I filed a bug report a while back and today someone in my alliance complained about the same bug. I went back and found my bug report had been "filtered". Does this mean I didn't describe the bug correctly or what? (It was a pretty obscure one tbh, but I included all the details and reproduction steps with examples).

In the end I clicked to edit the bug report and submitted the same thing so it would get looked at again. Is that the right thing to do in this situation or should I have edited it more to make it clearer or just filed a new report?

Can you please provide your Bug Report ID so I can take a look.

When a bug report is filtered, the system will send you an explanation to in what way it was filtered. There are mainly 3 different ways it can go:

- Trashed (very often sent back with a reason for it being trashed and asking for more specific info on something)
- Attached to an existing defect (We are aware of the issue and your bug report has provided us with extra info which has been added to the defect "ticket" in our system)
- Created a defect (The bug has been confirmed being a problem and has been logged in our defect database)

All of the above are variations of your bug report being filtered.

To answer your question, yes if your bug report was trashed asking for more information, try to add as much relevant information you can and edit that into your bug report it. If you think it is better to make a new bug report, do so. There is nothing wrong with filing duplicated bug reports.

Thanks for the advice. Atm, against my bug reports I just get "filtered" "attached to defect" or "fixed" and I can't see a way to get any more info on a filtered report unless I go in and edit it, in which case I might see some comments added in from a bug hunter

Funnily enough, when you try to edit an existing bug report, you end up in a loop (57145), rather than getting notification that your edit was successful

The bug I was initially complaining about 53214 :P

It'd be nice also to have attached comments to bug reports rather than just having someone do comment lines somewhere in the report. That way people can see easily why it was filtered or what was wrong with the bug report

The reason for filtering is only in the mail sent.
This is how I've seen it so far. You can't tell when looking at the bugs.

If you just click on one of your bug reports, you should be able to see notes from a BH without editing the report.

That often happens with websites on eve-o.com, you can fix that by clearing your cache.

Changes to the system are coming soon. However for now any notes from the BH will be preceded by "//"

Thanks for the feedback :)

Oooh, is CCP upgrading to an ingame bug reporting system with client data capture functionality so players don't have to reproduce rare but highly annoying bugs three times?

Current steps :

1) submit bug report. It's filtered, can't reproduce. Oh, try deleting these files.

2) submit bug report with screenshot that shows the bug. It's filtered, CCP wants you to fudge around in the guts of the client now.

3) If the player chooses to fudge around in their client and make their client's performance _extremely_ bad while running the risk of doing something that will end up forcing you to DL the entire client again and start from scratch.

I haven't gotten past stage 3 yet, as I'm no longer doing PVP and it doesn't matter to me ATM if ships don't show up at all on probes, even when they are battleships and industrials less than 100km from me.

PLEASE develop an ingame bug reporting system. I've long since stopped counting the minor bugs that I have refused to report because the current CCP bug reporting system was designed by Og and Mog shortly after Ook invented the wheel.

I would rate the need for an ingame client data capturing bug report system as higher than any other feature implementation, as it would make all future and past (unresolved) bugs easier to gather data on, and implement fixes for.

Ive filed several bug reports that are returned with the subject or automatic response that there was not enough info, however by chance i scroll down and see a comment by the BH saying nothing of the sort.

EG
Automatic response:
Unfortunately, the description in your bugreport was not very clear to us. Could you please file update your bug report with a better description.

Scroll down(not sure if posting these is allowed, delete if not):
//Thank you for your report, I just opened the same page and I actually see 599.5 MB, could you confirm that it still lists over 5GB for you? It might be that this has already been fixed. //

Contradictions ftl? :P
