing when choosing a level 1 agent is to look at the selection of level 4 agents that that NPC corp offers. Also, make sure the NPC corp has at least one station with a medical bay. You will have to run a LOT of missions for this corp in order to earn (a) jump clone standings and (b) access to high level missions. Don't waste a lot of time running missions for a corp that you'll ultimately have to leave. The four faction navies are safe bets, but if you search around you'll find some NPC corps that have even sweeter deals. |

Not all npc corps have cloning as well. Don't waste your time getting to 8 and find out this corp doesn't have facilities for jump clones. |

I know how to check the amount of level 4 agents a corp has, by checking on eve-agents.com.
However I do not know where I can check what LP rewards a corp has, or that thing about jump clones/medical bays you guys mentioned. How do I check those about a corp?
I am interested in Astrosurveying type missions. Are there any good corps for that? |

Someone just answered your question up there about LP items. Look again. Use grismar's Eve Explorer website. It works fully in-game, limited in parts out of game |

Edited by: Samy Merchi on 30/08/2008 00:50:49Whoops, sorry, missed that. Do LP points deduct when you take a reward like money works, or do they accumulate all the time like experience points work? What do I do with the Eve Explorer site? I'm not sure I understand what to do. I also found a good site summarizing the different divisions... http://eve-online.itemdrop.net/eve_db/npccorporations/Is Astral Mining a good corp? I can use the LP Stores Database that was linked to check what the rewards are for each corp, but I don't know what should be considered good rewards and what should be considered bad rewards. There's something called a Megathron Navy Issue and a Vexor Navy Issue and a lot of Hardwiring somethings and things that look like some kind of cyberpunk implants. Are these good LP rewards? |

If you plan to possibly use the character to collect research points to cash in for datacores, I would start with one of the research & development corporations first. By the time you have built up your standings high enough to use all that corporation's research agents, you should also have enough factional standing (and collected enough isk & loot) to switch to (at least?) level 3 agents for the more 'combative' corporations without worrying too much.
Don't forget to train your Social/Connections/Negotiation skills for their big boost to the standings and rewards you receive from missions. |

used in invention R&D.
It really doesn't matter what corp you mission for if you are only in it to get mission ISK.

Yes, that's correct. The agent division within that corporation determines the kind of missions you'll get, for the most part. Any agent can gibve ANY mission, however they do have a percentage of types of missions they give. For example, Security, Command,Internal Security divisions give mostly kill missions, Minimg division is mostly "bring me xxx ore", etc. As you do missions, you get enhanced standings with the agent AND the corp he works for. Every 16th mission of a given level, you get a storyline mission that'll enhance your FACTION standing as well. Skills such as Negotiation can affect both standsing gain and payouts, and the Connections skill gives you a immediate boost with ALL corporations you have a zero or positive standing with. Diplomacy does the same for a corporation you have a negative standsing with...up to a point. Go past -5.0 standing with a corp, and even Diplomacy 5 can't get you any missions for that corp. Go past -5.0 with a FACTION - that faction's NOCs will shoot on sighty anywhere in that faction's space. It'll be a long grind to get faction back, in that case. Quote: Are some corporations more beneficial than others for you to raise your standing for? Do some give better rewards for high standing? Do some corporations have more agents available everywhere and other corporations are difficult to find mission givers for?
In order, maybe, no, depends, and depends. First one depends on what you mean by "beneficial". If kill missions and their associated salvage/loot are "beneficial" to you, then work for Command, Internal Security, Security, and Admininsstration divisions. If they aren't, them work for other divisions that offer more inthe way of courier, trade, mining, or manufacturing missions. All agents on ALL factions draw from the same "pools" of missions, for the most part - the only variables being the enemies you face in kill missions, and where yo have to go to complete any mission.. There ARE some faction-specific missions - those are few and far between. example would be "Technological Secrets" which is Minmatar-specific, and sends you against a Caldari-Amarr alliance. Agent availability varies as well. Quote: Are agents' corporations all CCP run or are there also agents working for player-run corporations?
All NPC that I've seen. Quote: Should I pick one corp and focus on doing missions for them, or should I spread around and do missions for dozens of corps?
Pick one from each faction and focus on it - don't spread yourself too thin. Remember that storylines affect your FACTION standings, both positive and negative. Do a storyline for Caldari, Minmatar will like you a bit less, and so will Gallente. Learn how they interrelate, and you'll be fine. |

Great reply, thanks!
You suggest that I should pick one corp from *each* faction, so four corps? Could you elaborate on why it is important to work for each faction rather than just one?
I'm assuming "faction" means Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar? |
