hey since the new expansion is coming out soon, (hopefully within a month or so) i want to get ready for the faction warfare, but it says that to join a miliita, you need to have that factions standings to .5 or higher, how do you do that? is it the security status or what? or doing missions, ratting? how do i increase my faction standings

thanks in advance

Do 16 missions for an agent in X corp that belongs to Y faction. Then you will get a storyline for Y faction that will increase your faction standing.

Missions. Specifically, storyline missions. I haven't done this sort of thing in a while, so my memory is a bit unreliable, but I believe that for every sixteen missions you complete with a specific faction's corporation(s), you are offered a storyline mission by that faction. Complete that storyline missions and your standing with that faction and its friends increases, and your standing with the enemy factions decreases.

Won't doing the tutorial actually give you enough faction?

I doubt it.

However, if they include the connections/diplomacy skills in meeting the requirement for individuals, joining will be simple for all except those who have made an effort to kill their standings.

Is it 16 consecutive missions? Or just 16 missions you have completed for the agent?

You get one storyline mission for every 16 mission of the same level for the same faction.

There is no need for them to be consecutive or for the same agent/corp.

One storyline mission is not likely to provide enough to get you from 0.0 to 0.5. You will problably need to run a few, but it is not very hard to get to 0.5.

A more desperate measure, incidentally, is to simply go to your Empire-of-choice's main enemy and blow up some of their NPC navy ships. They're not very tough atm (although I hear they'll be getting a bit of a beef up in the patch) and it should net you a tasty standings boost for the NPC's opposing faction (as well as a standings drop from the NPC's own faction).

By a similar token, any mission which involves Empire Navy NPCs (instead of pirates) will have the same effects on your standings as above, storyline mission or not.

^^^^^ when you say go to my empire of choices (gallente) main enemy (caldari) and destroy some of their ships, where would i find some of these ships? surely you dont talk about the "Caldari Customs Major" or "Caldari Commander" that appear near like stargates and stations do you? wouldnt i get concorded and/or sentry gunned down doing so?

what i want to know is if doing the FW missions will be an alternative to grinding storyline missions?

well at least for killing ships within missions, you only LOSE standings and do not gain any derived standings from their enemies. but when you do a storyline mission, you both gain and lose derived standings from all ally/enemy factions. for example, running an amarr storyline mission will also raise caldari standings and lower both gallente and minmatar standings.

You never get CONCORDED for blowing up NPCs. Shooting at a Caldari Police ship should only result in more Caldari Police ships trying to kill you, and they're not particularly tough. Certainly not CONCORD standards. The Devs have already mentioned that anyone who gets involved in the FW Militias will find themselves hostile to the rival navies, so it's certainly not going to be that tricky.

I'm reasonably certain that this works, by the by, although I've never actually had to try it myself. I remember it being touted as the get-out clause for anyone who gets themselves in such negative standings with a faction that they're unable to run missions for them anymore, so that no-one is ever COMPLETELY alienated from a faction forever. Will have to go and give it a try on Sisi, though.
