fighting some friends in other corps is a PITA in EVE. I have to do some silly can flagging which sux when i want to duel at range. It would be nice to have a /duel [players name] command that just sent a request for a duel to that player and if they accept. It simply gives both players a countdown and then agresses them to each other.

This option does not block other people from attacking as well to not exploit people with war decs or people in low sec etc.

Thoughts?

I agree that we need an easier way to 'duel' than can flagging, but IMO a rightclick-offer duel option would seem horribly out of place in EVE for some reason Confused

If it gave mutual kill rights for like an hour or something that'd be fine. Otherwise it's really just saving a couple of seconds over the normal can flip maneuver. I was like so hostile when I entered this thread, figuring it from the title to be another PvP flagging thread like the one Gatekeeper just started. Bonus point for that not being the case.

edit: hey I never thought to ask this before, but once you get flagged does the countdown still expire fifteen minutes after combat commences? The origin of my "for like an hour" comment was to ensure that dueling battleships or CSs or other things that may be able to take more than 15 minutes of beating can complete their duel.

No as long as you are still shooting the other person, the aggro timer keeps at 15 minutes. I have tried to duel Drakes before that ran outta ammo before we broke each others tanks. (both were using Heavies not HAMs)

As long as there is a "Block invites" option I wouldn't see any problem with the idea... It'd be annoying just like chat or gang invites in the middle of a fight if you couldn't disable it.

I kinda like to flag myself to everyone, which sometimes doesn't go well for me, but hey... where's the fun in only looking in someone else's can Very Happy

Sounds like a descent idea. As longs as you still blow up a ship and there's a checkbox in settings to auto-decline duel-requests.

The only thing I can think would be bad about this:

Imagine undocking from Jita 4-4. The immense amount of requests would really suck. So what happens if they put in an auto-reject and you select that option? Well, now you have to listen to smacktalk of 70 some-odd players calling you a pansy (that's the g-rated version) in local. You can imagine how stupid this could get. Not a bad idea though if there was a workable way around it.

Of course, my solution is just to avoid jita like the plague.

Just go to 0.0 and shoot away. No cans needed!

Considering almost any sort of pvp activity (or lack of) will yield this sort of smack it's not really that huge of an issue. Personally I'm not too bothered if it did get put in or not but it would be nice if you wanted to try out pvp in a relatively controlled enviroment and had no corpmates to shoot.

Is it really such a pain for someone to drop 1 piece of ammo into a can? ugh

I have suggestion how to implement it:

Open convo with your target and write F-word.
If he/she F-word back, you may shoot eachoter Smile
Glossary:
- <Beep> you = fight invitation
- <Beep> you too = fight accepted by your opponent
- <Beep> you all = opponent get kill (mutual) rights against your corp members
- Go <Beep> yourself = if you have missiles, you can even shoot/drone yourself.
- I'm <Beep>ed = spawns random race NPCs which starts to shoot your opponents
