To me nothing beats the missile "nerf" for pure drama and emorage. The current one doesn't even come close as far as I'm concerned. Neither does nano.
Who's been here a while and can chime in on the history of Eve's changes/nerfs? Which one was the most overblown and far from game-killing? Keep in mind that just because there are more players and posters now, that doesn't mean it's more dramatic. |

I know the highway removal produced a fair share of tears, it certainly wasn't a high number (like you said because of the population increase). |

Dual MWD Scorpions & Ravens
Torpedo/Missile Nerf
Drone Nerf
Amarr Nerf (InvinciGeddons)
Nano Nerf
Privateer Nerf
Suicide Ganking Nerf
Carrier Nerf (unfulfilled in its entirety)
Thats pretty much what I remember, there were others, and I mixed them all in, I was not trying to be chronological.

Carrier nerf was dang good, lotsa whiners in there.
Although a small change I like the removal of shuttles or something to remove trit cap. ZOMG on market forums and they were all wrong, trit cap was just in another item. Guys, guys trit is going to soar over 10isk/unit and such hilarity. |

Edited by: Lord Fitz on 07/08/2008 05:17:15 Every time there's a nerf to anything people talk doom and gloom, but it's not a few weeks after such a patch and people have already worked out how to deal with it and be just as, if not more, effective than before it.
Carrier hauling nerf was interesting, but in the end jump freighters have made hauling a heap easier not harder, and carriers can haul more fitted ships as well. So now with a jump freighter + carrier you can haul far far more than you used to be able to do with 5 carriers. |

Oh man the quantity of tears if that was still possible, with today's forums community, would beat anything thus far. |

I cant believe I forgot the "POS Nerf" when they doubled the price of the towers... good lord, that alone made me 10 Billion ISK that year, and the whinage was massive.
Oh, and the unfulfilled "Small Tractor Beam BPO" nerf, where some bought millions worth of BPOs and CCP did no increase the price, and then there were tears. |

I know, I liked them, because of their wars there was so much carnage in Empire I was making hand over fist ISK selling ships and modules. Too bad the poor bastards got nuked. |

I think I once saw a compilation of screen captures of the Dev blog and EVE-O forums from back then that showed someone notorious, like I don't know, Ginger Magician (?) - having bought them up in massive amounts, only to discover they had been completely shafted. |

You forgot the tracking nerf and the drone bandwidth nerf; the Drone nerf was different, if you can remember that far back. But, yes, all spelled the end of Eve. |

Either WTZ or the introduction of the market skills that killed off the impossible buy orders.
In both cases people claimed they would ruin the game and drive people away. In both cases they improved the game immensely and in fact opened it up to more people. |

I remember a lot of discussions about it but the forums weren't so vitriolic and full of tards back then. I remember a lot of angst about the MWD/AB changes and that was quite a polite discussion as well. I remember laughing when I discovered that my Bestower went faster with a single AB than it had done with a proper sized MWD and additional smaller AB. Happy days |

Warp to Zero was the apocalypse.
It was the end of EVE.
In fact, I think we're playing EVE in some sort of alternate reality at this very moment since CCP went bankrupt a few years ago after the WTZ nerf. |
