So I've been reading these MD forums for a while, and been having a go at trading for the last couple of weeks. Trading and moneymaking has always been of interest to me, in both games and real life, reflected by my education and previous achievements in MMOs.
I have however come to realize how incredibly complex the eve economy is, and thou it feels like I'm doing okay, I don't have nearly enough knowledge about the markets to satisfy my goals of accomplishment and success. As a person I'm very fast learning and my strength lies in analyzing and perfectionalism, always looking for oppurtunities and possibilities to get an edge on others.
So here I am, requesting the help of an established and knowledgeable trader willing to take on a humble and dedicated apprentice. I am willing to spend alot of time and thought on this, as I already do, and I won't settle for anything less than (close to) perfectionalism.
If you're willing to take me on, please leave a note here or in my ingame mailbox. If you have any questions I'll answer them as best as I can, and if there's any interest I can do a complete writeup of my current knowledge and experience with trading, marketing, eve etc. in general.
Regards, Icah |

In case you were wondering, I know I would be if I were you, I have read this message and thought you should have some response.
I applaud your post as well however I'm not sure how much I, myself, would be able to teach you. I do hope that someone does take time to be your mentor. In any case feel free to convo me or eve mail and I'll be happy to share with you what little knowledge or time I have.

Can I be honest - and please I most definately do not mean this to sound derogative at all.
Learning how to Trade is pretty easy in Eve. It's also very rewarding and a hell of a lot of fun. I can appreciate why you might want to take a short cut, but in all honesty you will come out a better man (or women as it may be) if you:
1) Read all the stickes (particular my very own post from way back when I first started out) 2) Listen to the advice of MD regulars 3) and don't be too afraid to try and fail
If you we're to go under the wing of one of the regulars then all the more power to you of course - in particular the guy above me would no doubt teach you a lot. But as you already said, you are willing to put the time in - so why not just dive in and learn for yourself?
Cheers! |

I fully and wholly agree with you Astorothe, and I wouldn't dear to make such a request if I hadn't already read most or everything there is to read on the matter and spent a fair amount of time learning all the basics. I do certainly not wish to become a liability for anyone that decides to take me on, and I will do my best to learn what I can on my own.
It is merely my desire to learn and master that makes me look for a mentor, cause I have alot of unanswered questions. I am not expecting to be carried along at all, cause simply making isk is for me more of a measurable indicator of how much I've learned and how well I'm doing, which is what ultimately makes me enjoy this game. Being told exactly what to do without knowing the reasons and mechanics behind it doesn't contribute towards that at all.
I am looking for someone that can give me pointers in the right direction, give in-depth answers and explanations to various questions and help me spot, analyze and improve where there's potential. |

Wait... someone who... read...the stickies?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I commend you, but you have to relies that you are asking someone to help you out by giving you their tips and secrets to success... something that people have worked very hard to gather up and thus in essence giving you part of their profits.
The eve trading business at the moment is very cut throat and pretty competitive. Its no diffrent then all the 0.0 alliances battling it out for control of space, its just theres no kill boards and for the most part the normal everyday eve bulk of eve players go about their own lives not really knowing whats going on.
When in the background deals are stuck, honored, dishonored, and prices are cut. Many things go on in the trading side of eve, that are both agressive and passive.
It is a war, and what your asking is for this person to train another soldier who will sooner or later be working for a cut of their profits..
Honestly, I feel for the most part you will be ignored, with no offense intended, but that is kind of how things go!
Good luck and fly safe |

I appreciate the feedback so far, and understand that most people would probably not be willing to let anyone in on their secrets. But I'm hoping someone would see it as a challenge and a fun experience, and perhaps give them a feel of accomplishement aswell if we succeed.
I have to state yet again thou, I'm not looking to pinch anyones secret trades, and please let me know if you're at all interested :) |

Edited by: Maestro Del''Tirith on 11/08/2008 02:19:52I don't believe I'd be a very good mentor, but I am doing something to rectify the lack of information on trading. You'll know it when you see it later this week |
